If you want PvP, however, you might wanna consider making a PvP toon on another server, like Freedom. PvP is pretty much nonexistent on this server.
Welcome aboard. Protector's a bit of a low-population server, but the people we have here tend to know what they're doing and are easy-going, cool folks.
For build advice, there are few things you can do to REALLY hamstring your character, and even those tend to be deliberate bad decisions (which usually denotes the player is looking for a challenge)... So you can generally feel your way through your character's build as you go, find what works best for you and still wind up being helpful for a team.
As for SGs, I would recommend Teamsters if you don't mind some roleplaying thrown into your gaming. They're very active, have a decent population and are usually up for a good time.

A big help is joing some of the various Global Chat Channels like Jello Shooters, Protector Vigilance, and Protector TF's. Those a good starting points in finding out what's going on and what people are up to.
Definitely announce yourself in those, it's much easier to hook up with people than just relying on Broadcast.

I've also gotten on N P C, which is helpful.RP is just fine, I enjoy RPing villain, havn't really tried with hero yet, not 'in the zone' for a hero mindset yet

Like Gray said, it's kinda hard to muck up a character. But out of curiosity, what are you rolling with as a main right now? You said it was a villain of some type?

I was going to mention the Teamsters, but apparently my job has been done for me, so I'll just say that if you're looking for a supergroup (we are primarily blueside players, although we do have some villains) that likes to add a little roleplay to their butt-kicking, toss me a PM and I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have and get you an invite to the family.

I did find the Wiki, and that helped alot with basic info I needed to play game, and answered a bunch of questions that I had, so it's great! (and kudos to whomever is working on the site!)

Here's a link to the Brute Guides Page. It may not have your exact powerset, but it will give you some ideas and slotting suggestions for your powers.
As well the Archetype and Powers forums are invaluable in getting information and asking questions about your favourite powersets!

you really don't want to use them. The only combo you really need is Attack Vitals(Ablating Strike>Vengeful Slice>Sweeping Strike) Just use Blinding Feint>Attack vitals and you're good. But really just do want you find fun As for /SR it is one of my favoite sets in the game. It is a little slow at first, more for scrapper, but when you get good defense numbers to all 3 defense(Melee, Range, AoE) then it starts to shine. It might not be the best for multiple AVs, but it can still get the job done. And welcome to the Game!!!

I've been playing for about a week and loved the game enough to buy full version. I made all my characters so far on Protector and thought I'd give a shout here.
I prefer to play my (one) villain I've made, but I have a handful of heroes as well (which I do enjoy). I'm looking to meet up and join a group that stays kind of active, as I'll most likely be playing at least a couple hours everyday if I can. I'm interested in missions/PvP/raids or whatever I can do with a team.
There's so much I have to learn (I am very much yet a noob) and so much I want to do.
I'm not interested in powerlevelling up to 50 asap, I am solely here to enjoy the story and the grouping. Most of my characters are pathetic by the few guides I've read online for high-power PCs, and for that I'll apologize now. I pick what interests me for a theme of the character, min-maxing can come later if I need it!
If you can put up with my noobness and have an interest in having a (low level) eager to play person in your SG or just a team, let me know?
If you see me in game, all my characters so far start with the name "Starlight" <something> just because... idk why...
