Merit vs. Normal Farming

I don't consider myself a farmer by an means, but I do usually run around the wall in Cim at least once per play session until my recipe and salvage sacks are full. If I'm bored or in need of extra Inf, I might do more than one run, but that might be once in two weeks that I'd do that. Either way, those runs have been known to clear me in excess of 500mil per run, each of which takes around 30 minutes. To be fair, that's not the norm, but I average probably 3-6 purples a week courtesy of those Romans.
So yeah, regular farming for drops can still make a heck of a lot more than merit farming and rolling for recipes/salvage. The difference is probably more one of luck than anything else though. Many players have never had a purple drop since they were brought into the game, while some others may have my luck of getting several per week.
I'd be of the opinion that it would come down to choosing between luck and the possibility of huge earnings, or going for the certified (but possibly significantly lower) income that merit rolls can bring you.
Oh, and Frost, enjoying the sunshine down there? Nice to see spring finally arrived on the South Coast, hehe.
1 mill/hour is the baseline for soloing with a 50.
Thats for a poor soloer, such as my emp/elec.

1m/hour is what a soloing emp defender built for teaming should make, running normal missions. There was a topic about that, I'm not just pulling this out of my ***.
A more reasonable number for an average farmer, given current market prices, should be somewhere in the 20-40m range, and a good one should manage 100-200m/hour easily. All it takes is purples, and you should get about one purple (~3000 kills) per hour ; although obviously averages are just that, some days you'll get nothing during hours and some days you'll get 4 purps in 2 hours.
one purple (~3000 kills) per hour |
Could be. My own tracking gave me ~1/3000 (6 purples in 19154 kills, or 1/3192.33), and at the time I saw other people talking about 1/3000 so I never bothered to check further, I've got to admit that wasn't very reliable.
Fair enough. Your results may not be the long-term or general average, but its still quite sound. And your results are based on recorded numbers, as opposed to the 1/1500 I'd heard that was given more as conjecture and had no statistics to back it up. So I'd put more credence in the 1/3000 at this point, heh.
TopDoc had pretty good purple stats. Somewhere.

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
There are ways to farm Ouro arcs that give merits for purples.
No need to compromise or choose if you don't want to.
Your average farmer probably clears 1mil/hr and they would be the majority I'd think.

any mouthbreather playing a random crummy AT at level 50 makes that.

My City Was Gone
According to my old Drop Listing & Analysis thread, I got about 1 purple per 1500 mobs. It was 13 purples for about 18,000 mobs. Given Nihilii's 6 purples in 19,000 mobs, you get around 1 per 2000 mobs if you average ours together.
Goodbye and thanks for all the fish.

I have a cold/cold defender who hasn't finished a radio mission in under an hour solo on 0/x1 for months. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new vigilance does for him.
I also have a fire/kin who makes about 20-30m/hour on a good day. That's because I have no idea how to use it properly, the build is capable of much more. Heh.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

Merits for purples? You can't buy purples with merits, nor get them from random merit rolls (the same also applies to tickets). The only way that you can get purples with merits is to buy recipes that someone wants with your merits, then trading those recipes for the purples the other person has. Not very conducive to making Inf if you ask me.

Ah, okay. For some reason my brain train didn't take that fork in the tracks, hehe. My bad XD

One can farm for purples in Ouro arcs that give merits.
I know I am not a farming guru but I know one thing The rare salvage bags you can buy for 10 merits give out things that can sell for 3-8mil. From what I've read normal farmers earn 1mil an hour (excluding rare drops I'm assuming). However you can earn 10 merits in about 20 minutes. Wouldn't it be more cost effective to farm TF/SA/GM and buy the bags to sell?
