Over 20 Billion Inf to Commission some Arcs
I'm re-posting this from the RO boards for the "official" contest thread and for anyone else who might be interested:
My arcs might work for what you're doing, although they were made with story in mind and were not designed for this contest.
A brief rundown:
* Arc Title: 7662 - The Labors of Rustam: The Cold and the Dark
* Arc ID: 54293
* Player Faction: Neutral
* Enemy Factions: Circle of Thorns, Snakes, Banished Pantheon, Rularuu, Devouring Earth, "Romans", Hydra, Winter Horde
* Creator Global ID: @Swami Monsoon
* Difficulty Level: Moderate > Hard (Ramps up in later missions, last mission is multi-AV nasty) Stock mobs, custom bosses
* Recommended Team Size: 1-8, Level 45-50
* Typical duration: 1 - 1.5 hours (5-mission arc)
* Arc Synopsis: You've received a message from Mender Mobius. Ouroboros operatives have detected a disturbance in the time stream. The date is approximately 650 B.C. The location is Ancient Persia...
-Emphasis on occult enemies, reason why becomes clear as plot unfolds...
-Obligatory attempt at world conquest but with lots of extra vileness thrown in (even Villains will derive a lot of satisfaction from beating these guys down)
-Hints at even greater Lovecraft/Dr. Strange type horrors...
-NPC hero (guess who) in every mission. Just be aware that NPC AI has been pretty sketchy in MA missions. When he's paying attention, however, he hits like a bus. (Note for Smurphy: I don't know if an NPC ally will cramp your style, but it's pretty easy to ditch him on these missions if you prefer.)
-You may need the help on the last mission. Did I mention the multiple AV's?
-Be sure to read clues/souvenirs/other mission text
-Warning: Contains cave maps. (For spooky atmosphere and because there are few outdoor maps that are not in an obviously modern setting) (Note for Smurphy: ...but they are all pretty linear, except for perhaps the last one.)
-Management is not responsible for harm to CoX canon or Persian culture.
* Arc Title: 7662 - The Labors of Rustam II: Rustam and Sohrab
* Arc ID: 59243
* Player Faction: Neutral
* Enemy Factions: Devouring Earth, Warriors of Turan (custom group: think swords and sorcery)
* Creator Global ID: @Swami Monsoon
* Difficulty Level: Hard. Multiple AV's and EB's.
* Recommended Team Size: 4-8, Level 45-50
* Typical duration: < 1 hour (single mission)
* Arc Synopsis: You've received a message from Mender Mobius. There's been another disturbance in the time stream. The Cold and the Dark are up to new mischief...
-One big outdoor mission (took up 89% of arc memory) (Note for Smurphy: For that reason, this is the one you'd probably most want to skip.)
-Tough but not as nasty as last mish of previous arc
-2 AV's, numerous EB's
-Diverse, fairly tough custom faction
-Your favorite hero is back.
-Ends in a cliffhanger.
* Arc Title: 7662 - The Labors of Rustam III: The Longest Day
* Arc ID: 78130
* Player Faction: Neutral
* Enemy Factions: Circle of Thorns, Banished Pantheon, Rularuu, Devouring Earth, Winter Horde, Undead Column (custom group: think decaying Nazis)
(Note to Smurphy: The Undead Column are nasty. Now fixed so that difficulty ramps up until last mission. Again, the maps are fairly linear.)
* Creator Global ID: @Swami Monsoon
* Difficulty Level: Hard
* Recommended Team Size: 1-8, Level 45-50
* Typical duration: 1 hour (3-mission arc)
* Arc Synopsis: After their efforts to alter the past are foiled, the fiends of the Cold and the Dark strike back in the present. In a daring raid, they attempt to kidnap the world's leading experts on time travel...
-Hectic, crowded missions, each with at least one AV (and the same ally)
-Many of the same foes, now in a modern setting
-Ends with a twist.

