Depends what you define as 'number one'. If you mean 'server population' then Virtue seems to have become number one lately.
But if 'number one' is defined in terms of community-based player experience, then Champion is number one. Each server has its strengths and weaknesses; however I assume you meant population.
Ah in terms of server population right. Well in terms of server population there does seem to be a lot less activity on freedom lately so Virtue is the busiest at the moment. Cause of RP I guess.

The #1 Player experience server is based on the players. For some Champions is the #1 server for others it is the worst server due to them encountering some real mean players that ruined their experience. It will be the same for every server. I think the #1 server is my server and it is #1 to me because I have enjoyed my experience there. Now if we are talking about largest population or most roleplayers, then it is easy to define.

OP, Virtue trades punches with Freedom for top load, which can explain why your experienced lag issues. If it's sever please do go to the tech support forum and ask for help; the folks there are very supportive as long as you are willing to give them the info they need. For me, last night I was mapserver'd twice, which rarely happens, and lost some progress on a badge I was working on, so I am not surprised that you had issues. Hopefully today is better!

Virtue did have a higher population last night, at least when i logged in
i didn't have any problems with lag, but 2 people on my team complained about it
i play with them often, and they usually have no problem
also, several people broadcasted that they had lag issues
so, yes, there probably was a problem with virtue last night
Keep in mind that the servers have differing amounts hardware assigned, so getting into the yellow server status means only that the equipment is getting loaded up.

Virtue has been taking the highest load spot at times, although Freedom usually has the highest load. It's just been happening more frequently recently.
Note that if Paragon Studios elect to throw more hardware at Virtue or Freedom, their respective loads may go down, and the yellow dots may go green even though the population remains the same (or increases). This would affect the ranking on the server list.
The only way a player can check the population counts is by logging into each server and then doing a blank search for players. It will show the number of unhidden players at the bottom, and this needs to be done for both factions to get a realistic idea of population versus the server dots.
For what is worth I was on Justice and had SERIOUS lag problems there too...
But Virtue has been number one in server population ever since i17 went online... Guessing all the furries had to update their tails. lol

Virtue's still big. It's Freedom that has gotten small. PvPers migrate to Freedom. Freedom shrinks. Coincidence? Yes.

Thanks for the info guys , it makes perfect sense and thankfully no walls were punched
It sure felt that way last night , not sure if it was a patch being added , high server population or running game in UM , but the lag was so unbearable
I wanted to punch a wall 
due to the fact I could not move or type a complete sentence without it taking a minute to register what I typed 
. BTW , this is not a rant per se just wondering if anyone else on Virtue had this wonderful experience yesterday
