A few questions about influence selling/getting hacked.
Soupnazi wonders: Yesterday, I got an email advertising an influence selling site, and it brought a few questions to mind: 1) What is NCSoft's position on influence selling? Do they hate it, tolerate it, etc etc? |
2) Do the influence sellers get their influence by hacking accounts? 'Cause this is a problem in WoW and I'm wondering if it is here too. |
3) Other than having a secure password, are there any other ways to help prevent getting hacked? |

Thanks!
You can actually identify an inf farmer in-game pretty easily. Their name will be some combination of gibberish letters ("Gkhygenion" is a random example) with a random costume. They'll probably be a Fire/Kin Controller, or a Fire/Fire Blaster is another combination I've seen. They also tend to travel in packs.
A question I have to ask: would there be any purpose in reporting these people? Technically you have no way of knowing that they're doing anything wrong, but they're pretty obviously working for inf selling companies.

I've often seen them just standing there in Atlas where you get dumped out right after character creation. I don't know how much reporting does. I certainly reported every single one that sent me emails over the last couple of years, but I have no idea how effective it was. I love that you can just turn off email now (I've never seen anyone even use it except for a few SGs that have a reason).

Actually, there IS some account hacking in this game. The devs have made some pretty serious posts about not handing out your passwords or clicking links to possible phishing sites.
The hackers USUALLY send you an out-of-game e-mail and try to get you to click a link and provide your plaync account info. They do this not to get your stuff, but to get access to another account to gold farm with and sell through without having to pay 15 bucks.
If you ever get a suspicious e-mail (bad grammar, anything asking you to verify your account, etc), send that e-mail to customer service so they can investigate. True, these people are probably in China and so we can't do much, but it still gives the team an idea of the severity of the problem.

1. An 8 man team of fire/kins and all of them had gibberish for names, hanging around one of the portals inside portal corp
2. All of them had only one or two badges, and one was the top influence earning badge.
3. They would not respond to tells or local chat.
All of that combined SCREAMS RMT providers/sellers. I report groups like that every time I see em.

If you just don't want to deal with their spammy in-game e-mails, you can set your e-mail options to "friends & supergroup only" in your options menu. You can also set it to not receive any e-mail at all.... personally, I find that a bit too limiting.
If you want to participate in aggressive pest control, you can use the "spam" button in the e-mails. When used enough, the account that the e-mail came from will be banned/deleted. Just be careful not to use the spam button on legit e-mails from friends!

Yes, definitely report. The first time I reported a group of very obvious infl sellers, I got a thank you e-mail. The e-mail also told me to report anymore that I come across. How did I know these people were RMTers?

Yes got the standard email. No they didn't get banned; they were on every day for the next week or so.
Then I got a RMT email which I deleted as spam (IE auto reports). That got them banned.
I'd still report, but I question whether anything is done until they start sending out RMT emails.

I leave my e-mail on just so I can have the pleasure of reporting and banning the RMT'ers who screwed up free trials for everybody.
