WP/Axe 1000% regen build?

The title pretty much says it all, I'm wondering if it's even possible to get this. I know people that have claimed to know others that have them but never known anybody who's had one to prove it...If something like that can't be achieved so be it. I'm just looking for a build that's going to give me -Extreme- survivability while not lacking in damage. I can't name one person that doesn't enjoy taking on massive groups and battling through them, and with a illusion/rad defender as my duo I think it will make for a great team.

I know people like hearing specifics for what I'm looking for so here's some things to keep in mind:

1.) The amount of inf doesn't really matter, I'm just looking for great builds to work towards. If you want to put cheaper builds that would do great! If you're one of those people that enjoy inf cap spending try for the lowest you can go.

2.) Although I like being a true tank, I wouldn't mind being able to dish out some serious damage with Whirling Axe, Cleave, and Pendulum.

3.) Needs taunt/travel power and I'm not a high enough vet to select a travel at lvl 6.

4.) Endurance! I know it's usually not a problem with WP but I know Axe can chew up endurance like locusts hitting a fresh crop.

Well that's about all I can think of, if you have -ANY- idea's they are more than welcome! If you don't want the entire world seeing your build that's totally understandable, but if you are willing to help out a very new WP builder you can PM me and it'd be very appreciated.

P.S. There needs to be a nictus axe/katana/mace/Ninja blade/dual blade/Bow >.>

This is what I've built so far and it's pretty bad...I've got 761% regen but that's only when the +regen procs go off.

Ok, I re-made it, it's at the hitpoint cap (3212) with 789% regen meaning with accolades it's 105.9 hits per sec. 4.73 end per sec was the most I could get without dropping some hits You said in your post that you wanted your damage output up so I tried for that too. Hope this is somewhat helpful

Is regen even the best way to go for -Extreme- survivability? Although I have not built a WP Tanker yet, my inclination would be to emphasize defense slotting and let WP's already great native regen tidy up anything that gets through the defense.

You would be correct, Sailboat. The order I'd rank increasing survivability is:

1) +defense
2) +maxhp
3) +regen

*) Take Tough/Weave (no matter how you focus, I'd recommend this)

The good thing is you shouldn't have issues increasing both 1 and 2 at the same time. If you can push ~40% def and 3000+ maxhp, you'll be very solid. (I sit at 39% s/l, 42% exotics, ~3160 maxhp, and ~650-700% regen with 1 target. I fear very few things.)

It will definitely be expensive, though.

Sarrate's prioritization is the same tack I took on my WP (it's SS, but pretty much the same ballgame). The only really expensive items in the build are the things which will "shore up" a few of WP's "weak" points, like using Kinetic Combats to push the S/L Def. Before cracking the 100M Inf mark, you ought to be able to get up to 40% to Exotics and 25% to S/L, which is still enough to handle just about anything. I'm still only at 32% S/L Def, and during the Maria Jenkins arc, really only Battle Maiden took a chunk out of me.

Don't get me wrong -- building for regen will work, and it has a certain fun value all its own. I don't want people to think defense set bonuses are the only way to build. I was just opining that if the goal is extreme ruggedness in and of itself, defense is a better bet for WP.

This IS prolly the best way to go. At the time i built my WP/BA, i don't think they "fixed" IO's for both "sides" of defence. As in they incressed both damage type and positional defence. So i went for Max'ed HP, High regen, and 70% S/L dmg, and 35% is defence to the exotics. And it works. My attacks all are slotted with Crush Impacts, and slanted for recharge over End rad, and as a result, i have some pretty decent damage for a tank if i do say so myself.

It's a compident build. It's not ubersurvivible, but I can tank nearly anything with it. Prolly wouldn't trust to for a MSTF, but then, I don't like tanking them in the first place. To much pressure. LOL

The way I look at the +Def vs. +HP/+Regen "debate" is like this; would you rather have be teamed with an Emp who rocks the Aura and tosses out Heal Other at the expense of Fortitude, or rather the Emp who does their best to keep Fort on as many people as possible, and backs that up with Heals? The latter is my choice, and that's essentially what a "Defense first" WP Tanker looks and plays like.

EDIT: Not an argument against Sailboat's point, more of an affirmation.

