And the Tech Broadsword already looks kinda like a "laser sword" - let alone the Vanguard/Talsorian unlockable blades.
Although, another skin for the Sword sets to be more elemental or lasery would be welcome.

this does seem like an exact clone of something like the broadsword set, but using the dmg that the vanguard use with their melee sets

Did it occur to you how broken this would be? I'm presuming this would be a scrapper powerset. Scrappers can ALREADY solo AVs. This set would make it stupidly easy to do so.
Besides....can you say City of Jedi? I'm guessing George Lucas might have a thing or two to say about this idea, since he has the light saber copyrighted, registered, trademarked, and any other thing you can do to protect an intellectual property. Lawsuits have been won with less, and Lucas WOULD sue.

That would fall under the category of something "substantially similar in the same media" which is one of the criteria to sue for copyright infringement.
A record company recently won an infringement suit based on a 20 second passage of a song, that wasn't even part of the main melodic theme of the song. The song in question is "Down Under" by Men Without Hats. That record company won 60% of the profit from that song, based on less than 10% of the song being somewhat similar to a song they owned the rights to. The kicker? They didn't even own the rights to the song when the song "Down Under" was released, they bought them 12 years later.
Based on that, I'd say there's a good chance George Lucas could sue and win. ESPECIALLY since this game would be considered competition to an upcoming game he owns copyrights for.

Are they called Laser Swords? No, the first image is of a longsword that is on fire. It does not meet the definition of what a laser sword would be, which is a highly advanced device that creates a blade made of pure energy to be used in combat.
And with the Vanguard Sword, it could be said that we already HAVE laser swords. Why would we need another set that is [/i]almost identical[/i] to Broadsword, but brokenly overpowered?
As far as the lawsuit goes, look at the image below:
If you had never heard of Star Wars and knew nothing whatsoever about the franchise or anything in it, what would you call the weapons they are wielding in that picture? Most people would call them laser swords. I myself would call them laser swords. A lightsaber is, pretty much by definition, a laser sword.
In this case, it would be something that is substantially similar to something found in another game of the same genre, that genre being "a multiplayer online game in a science fiction setting". That means that as far as legal proceedings are concerned, the two games would be considered direct competitors.
For one game company to introduce something to their game that is THAT similar to something which is trademarked by a direct competitor is definitely cause for a lawsuit.
It wouldn't be about the money. It would be about giving the competition bad publicity.

I just find it funny you think Lucas would sue on grounds that we're already standing on. WoW is just as easily considered his competition and no, the 1st link isn't a longsword on fire, it's a sword made of energy. While it does happen to burn the foe, then what is the Blade of Wizardry
A sword in-game that looks similar to the blazing lonsword but more whitish and does not burn the enemy (instead it improves the damage of magic when equipped).

Bottom line, they're swords made of energy (of some kind) and are called something other than lightsabers. If Lucas could sue he would have already.
PS: That isn't saying I *want* the suggested set by the OP. It's retardedly OP. But Energy Blade was a set proposed in the past poll. I voted for it. I'm pretty sure it's not impossible due to legal issues.
leo, i think you are taking the whole light...laser...whatever kind of sword thing it is to far. most of what you posted, except for our vangaurd sword, look like elemental swords. they look nothing like George Lucas sabers.
And according to C&E, they don't have to. They just have to appear in principle or resemble the subject matter. And what you say (that it doesn't even look like a lightsaber) is exactly my point. If it looks different and with a different name, how is Lucas going to sue?

Honestly, I think it'd be kewl if the devs did make a few beam swords, not just energy swords but actual beam swords. Lucas might have a trademark upon light sabers, but beam weapons aren't his exclusive domain. Just off the cuff, Zero from Mega Man and all of the various Gundam series have beam swords and are free from Lucas's legal predations.