After running 7662: The Nemesis Task Force #364346 with you I deleted my submission #388594. I got all the information I needed from that TF.
I am resubmitting an entry.
Arc Title: Robots (Test for Smurphys Challenge)
Arc ID: 390036
Authors global: Smilin Bob
This is now a 5 mission arc. Still not exactly what I wanted but as close as I can get with what is available in AE at this time.
The last mission (if you even decide it is worth playing that far) has multiple AVs only Statesman and Ms. Liberty are needed to complete the mission. You also must find the whiteboard and leave a message for Freedom Corps.
This mission is also with 100% more Mos Vox; after listening to his one consistent complaint that every mission needs More Mos Vox. I listened to his suggestion. No Mos Vox AV just a reference to him in the dialogue.
(I am also posting this on the RO forums)

"7662 - Cathan's Revolt"
Arc ID: 122478
No Avs, I like to maintain solo-ability even if it is difficult and requires some strategy, tactics, patience, or inspirations. Addin AVs eliminates soloing for 95% of the CoH population. I test for solo-ability using a variety of defenders with SO only builds: Cold/Ice, DDD, Sonic/Sonic, Green Machine Emp/Sonic, Traps/Dark and others. (Disclosure: I typically build using an SO Kat/Regen Scrapper or IO Fortunata as they are faster and more durable for the building phase, and if THEY get killed it's almost guaranteed it's too hard.)
I have some bosses that should feel more like Elite Bosses, but since they are only boss level they are still control-able. I didn't wanted to limit high status protection to certain special mobs and end bosses only.
None of the regular bosses should be terribly difficult. All the nastier foes are only LT level. Just do unto others before they do unto you.
There should be approximately 1 to 2 dangerous enemies in each group. They were eating a careless Brute alive last night. If you get sloppy, there should be something hiding in each group to nibble on you. If you play tight, you'll steam-roll them and not even notice.
The last test run went well at +4x8. Killed more tanks than I can count, but everyone appeared to have fun. The biggest complaint was the Soul Transfer stun on the final boss. However, I really can't find another set that does what I want for the end boss.
Smurphy, an announced feature for i17 is the availability of Giant Monsters. Do you want/not want to see these in your arcs?

I am thinking about giving it a shot, though. It would be a good excuse to finally finish an arc, at least.

