Petition for a nice idea

It would be a nice idea if, when logging off of a character (rather than exiting the game), we were sent back to the server selection screen rather than having to re-enter our passwords (and wait for the computer to process it) every time we switch characters. If you have a slow computer (or Internet connection, or whatever) and a lot of alts, as I do, this can get obnoxious.

As I recall they are doing that in GR. This has always been a pet peev of mine as well so i am looking forward to this.

It has been suggested before.
I think the main reason is security, so if you leave the computer then none can come to the computer and e.g. delete a character.

By the way, suggestions are supposed to be in the suggestion area further down under 'For fun'.

I've heard a bunch of people saying this as well, but can't find any confirmation. Would you mind linking to the Dev post that confirms it? I'd like to actually see it spelled out so I don't get my hopes up over nothing.

Thanks

You can actually do this currently, simply type "/buycoh" (without the quotes of course) and click yes in the dialogue box. It'll open your web browser to the COH store, simply click back into the game and re-enter your password. It saves the time of logging out.

On my machine it takes about 10 seconds to switch characters that way. It's a huge time saver when you're logging in a bunch of alts to shift them to new day jobs or checking the market on a lot of different characters.

Correct, but as shown in other threads regarding that command, it's unstable for some people. It can cause the client to freeze, and they have to open a new client which defeats the purpose... and on older systems, or those with low memory they can't handle running the extra browser application at the same time. lol

It'll be good to have an official way to do this.

Besides, I think the point is some people don't want to re-enter their password. The 30 second timer is probably still going to apply to switching characters unless you force a re-log either by your method or by opening a second client in the background.

Probably.
Wasn't it officially stated that the 30 second countdown was to prevent people from logging out to avoid defeat?

I'd assume so, yes. The new policy of relogging will most likely still have a timer, but simply let you pick a new toon without "logging off" and having to re-enter our password... so not really any faster than what we have now other than however long it takes you to enter your password.

besides pointing out that the suggestions and ideas section is down a few sections, it is also not a good thing to start petitions on the forums.

We can only speculate that it will come with I17 - but it might not... unless someone has seen something from the devs that specifies that.

It's not part of I17. At least, it's been in no patch notes and no one has found it.

So... GR it is.
