DM/???
Do you prefer playing at 50? Will you be exemping alot? Budget build?
If you've been away for quite a while /Inv got a bit of love and is substantially more appealing now. It's got a bit of defense debuff resist, making positional slotting more attractive. The -to hit in DM, coupled with Siphon would make a nice toon.
With DM's AoE dysfunction, you could look at a set like /fire or /ELA for the damage aura, also nice for keeping mobs stuck to you. The primary draw of both is the recovery power though, which DM will give you.
>shrug< Brute secondaries are fairly balanced, although i have a hard time wrapping my head around /DA. Post an idea, maybe a build, see what's good.
***EDIT***
The primary draw of ELA and /FA (for me, on brutes) is the recov. Both sets have plenty to like in them.
My tops picks for being able to hold the fort on teams and still grind thru things on your own would be shield, invuln, and wp. All these benefit a lot from darks melee's 2 best selling points, its -tohit and the self heal.
If you want something less common energy aura and SR are even still solid choices. But these would really be better suited for solo play since they lack taunt auras.
@Injenius~Virtue
Stonefather - 50 Stone/WP/Soul brute
Sable Affliction - Earth/Dark/Fire Dom
Wild Cipher - Beast/Time MM
Could always try /DA, its not that bad... till you get to the last 4 powers that is. Not to mention the Knock back hole, I mean like everything has knock back. Why do they feel they need to force us into the super jumping tree. I prefer Flight, AS rocks.
I have a DM/DA I am really trying to get into, but everything after Dark Regen does not really make sense to me. Cloak of Darkness blows, period. Cloak of Fear and Oppressive Gloom don't make any sense on a brute. How do you build fury when everything is feared or stunned? And Soul Transfer, come on who cares about a self rez?? Is that just NCSoft saying "yeah, this armor set sucks. Your going to die a lot so we thought we would help you out". I mean come on give us something at least useful.
DM/DA is a great concept build but I don't see it being much use other then that. Maybe I am still to low, hear its a late bloomer. Not seeing it though.
My Character looks pretty bad *** though... at least as long as Cloak of Darkness is off.

I'd say DM/Shield, DM/SR, and DM/WP, in that order.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
DM/ELA is a great combination and the best iteration of this pairing for any AT. Electric Armor set to black custom color looks really wicked as well. If you plan to Soft Cap SD or SR, then the ToHit debuffs in DM are basically useless. An optimized DM/ELA build running Darkest Night and using primary attacks receives far more benefit from the ToHit debuffs in this situation-- meaning that the full utility of DM is being leveraged. I also wouldn't play DM without a secondary that offers some form of AoE damage.
Dm/Shield is also a solid choice, but arguably better built as a Scrapper.
Random thought:
DM is like bacon...adding DM to any secondary makes it better.
Really you can't go wrong with any secondaries. It all comes down to what you want to accomplish with the character. Personally I'm a big fan of DM/WP. Have been since the i11 beta. Has Siphon Life to help cover burst damage, -tohit to play off your defense, decent resists and amazing regen. Not to mention plenty of endurance via Quick Recovery, Dark Consumption and Stamina (if you so choose). I've got a scrapper version though, so a brute may vary, but I doubt there's much difference aside from a fury addiction.
Thanks for the replies, I ended up going with shield after I logged onto my corrupter and realized I had forgotten he was rich :P
Heh. a DM/Shield that's IO'd to the gills is a very neat character to see. My friend has one, and she says that she's almost always close to the damage cap. Soul Drain, Against All Odds, and Fury are a nasty combination, especially since she and my Fire/Kin Corrupter team a lot. Her brute one or two-shots everything, except for the huge number of enemies she wipes out at once with Shield Bash.
Honestly, the only reason she likes teaming with my Corr is that I don't mind playing support and letting her go bananas on anything in her way when on missions.
Too many alts to list.
I have a DM/Fire Brute which is pretty damned fun. The damage aura helps to mitigate DMs one weakness (a lack of raw damage) and Consume and healing flames stack well with Siphon Life and Dark Consumption. Getting all these powers up and running turns you into a villainous version of the energizer bunny.
I will second that. I love my DM/FA. Cap S/L get two heals, 2 damage boosts, 2 end recharges. FA compliments DM lack of Aes. toss in Gloom and Dark obilit, your sooo sweet. All the tools are fun. Loved leveling him and playing him at high levels.
Enjoy,
Cipher
Doing a themed toon and I've been away from the game for a while.
Trying to figure out what's good and whats gone. Looking for offensive toon that's decent solo but more for teams.
I've looked at shield and electric, but am kinda stuck...Any suggestions?