Cyborg Misunderstandings Lead to Bombs
Arc# 389407 4 missions Sometimes it seems too easy. Sometimes it seems too hard. Is the final encounter in Mission 3 too much? Vanguard are mean at +2 / x8. |
Yes! Yes yes yes. This arc is what I'm talking about.
If you are thinking of submitting an arc to this contest or wondering what I am looking for then you should run this arc. This arc isn't perfect. There are ways it can be improved. There are ways it can be more epic. However, it is on the right track. If this arc doesn't place in the top 5 it would be a glorious day. That means I found 5 arcs even more epic. For now, this arc is clearly on top and winning.
No, the final encounter on mission 3 was not too much We had about 15 or 20 deaths in that final room and zero team wipes. Very fun times. Let me get the actual review stuff...
Score 95 - Cyborg Misunderstandings Lead to Bombs #389407
Enemies spawn as 50s. Cool looking enemies but whites are pretty simple. 52s eventually. Don't like soft frontload. I like the Kabooms (Nemesis exploding minions). Awesome enemy group. Nice ambushers. The malta bosses can be annoying but otherwise pretty awesome. Council in mission 2 are too easy. Family, worse Two AVs and EB in the same room... awesome. and ambushers. Hell yeah. Mixed in some easy packs and hard enemy groups. Well done. Well done. Mission 3 Ambush/Patrol at door. BIG negative. Vanguard are great. 2 Heavies, Hell yeah! Ambushers and more. Yeah! More Heavies! Yeah! That was awesome. Mission 4. Enemy group closer to annoying than hard: Flying bosses. Kinetics. Stone cages. Blind. AV. Ambush. Arachnos. Pretty cool. Ambush should come at a higher % of health. AV died before Ambush fully got to us. Demon AV too. Awesome. Healing Flames on AV annoying. Another AV. Huge piles of ambushers. SOOOOO awesome. I crashed after the AV near the final room went down. Apparently that was the end and I missed nothing. |
41066, Episode I: A Dire Threat
I've read the rules you've listed and I think my two published task forces fit them.
The arc #'s: The Many Faces of Hydro's Heroes TF 41066, Episode I: A Dire Threat 72829, Episode II: Tumultuous Times 210970 Episode III: Alpha and Omega The Many Faces of Hydro's Villains TF 219429, Episode I: The Next Big Thing 224793, Episode II: Minister Of Pain 228570, Episode III: Made in Paragon If this interests you, I'd be happy to get your input and grading on them to see if they fit this play style you're looking for with respect to the contest you're holding. It sounds like yours is a lot like mine - challenging, evenkill, balanced but difficult tending towards enemies being slightly stronger, that sort of a thing. |
#41066 Team with 4 ROrs and some high level friends. Get some people I don't know too. We got a 10MM and a 26 Scrapper. Two Trappers. Freakshow are a little too easy. The ROrs run off a suicide when they know Fallout is up (they don't even have to ask they just know). Don't like scattered map. Enemy packs are spread out. We fight 3 or 4 packs and decide to find the boss. Don't like this mission. The boss was right under the first bridge. We easily defeat a boss pack and leave. Mission 2, Defeat all freaks with rezzers. Small map. Just 1 EB splatted easy. Felt silly to load into something so tiny. Literally took me longer to type this than complete the mission. No deaths and I team TPd the team while they loaded. Mission 3. Family are WAY too easy. AV and EB are nice. Runner AV stinks. We defeat it easily and decide to try some other arcs. |
If you can make the GM encounters fun and interesting they are fine. There's a danger a GM encounter could be like fighting a bag of hit points with no excitement.

Mission 3
Ambush/Patrol at door. BIG negative. Vanguard are great. 2 Heavies, Hell yeah! Ambushers and more. Yeah! More Heavies! Yeah! That was awesome. |
Just to be clear, I have not set anything to ambush the front door on purpose, its just that the vanguard have such high perception. However, after further checking, there is a patrol unit that can spawn near the door and then walk towards it and of course then they see you... sigh. I'll have to remove the patrols, that may solve the problem.
Mission 4. Enemy group closer to annoying than hard: Flying bosses. Kinetics. Stone cages. Blind. AV. Ambush. Arachnos. Pretty cool. Ambush should come at a higher % of health. I like that last room too, I am glad it is the kind of thing you were looking for.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
Mission 1 should now all spawn normally, instead of having lower level enemies in the front of the mission.
Since I removed the Vanguard patrols in mission 3 (which will hopefully prevent NPCs spawn camping the door), I was able to add some Cybiotic patrols to mission 2. Its still not enough IMO, but its should help make the beginning of mission 2 slightly more interesting.
The Silver Mantis ambushers will now spawn at half health instead of one quarter health in mission 4.

