i17 Still Beta Condition - Have We Been Shafted?
No, I don't think so. I have been through it all. First I lost my mouse pointer, then my paid version of AVG decided that the new updater was the enemy and refused to allow the game to load, then I could not see what levels of enhancements my test server toon was slotted with so I could replicate the build on live.
And most recently, my toon's powers have reverted back to the original color.
Shafted??? No.
This playerbase pulled together, pooled its knowledge, and helped those of us who are not real computer literate.
Like a lot of you have stated, there is so much these poor devs have to take into consideration. Diffferent Operating Systems, Different Video cards, different Antivirus programs, the list is endless.
And they want the game to work as much as we do. A purring, well running game is job security to them.
My better half, who played beta with no problems, could not log into the game when it went live. He got to the "User Agreement" page, and when he poked accept...his game vanished. POOF!
He contacted NCSoft tech, sent in the report they like to see, not sure what it is called, and he was happily logged in and playing that very same afternoon.
Shafted???? With that kind of Tech support?????
Noooooooo
Actually, I am surprised they did not have us fill out a online questionnaire about what kind of systems we are running ala type of video card, antivirus program, things like that to help them understand what they are programming for....but what do I know
Have a good weekend everyone

Able to play fine, but my gfx went from a 1st gen Xbox 360 game to a 1st gen Playstation 2 game (maybe 1, they're really crappy) because of the intel gpu issues.
Worst issue release ever. |
Heh, while I can relate to the sentiment, let's not go overboard. We may not want to read all these gripes, but then again, no one is *making* us read them, either. The folks who are spewing venom everywhere might be unrealistic and impatient, but they *do* pay to play as well as we do, and I sincerely wish that their gaming experience will be fixed if possible.
I've had no issues since i17 dropped live - other than not being able to trade at WW because it was taken down for repairs.
Honestly, WW was pretty empty on test so it really didn't get put through it's paces - let alone the paces that it would be put through on the live servers - and, yes, I did send petitions/info in regards to this because I thought it wouldn't be getting the traffic that it needed to get for proper testing.
Frankly, as far as WW goes, I thought we might end up losing everything that we had in market slots when i17 went live, so I'm just very happy that that did not happen.
The worst I ever saw it was when the out-of-sync bug went live. That crippled one of my characters on test far before that issue went live and I reported it during beta. It went live and it immediately crippled that character (they were out-of-sync for the game for over 6 months - requiring others to tp them free after every zoning (until the /sync command was released) and sometimes in other circumstances). This didn't just effect that character or just me. It became progressively worse.
This release seems to be a walk-in-the-park compared to that.
(if the forums hadn't been updated and periodically purged, you would have seen me rant quite a bit about that bug until finally it was fixed - first by /sync and then months later by a real fix)
With a huge graphical upgrade it was bound to mean that any players that hadn't updated their graphics drivers for a long time would have issues.
I'm running GeForce FX 5600 and that is hardly state-of-the-art and I was rolling as soon as I logged in to i17 on the live servers.
Apparently, a lot of remodeling went on in Crimorea. If that happened, then sure, depending on where you logged out you could end up in the ground.
I can't tell you how many characters I had that were stuck in the ice the year that the water froze over (I really wish that that would happen at least part of the time every winter though - it was so cool). It was a minor annoyance, but once you are out of it, it is no big deal.
After checking you have the latest drivers for your graphics card (if you aren't running a high-end newer card).
Make sure to verify your files, then shut down your computer, repower up, and then log into the game. A lot of the time that will fix problems.
If not, then log into the game, go into options and tweak your graphics and audio settings, log out, and repeat the steps above.
I'm quite happy with the onward progression of the game. I'm sorry that others have experienced problems that I tried to help fix before release by helping beta test i17 (making chatting on the beta tester channel, /petition, /bug, and posting on the beta forums).
The rough edges will be smoothed over and things will be running as usual soon (tm).

Love this community, love the game, love the devs for the work they do.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
OMG ABSOLUTE WORST ISSUE ROLL OUT EVER! I've been playing since 2006, between CoV release and I7, and I've seen this cry every single issue.

I have been here a long time and never has an issue made the game unplayable for me |
There have been a few responses in this thread I could take issue with but this one, well, "***" comes to mind as a description of the writer.
And if, in the meantime, your game is not playable, find something else to do. In the northern hemisphere where I am, it's spring. The weather is getting warmer. Go outside and let the sun on your skin make you some vitamin D - let the light help you get a better serotonin level in your brain (and a better frame of mind) ... If the game is the only thing that keeps you connected to the outside world, it may be time to get some other connections. Don't let technical problems rule your emotions - it's really not healthy... Breathe.

Mmm, arguing on the internet.
I am sorry but I have to feel like we all have been forced to Beta test i17.
I have been here a long time and never has an issue made the game unplayable for me and never have I seen the sheer number of complaints as this issue has generated. Players are reporting zoning into Cimerora IN THE GROUND. Player logging on report HEARING A TRAIN. (<--- this happened to me) Reports of severe lag, snap back, chat bug (its baaAAccckkk) more than one Auction House bug (it's currently down), graphics glitches (small little flying black squares etc), memory leaks, the game not even launching for some, crashes, crashes and more crashes... We also know there were a whole host of bugs that were known bugs in beta and not fixed at the time of release. |
In all seriousness this Issue hasn't been either the worst (though it is up there) nor the best deployed. Most Issues had stability problems.
Here is a funny observation on the beta process by Scott Adams.
Triumph: White Succubus: 50 Ill/Emp/PF Snow Globe: 50 Ice/FF/Ice Strobe: 50 PB Shi Otomi: 50 Ninja/Ninjistu/GW Stalker My other characters
Progress is the enemy of stability. So it goes.
