My First 400: It's a Bane

I've been a casual zone PvPer since the Recluse's Victory test event way back when, but I only spend about 10% of my in-game time PvPing and take long breaks where any Rep I accumulated would degrade.

That changed a bit last night when I collected my 400th Rep point on my casual zone build Bane. I decided to actively go after it and this was the result.

Most of the points came solo. For some reason, I just get on bad PuG zone PvP teams more often than not, so about 3/4ths of the points came from just doing my thing on my own. I never turn down a team invite though. That's bad form in zone PvP (though perfectly legit to do if one, ie, stalkers, chooses ).

Banes aren't a top-tier PvPer by any means, but they contribute a lot to a team (I've enabled more kills than I myself have gotten; sometimes to my shagrin, sometimes happily). They are devastating to Defenders and Controllers, a somewhat dangerous annoyance to Blasters, and can break the armor of Tanks and Scrappers to a very satisfying degree.

And in Going Rogue, they along with the other VEATs are only going to be better. Nice.

So if you're on your Hero and you ever see me in zones, remember I'm an easy kill so come get your 5 Rep if your Rep is low along with a chance at a PvP IO. And I hope you do get an IO because IO drops are good for everyone.

Grats!

I did much the same thing a few weeks back on Virtue. Decided to try for the badge and give zone PvP a try on my DM/Regen scrapper, got the 400 after a few days and had a blast.

What was funny was that save for a few childish folks, the people in the PvP zone were more friendly and more helpful than 90% of the people I run into on PvE missions. Even when getting my bootie kicked...which was often... I was having fun.

Granted, I have been chasing badges lately and have been in RV less of late, but I still like to pop in from time to time just for the fun of it.

I too love to play casual builds that take time to perfect and make fun in PvP zones, so congrats man!

Grats!

I was running around in RV today very briefly, and Siren's Call a lot longer than that to collect the 5-hour badge there. I should really spec out for a PvP build so that I can start work on my 400 rep badge, but I've still got the MoITF to collect, and I don't like messing with my main PvE build either.

Had some bad luck with some of the...less civil people over broadcast, but they were easy enough to tune out.

When it comes to broadcast, best to just keep silent. I run my mouth in there on occasion, but usually only after I've come home from a bad day and I really shouldn't be PvPing in that mood anyway.

The casual zoner is a rare and special breed. Only one travel power, only temp phase or no phase at all. Few if any of the build sacrifices of the "pro PvPer". Fun being the driving force over all other factors. No, we won't be winning any ladder matches, but we might on occasion surprise you in zones with what we can do with our "gimp" builds.

I'm not surprised at all when I see those builds doing laps to the hospital.

I heard traps defenders are the best way to hit 400 quickly, is that true?

Nice dude, wish I had the same attitude still, I think I more or less burned myself out spending a whole day just PvPing on my NB/Regen Stalker a while back ago (pre-i13), got 200 rep for the day...then I just stopped lol. All that work for nothing.

The key is to take your sweet time, laugh defeats off (but learn from them! Defeat is a teacher, victory is a short-lived high), and don't spend all day PvPing, and don't PvP at all if you're in a bad mood.

And NB/ is definitely a casual build, so, kudos.