To be honest, sweetcake that is a pretty awesome build. The 30%+ type defense on exotic dmg is pretty nice, the thing that worries me most about WP is that it's not actually great at anything...I mean it's basically taking a stock regen scrap, a stock ice defense tank, and stock...well pretty much any tank can get that kind of resistance against all that except psionics. So would sweetcakes build be something I could run into almost anything and survive? ITF's, rikti raids, and basically any other TF high level activity? It's not that it's a bad build either Sweet it's just I need to know forsure what I'm getting into before I make this dive, and I -REALLY- appreciate you taking time out of your own day to help some random guy like me so please don't think I'm trying to be rude about any of this because I'm sincerely new to building WP and may sound like a know-it-all at one point or another from all the questions and odd ball comparisons >.<

Anywho if anyone else would be willing to take some time and see if they can make a -true- tank of a willpower I'd be more than happy to see it, and if you can't make an actual tank out of it then please let me know I'm fighting a losing battle...I hate getting a toon to 50 then having to delete them because I know it won't do what I want it to. Here's some thing to note as of now for the build:

1.) I liked Sarrate's advice about prioritizing 1-defense, 2-max hp, 3-regen. If anyone would like to build I'd love to see what you can do, as I've attempted type defense builds and failed miserably before I try and stick to positional. Also if you want to switch defense and regen around that'd also be very acceptable. So yeah suggestions, idea's, literally anything you can offer will most likely put a rather large smile on my face (seeing people replied was enough to do it today :P)

2.) Any suggestions/idea's/tips on what sets are best for these are also welcome!

3.) If you truly believe WP was a terrible decision on my part I'd be more than willing to hear you tell me how horrible I am for choosing it followed by your build and explanation on why it works better for Mass Mobs/AV's.

Alright well so far so good! Thanks you to Stormdevil and Kingsnake as well for your help, I know you don't actually have to say anything so the fact you did makes it that much of a nicer thing Also thanks for staying on point!

Edit: I actually had some free time to go through and read other posts today and seen sailboat has a large thread on farming tanks, I should note I'm also going for a farming tank idea. So if you want to switch this over to Shield Defense/Axe I'd be more than willing to re-roll at this point, but if shield can't maintain a good endurance rate then I can't really see me using it. Despite how awesome shield charge sounds >.< I enjoy being able to keep a non-stop pace. The whole idea of this though is to have a something/Axe tank.

I did another build shooting for def, couldn't quite get to the softcap Your attacks won't do as much either. I've never had a farming tank so I can't really comment on it, had a ss/wp brute and 24% defence was enough however I was killing things at a much higher rate than you will be. If it's solely a farmer you want, I would go the scrapper route and roll a elec/sd or fire/sd, anyway, this is what I came up with

There's total shame in popping blues! :P jk I like your build for shield, but then I thought about ITF's...If one hit got through 47% defense you'd be chewed up pretty good. Even with the knockdown mitigation there with shield charge/pendulum I could only imagine what your team would say after watching you get hit once and then shatter causing a team wipe >.> I'm honestly thinking Tanks need a defense/resistance buff..I mean it might sound kind of silly but it seems these days brutes/scrappers outkill tanks badly enough to make you consider even rolling one. This may have something to do with my hours spent on running numbers and not actually seeing them perform in a real situation but I think everyone can agree it's easier to build a scrapper that can kill fast and tank, than it is to build a tank that can kill fast.

Oh well I don't wanna turn this into complain fest 010' so back on subject :P here's what I put together for a sd/axe. 61.7% melee defense, 60.4% ranged defense, 22.4%smash/lethal, and roughly 15% resistance to everything. Baring in mind this isn't a lawnmower build, but it should be able to make a pretty big dent in things while everyone else chews em down. It would probably suck endurance back pretty good, but if I stick to taunting and only using hard hitters I should be alright...The problem is I can't decide if non-stop would be better than hard hits. I know with WP I'd most likely be able to set up a pretty mean attack chain with three stamina's running, but at the same time it doesn't seem to have the safety of shield nor the damage. Tough call so any extra idea's would be nice to hear.

Hey there,

I am not sure whether or not you are still looking for a willpower build or not. But since I am here I thought I would post my build.

The build I will be posting is the same build I run for my Willpower/War Mace
Because of the extremely similar set up between war mace and Battle Axe I didn't have to make any changes.

Now the build does not have anywhere near as much damage output as the builds above. I personally don't have any issues with it. But this build is quite survivable. I have ran just about every high level tf blue side possible. (ITF is only a slight issue but is easily remedied with the mixture of the build's high regen and purples). Base, with one enemy in range on this build your Regen rests at a nice stable 749% but with 10 enemies in range it does a massive jump up to 1189% well over 1000% regen like you wanted.

