My arc was made to be played at level 50.

2) Assume an 8-man team is playing the mission.
The more the merrier. My arc was made to be more overpowering the more people were on it.

Quote:
2) The enemies must be capable of defeating my teammates with some regularity. Some examples: Rikti and Romans were about perfect. Nemesis a little too frequent at killing teammates. Arachnos and Longbow are probably about right as well.
Custome made Zombies.

Quote:
3) Mezzing must not be a featured aspect of the enemies. A few enemies with Mez are ok. See Romans
Not much mezzing, but expect a ton of debuffing, rezzing and spike damage. Also, half of the baddies in this TF are Masterminds, so a small mob of 5 can easily go up to 20 given half the chance.

Quote:
4) Linear missions. We go in the front. We go towards the back. Then it's over. No open maps where a team may split up or be unsure where to go. No going to the back, getting a hostage, then going back to the front. See the Imperious TF. The cave missions and the occasional non-perfectly straight is just fine.
5 Missions, only one open map (graveyard). The rest of the maps are faily small, save for the last one.

Quote:
5) Bad to the bone encounters. Occasionally have ambushes, surprises, AVs or other interesting and non-standard fights. See the ITF for the right ratio of standard verse special encounters.
Ambushes: Check. AVs: Check. Non Standard encounters: Check.

Quote:
6) Nothing failable. I'll do my own failing, no need for the mission to have its own ways I can fail. However, an ever increasing ambush or defend something after the mission has already succeeded can be great fun. "We've got to hold out and give Moderator 8 as much time as possible to finish his sandwhich. Every minute we can give him helps." That's good. "You died and Moderator 8 lost his sandwhich. You fail." That's bad.
Never heard anyone failing this TF, but there have been alot of quitters due to "difficulty".

Quote:
7) No missions that cause un-fun amounts of lag nor slow down the server.
No more lag than anything currently in-game. (unless of course having1000 zombies coming after will cause your rig to blow up or something).

My arc never got alot of attention cause it doesnt give alot in terms of exp or drops (half the mobs are MMs). But it was meant to be a challenge, and I have witnessed team wipes from overzealous people who werent careful.

Link and info can be found in my sig.

Good luck.

Took me some time Smurfy, but here is one for you to test.
Title: Mythical Invasion
Arc ID: 405080
Lvl range: 30-54
5 Missions with no aiding npc's.
Opponents are, Rikti, various magical units from various groups and custom bosses.

Story is set right when the Rikti invades for the second time. This day will be a little different then the rest of the city of heroes, for they are the right people at the right place at the right time. They will simply have to stop another invasion before it begins.
I'm still a little unsure on the last mission though, but awaiting your comments.

Sweet Dark Embrace - #93711

All custom enemies except for some surprises. There's an intense story, but I'm sure you can enjoy it without reading if you want. I originally self tested this arc when I made it quite a while ago, and used my AV soloing DM/SR to do it. Needless to say, with a full team it was waaay too hard. I toned it down to allow a team to not wipe constantly. If needed I can change it back, but maybe +2/8 will be hard enough (+4/8 might be too hard, not sure with a full team).
I didn't make any serious changes yet, although all custom critters give 95-100% XP now.

Hi Smurphy. I know I promised you Demon posessed Robots but I still haven't sorted that out yet. It is starting to make sense so maybe the arc will see the light of day at some point.

I do have 'The Punk Rock Cybernetic Kitten Rebellion on TeddyBear Mountain' though. Not quite sure if it matches all your criteria but I find it a challenge. And it is fun too.

The Arc # is (let me just go check again, 1 sec) 378442.

While it is only 2 missions it seems like a solid 2. There is a story and kind of a moral. Well maybe not a moral, maybe a bit of soapboxing.

Anyways I hope you enjoy it. Or maybe someone else might try it. That would be fun.

Bashful Banshee

Oh yeah. There are typos, which I'm sorry about. Plan to clean them up when I get back from holidays. It's funny. The very first word is a spelling error. Oh well.

Enjoy your day please.

It's been over two months since I submitted my arc to this and I have not heard a peep. Anyone know what's going on?

Yeah that was a thread I started this morning in the Market Forum since he is well known there. I guess that means the contest is over. Guess I will get to work on converting my contest arc into a normal arc so all that time is not totally wasted.

Would have been nice for him to announce that here so everyone would know to stop waiting.

Well, burnout causes that type of thing. When I submitted my arc for this contest I had to remove a few objectives as well as most of the story. With the I17 size increase, I was able to add it all back in on the test server. I had the arc all done and it just needed a polish pass (or two).

But then I burned out (well, my hard drive burned out and I was not really in a rush to get back in game, a break seemed like a good plan). So while I probably just need an hour or two to edit and publish my arc with a real story, my burn out of two months ago has prevented me from even still getting back to it.

Also, +2 works on dev made task forces again.

I can't speak for anyone else and I do understand burnout, game changes effecting the play value of the arcs. That said, it's a lot to ask of people to:

A) Invest their game time writing a new arc

B) Give up one of their precious arc slots

Now, 20 Billion in prizes, that's worth it imo so I used my last arc slot and spent about 20 hours writing/testing the arc for the contest. I really don't feel that considering everything people put into their contest arcs it was asking too much to at the very least tell people the contest was not going to happen or better yet, award the prize money in some way to the people that invested their time in the contest.

My plans for my contest arc is to move it to my husband's account as is since he has an open slot he has no plans of using and then rework the arc on my account so it's a "normal" soloable arc.

While burnout is very understandable, it does bring up issue of integrity and open communication. Smurphy is one of the few people who could pull this off which is why many authors gave an attempt. While I know I can't solo my own arc I designed it so at least it was a fun romp. The problem with a challenge arc versus a normal one is that you literally can not pay people to play it.

I just wanted to say that I really like the idea of commissioning arc authorship.

I was thinking of doing this with real money, but billions of INF is certainly better (and likely not a breach of the user aggreement).

I just might do the same thing.

This is why I gave up trying t fit his narrow definition of "fun arc" and just did what I wanted to with mine. Still haven't finished it yet though, it needs some revision in the writing. :P

For some odd reason "Psychophage" (#283197) not only has 16 plays but at least one commentator here thinks it's my best work. :-/

If I knew I could adequately judge what @Smurphy would like, I would judge for you all and cover his costs till he came back. Unfortunately, I really don't want to try and judge winners with someone else's infamy and I'm not a huge fan of AE myself.

Smurphy has been very reliable. I'm sure he'll declare a winner when he comes back.