easy and not very eventful. Which of those 6 arcs do you consider the most difficult and the most epic? I didn't want to go through them all when I can start from the top and see how that goes.
|
The same goes for the other two hero arcs where they start fairly easy and then ramp up as you progress. The third hero-side arc ("Alpha and Omega"), however, is considerably more difficult with more AV stuff towards the end with the last mission being pretty challenging (if the difficulty is ramped up, that is).
Overall, I would say the villain side TF is a bit more difficult but still follows the same sort of "ramping up" effect. When I designed the arcs, I stuck mainly to story-line theme stuff so it's taking a precedent.
As far as the AV's that run off, that's always been a thorn in my side and I suspect it is for many of the AE designer folks out there. We don't seem to have much control over keeping them stationary even when we program in to be "Melee" over "Ranged" and remove their ranged attacks. I hope it's something the programmers decide to look at more closely because in AE there's not much more that hacks me off than an AV trying to run. It kills that "warrior spirit" thing.
Now introducing for the first arc of April! And it's no April Fool's joke, either.
The Television Strike Force! (Split into two parts; part 1 and part 2. They should be considered a single, cohesive story.)
Do you like AV's? Do you like ambushes? Do you like destroying anyone who would cause harm to Television? Then this is the arc for you. It's tough. Bring seven friends with you. Bring your A game. Television is going to put you to the test.
Names for the arcs exactly and the arc ID's:
The Television Strike Force: Part One - ID: 392091
The Television Strike Force: Part Two - ID: 392092
Enjoy!
@Kalen on Virtue
I'll be busy for the next few weeks and will likely fall further behind my testing. I'll probably be more picky in my testing. If the Task Force doesn't start with something that feels like a Task Force I'll probably stop testing it after the first mission. I want enemies that are difficult but not annoying from the start and missions that are more than Newspapers/Radios. I want it right from the start.
I don't mind being behind in testing. I'll get to the missions eventually and figure out March. Every arc submitted before The Television Strike Force will be considered good for the March 1 Billion. I'll be tossing the Nemesis TF and Cyborg Misunderstandings a billion each. If another arc turns out to be the winner for March I'll toss that arc a billion too. Send me a PM and we'll figure out how to collect your prizes.
I'll try to fraps a run of some TFs soon and get a video posted so people can see how I play on a team.
Still unsure about parts of it but I'll submit:
The End of Saturday Morning
#391934
@Zamuel
I hereby submit
Spread My Legions! (Arc No. 398397)
as my entry.

Okay Smurphy! Like I told you in-game, I've got an arc. KiTTY thinks it's ready for the Smurph-league. I hope you like Rikti, because I've got a whole lot of them. Lots and lots of them. And they mostly want to eat your face because you're going to get right up in theirs and yell NO U. (Hey, you said Rikti kill people at about the right pace, I figured that'd be a good place to start!)
Therefore I give you Shift, aka arc 400487. Run it because the Vanguard needs your help. Run it because you like carnage. Run it because you really want to see your teammates die in horrible ways and then be exploded in a cloud of radiation. Mostly, run it so I have a chance at getting your money. (Yeah, I said it. )
Ambush City, Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Ambush - Arc #1043
Strife of the Grave - Arc #3409
Shift - Arc #529411
Arc ID: 394086
Arc creator: @Capa Devans
Mobs: Arachnos and custom
Team level: The mobs will be 45+
Team size: Suggest 6-8
Difficulty: Team required. EBs, AVs and custom mobs/bosses. Not totally annoying powers but they are there.
Aim of arc: A Task Force like experience
Synopsis: Miss Hero contest goes askew. Some (vague) humour but the arc was designed to be a challenge and not soloable.
I will be continuously tweaking the arc, but I submit it for your kind (or not) consideration. *
May your team mates die horrible deaths.*

