Best way to get spectral pirate badge?

Hey all, I am finnishing up one of my villain's accolades (born in battle) and it requires a badge for getting ten spectral pirates onto one of those "ghostbuster" pad things (over by Fort Hades in PO). What is the easiest way for a levl 50 to lure these lvl 10 critters onto the pad?

If I aggro them they run for their undead lives, if I use my weakest attack (brawl or the throwing knife) they either die or run for their undead lives. I was thinking of using my second build and getting either provoke or TP Foe but not sure if these will work. Any suggestions?

This is just for the ten count badge, there's also a one hundred count if I remeber correctly. So any tips would be greatly appreciated!

TP Foe and hold or immobilize work. There is also the possibility of flashbacking so you are less of a threat.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

Ok thanks for the ideas there, was also considering grouping with a lower level and having them lead so I can match their level and be less of a threat (goes along with your flashback suggestion).

TY!

i just taunted them, when you taunt them they like to focus on you (got 10 kills on my brute in like 15 min)

Yup. If you have Taunt, or a non-damaging Taunt Aura (like Rise To The Challenge or Against All Odds), you can make 'em follow you to the trap, then Brawl 'em to death. And, if you're lucky, the trap will overload, and spew out more that you can AoE on the spot.

Good luck!!

Luck? I thought it was a set number that fill a trap and make it spawn a few extra Bosses. Am I remembering it wrong? It's been a while.

Edit:
I went out there to check it out this evening, and it seemed that magic number was just over 10 before it overloaded. That's when it spawned 8 more of them for me to kill (4 LT, 3 Boss, 1 Elite). Results may vary.

Also, I couldn't help but notice that if I killed more than one at the exact same time, only ONE of them went into the trap. I still got badge credit for every one that I killed within range, but I'm not sure if the others counted toward filling the trap for the overload.

Then I decided to do some digging and found this page on the Wiki:

Useful strategies and powers
  • Any ranged Taunt power will make the ghosts more willing to stay in the trap's range.
  • Teleport Foe is a good way of bringing ghosts to the traps.
  • High level teams should contain a lower level member to act as bait for the ghosts to aggro upon and not run away.
  • Non-damaging slow patches such as Tar Patch will force the ghosts to stay longer.
  • Each trap will periodically spawn a lot of ghosts after a number have been trapped already (around 12-15 ghosts), including a Red Hand boss or two and the possibility of spawing a Red Terror, which is a Spectral Pirate Elite Boss.
    • It's wise to use one trap until it overloads and then kill the resulting ghosts for easy gain.
Apparently it could be updated to reflect the effect of SSK on a team and the Flashbacking strategy as well.

It wasn't very hard to complete this tonight. Even on a higher level toon, you can agro them with your Origin Power (Taser Dart in my case), then run PAST the trap. They do have ranged powers, so if you stand about the distance of their range away from the trap, they will stop near the trap where you can just 1-shot them dead. Even if that doesn't work for you, they will often come up to you for 1 melee shot as well before running away, so wait at the trap and hit them quick before they run/fly back out of range. The Origin Power was enough even to drag them from the neighboring areas, allowing me to fill the trap over and over again and get quick overloads.

Get your level 50 a Ouro mission arc for level 30,that is low enough so Spectral Pirates will stick around and not run like crazy from you as if you were still 50. They'll all be easy to kill. I've done it several times for that level and its worked very well each time. Defeat as much as you can near the ghost trap so the trap will eventually spit some back out because its too overloaded with them. Team up for it if possible,it should go much faster but if you plan to solo,as most do,it shouldn't take you more then 2-4 nights to get the second badge.

I was on a lowbie who had an easy time gathering up the level 8's that spawned around the fort, bringing them to one trap, and killing them. When I got 10 kills however the trap overloaded and level 15bosess spawned, killing me... but then I thought, hey I have another character who needs this. They didn't run far when my high level character showed up. In theory you could keep killing and overloading at the same trap to get 100.

You don't need 100 anymore for the Pirate badge. Just 10.

Indeed. It works out quite well. After taking care of the 8 that spawn from your first overload, you only need to pull a couple more over to it for another overload. It makes the job much faster.

If you are badge hunting (and not just going after the Born in Battle accolade), you still need 100 for the Spectral badge.

I don't know of those requirements ever changing.

Edit:
I just checked the Wiki article, and the last requirement change for the Pirate badge was way back in August 2006 from 50 to 10. It doesn't look like there were any changes to the Spectral badge.

i dont think those really need to change, it takes like 15 min to get 10 kills then maybe 2 hours (counting for the periods where the ghosts dont spawn) will get 100 kills

Not luck, lucky. I.E., someone was already feeding the traps, and stopped just shy of the overload.

I've have them overload after trapping just one ghost. So, yes, if you're lucky, it'll overload sooner than late. Guess I should have been a little clearer on that...

Yeah. I guess if you are only going for the first badge of defeating 10, it would be quite lucky to hit the overload on the first or second trap. I didn't think of it that way. That would be sweet. lol