As for defense Every typed defense is soft capped, Smashing/Lethal Fire/cold and Energy/Negative Energy. Plus on top of that your Smashing/Lethal Resistance is at 65%

Anyway Ill stop talking and show the build: (Oh and I do hope you meant that influence was not a big issue as its not exactly cheap)

Hey Rod thanks for showing the build! I had -absolutely- no idea it was possible to soft cap most of your type defenses on WP... that's good to know. I'll definately be using all the builds posted to make a solid foundation for my own more personal Wp, since I don't really want to carbon copy people but none the less each will have a major impact on how the end product turns out. I'm pretty excited!

With that being said though I've decided to go with SD/Electric, as a tank I like the idea of having two large AoE heavy hitters ( Shield charge, Lightining Rod ) and then being able to taunt until they come back up. This will be my first real tank that I can hopefully use for farming to save enough money to pay for the others...either way though I think I'm going to continue on with my WP/Axe as well, simply because he's a really good tank and fun to play.

Anywho if you have any more builds SD/Elec, SD/Axe, WP/elec, WP/Axe builds or any other builds that you think can outdo these feel free to share! I can guarntee I'll be looking at it

So ran across this post and simply wanted to say, WP/Axe is one of my favorite builds. I have been playing this exact build on Justice since the release of WP. Furthermore, 1000% regen is a possibility, I personally sit around/over 1180% when saturated, reach over 1k @ 7 foes. If you're planning to play as a main tank, I would strongly suggest this as it isn't difficult to keep 7 foes around you let alone keep their attention (ala axe). My def is 20% sm/lth, 35% exotics, I went the tough route so I sit around 70+ sm/lth with a range of 17-22% for my exotics, with tox (25%) and psy 46%. I have run several MoSTFs successfully, too many normal STFs, soloed numerous ITF Hills (that really laggy map), lead tanked plenty of Rikti Raids, and other managed other Tfs. My damage output isn't scathed either as I have a solid attack chain (was able to focus a lil into +dmg and rech also). End isn't issue as I sit over 4.7 with 2 or 3 end procs going off. My build is pretty ridiculously expensive in this economy but it does a wonderful job and back before I was willing to invest in purps and pvps, I still had the 1000% regen, but end wasn't as solid, dmg/rech was on the downside, but I also had a bit higher def so it evened out pretty well.

I would strongly suggest it going towards this set up especially since you said you planned on duoing with a ill/rad. With an ill/rad, mobs should be debuffed meaning they'll be hitting for less damage, while hitting less frequently so this would just help you more so. Another thing people really tend to ignore is how effective axe is as a set. It can deal out some serious damage if used right and has some serious mitigation via all the kb. Also, most teams you'll be playing with, like for TFs, would consist of one form of buff or debuffer. In my experience, I do tend to run with an Emp, usually on STFs. Admittedly, this does help with my lower def (easily throwing me over softcap with a drop of Fort) Even without an Emp at my side, I tank with great success, whether its solo or teaming with my sg running other tfs with no emp (again sometimes with some support toon, usually 1 troller or fender, usually kin, maybe a rad).

And as much as I would like to show off my build, I am afraid I can not. Myself and my SG leader invested a lot of time in the whole min/max process and I have never been comfortable with handing out my "main's" build.

Hi,

A couple of points:

  1. This was a first draft, so consider it that way. Usually any build I intend to fully invest in will go through at least 3-5 drafts.
  2. I didn't look at yours, or any other build for slotting. Instead I just chose what I would choose - leaving out purples. You can add those in if you're interested, but I try to work without them when I suggest builds to people.
  3. I build a lot more Brutes than Tankers, some of my slotting choices will probably reflect that.
  4. I could have probably softcapped to SM/L with some extra squeezing, but I mostly put the build together the way I did to give you some ideas to draw from - rather than an exact build for you to copy and play.

I hope it helps.

If you remove one of the L50 Healing IOs from Fast Healing, and slot it into Taunt for the 6th piece you get 7.5% extra recharge by sacrificing 0.6 hp/s Regen.

opppsss
still had the old mids
would probably put the miracle unique in place of it, put a 3rd piece of numina on health and replace the endmod and endmod/recharge perf shift with the adaptor ones on stamina.

I still think you should get that 6th slot for Taunt.

I'd probably reduce one of the LoTG sets to 3 pieces personally.

I was looking over your build here and decided to do a little work myself. Normally I don't work on Tankers, but this is actually very promising.

Max HP: 3147.018
Regen: 1111%
S/L, Elemental, and Energy DEF: Almost all soft-capped
S/L Resistance: 70.5 each

If you want extra damage at the sacrifice of a travel power, exchange Super Jump for Build Up.
