Like, I am SO messed up, brah, I can't even... duuuuude...

Best trip EVER, man...

AlrightI'mdone.

For reasons unknown, my CoH crashed and upon restarting it I was confronted with... that. Restarted again, I got the exact same corruption. Booted up Team Fortress 2, no errors of any kind; played AvP, all graphics are fine; went back to CoH, still corrupted. Tried the test client, still corrupted. Restarted the PC and all is well again.

What could cause this?

(CoH Helper was unable to read my CoH registry information for some reason, running as an admin or not. I can see the registry entries myself, so I have no idea why it is failing. hmm... according to here: http://developer.amd.com/drivers/ccc/Pages/default.aspx

Driver Version: 8.723.5.0 would be one of the Catalyst 10.4 drivers. What I'm uncertain of is whether or not it's 10.4 stable or one of the 10.4 preview drivers.

Can you drop back to Catalyst 10.1?

The driver installation appears to be corrupt from looking at the date. Since the sound card drivers show the date correctly I know it isn't due to being a non-US installation of Windows.

Comparing a game running on a DirectX engine like TF2 to a game running on an OpenGL engine like CoH is non-productive. One of the few things the games engines have in common is that they run on Windows.

EDIT: With CoH Helper being unable to read the registry, I'd suspect some other system problems as well.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

It's 10.4a, which is (oddly) dated after 10.4 WHQL.

I could drop back to 10.1, but as I say, the issue cleared up with a reboot and I don't know what triggered it. I'd be waiting a while.

My temperatures are well in the green. All four cores stay under 45 degrees under load (using CoreTemp, which more accurately reads D0 Q6600s due to a correct maximum temperature value) and my GPU stays under 55 degrees.

I'm not so sure about that imho. CoH Helper is unable to read my CoH registry entry under WinXP, and its also stating that my soundcard driver date is 01/01/0001, and yet under DXDiag it has the correct driver dates for them, and no errors, so I'm not 100% convinced that it is collecting all the data properly.

Things I have done to test if my CoH problems were clientside:

1. Removing the "cryptic" registry folder, so that CoH Updater would re-write a fresh entry - which it did.

2. Uninstalled/installed the soundcard drivers and nVidia drivers (using driver sweeper for gfx card), with the very latest drivers - all successful

3. Checked all other hardware for driver updates (intel chipset, raid controller, BIOS etc etc)

And after the above was done, I still have the same problems:

- Crashing when changing any Ultra Mode setting (unless in safe mode or the default install settings)

- Crashing when opening costume window or after opening the contact list after a certain amount of time in game - I've actually found I can safely open the contacts list & costume window about 3 times in succession, just after entering the game - anymore times, or a combination of them along with the badge window and personal info window, and its an immediate crash.

- Crashing when exiting the game.

- Huge FPS spikes after about an hour or so (/unloadgfx sometimes works, but the spikes kick in pretty quickly again after zoning)

- Screwy graphics, like that of the OPs, after exiting an SG base for the first time - fixes itself if I re-enter and exit a 2nd time.

As a note, most of the crashes result in sound looping, and having to ctrl-alt-del > end process. And on occassions I have to reboot the PC because the sound is still looping (or I disable/enable the device in computer management if I can't be bothered to reboot).

I've not had any issues running graphics heavy games, such as ME1/ME2 and SWTFU, at high resolutions, and have had no sound issues in other games.

Here's the CoH Helper data anyway:

Try uninstalling your video card drivers, running a driver cleaner tool, and re-installing your drivers.

The other games you've mentioned use DirectX and City of Heroes uses OpenGL. The symptons you've described and shown may be due to a problem with your OpenGL drivers which are a part of the video card drivers.

As I said, I did that. Short of reformatting and reinstalling, I'm unsure of what other tests I could do tbh, and I don't really think I need to do that.

I see nothing wrong here. He's just in an older comic book before they invented laser printers and everything was colored with dots.

EDIT: I didn't read your reply completely. Maybe try running some OpenGL tests?