Use your doubled space to add 100k worth of ambushers.
The problem with that is that while the doubled space allows us to use more text and customs, the hard cap on the number of ambushes has not changed. Furthermore, we can't trigger two ambushes off of the same event or even two differing objectives if one is an ambush. Combine this with the removal of Ambush placement a while back and our hands are tied (though it is still possible to get the type of arc you want).
Add a mob in close proximity, set it to "3/4 health of Target", the result is a Pseudo Ambush. I'm still contemplating the shear magnitude of evil this can result in.
True, I happily do this in one mission and it probably works better than ambushes in some cases since the ability to set ambush spawn locations was removed and some teams can kill the big bad before the ambush arrives if it doesn't spawn on top of you.
I'd like to make a submission to this.
Sweet Dark Embrace - #93711
All custom enemies except for some surprises. There's an intense story, but I'm sure you can enjoy it without reading if you want. I originally self tested this arc when I made it quite a while ago, and used my AV soloing DM/SR to do it. Needless to say, with a full team it was waaay too hard. I toned it down to allow a team to not wipe constantly. If needed I can change it back, but maybe +2/8 will be hard enough (+4/8 might be too hard, not sure with a full team).
Sadly, the MA experience changes with allies have really put a huge dent in my desire to test missions. I don't want to make some stupid ally rules. Right now, a lot of the arcs just give tiny amounts of experience. I really enjoyed getting people of random levels on the team and getting everyone outrageous experience, while fighting outrageously difficult enemies, and while playing with outrageous tactics. Sadly, that doesn't happen now
I have done a little testing:
Score - 75: 7662 - The Labors of Rustam: The Cold and the Dark #54293
54293 1 CoT + Snakes were fun. Not many annoyying CoTs. AV + ambushers ok. We had lots of various AE bugs. Restarted mission 1 1b Same stuff. fun times. Kinda easy but that's ok. Still dangerous enough 2 Don't like map. Hydra easy. Flying running AV with vines? Annoying. Confuse - thats fun 3 Ralruu, great fun. Romans good too. Random blinky on huge **** map is not fun 4 49s? DE are kinda annotying. Snowmen are a joke. Snowmen were 52, but the bosses no level. Very bleh. 5. Defeat All, snowmen Monster, too easy. People commented the NPC coulda solo'd it Overall it lacked a lot of difficulty and pizazz. Snakes are fun and hit hard but some of the enemy groups, especially snowmen, are ludicrously easy. Weren't a lot of ambushers, multi-pack fights, or epic encounters. |

**********
I got through 4 arcs the other day. I'm going to change up my scoring system. I'm going to score the arcs I can definitely work with and are stuff I can run with a team using my playstyle preferences. Arcs that do not fit the bill I will simply label as "Needs Revision". The revision could be one of many things. Basically, "Needs Revision" means I can't use it regularly as an arc to play with a random group of people and Fallout them and have a boat load of fun. When you think the revisions are done, let me know, and I'll consider it resubmitted, re-eligible for whatever prizes, and put on the slate for testing. Of course, the revisions I want may not be where you think the arc should go nor where the arc should go for the general population.
May Need Revision - Imperial Task Force 2 aka Romulus Rematch #385400
Small enemy packs. Easy. No surprises. AV ambush is cool but was still pretty simple. Obviously, Romans are great but the hostage packs are relatively small compared to +2/x8 spawns. This mission was actually less epic and eventful than the first mission on the actual ITF. In the actual one there are several places where a team will easily aggro lots of packs and then hordes of ambushers and a huge fight atop the hill. This one had lots of small fights and then just an AV
We got hit with "talk to team leader" bug between missions. To be retested. I don't know about this bug. I was the team leader, I started the team. Someone mentioned it pops up when Imperious is the contact.
No arc was listed under that #. I copy/pasted the name and got a bunch of results. I didn't want to figure out which I was supposed to do. I copy/paste the # into the search and run the one that pops up.
Needs Revision - Pentarchy of Punishment #388164
Arachnos. Not eventful for most of first mission. Got the REALLY big room. The arachnos room that's a big square that is massively vertical: huge way down to the bottom with green liquid and ramps in odd directions rising really high with platforms around. AV is fun with ambush. Could be cooler.
Mission 2
Big outdoor and just says "Defeat AV". A lot of the Crey seemed to try to run away: lots of their AI is set to Ranged by default. I don't want to run around fighting Crey. We beat up 2 packs then we send out scouts for AV. We find AV. He's a running AV with Immob protection. Big not fun Chasing him across packs we didn't fight was semi-entertaining but rather annoying. We eventually get immob to stick on him by stacking it. Ambush was semi-entertaining. Did not like big outdoor mission with just 1 AV who's a runner.
Mission 3
Lots of Caltrops. Lots of Force Fielders. Some mez. We couldn't really walk around in all the caltrops. That wasn't fun. It was an ocean of Caltrops on us. We stopped after a few packs. We defeated them. There were 5 of us on +2/x8. It was simply slow and annoying. I really don't like a large portion of the enemies throwing caltrops. The FFs were not a problem but sure looked scary. I didn't see a lot of Deflected on my end and the team seemed to have no issue hitting enemies.
