Patch Dual Pistols

Yeah, you know that pop-up window that appears when you log into the game?
The problem with this is while this works for players that have been around CoX for a time and know where to find info it's not very friendly for new players.

I take it you closed it without reading it?
Sorry, without sending someone to your house to read it to you, I'm not sure what more that they could do.

I've read it I think you misunderstood me.

Here I have an example about information handling; the guide to powers on cityofheroes.com.
Scream
Your Scream can cause serious damage to a target, while weakening his resistance to further damage.
Damage: Moderate (~DoT), Recharge: Moderate
Available at level: 1
'DoT', I know what DoT is but just for a second I will act as a potential new player that want to read up about the game before considering try it out. He/she has never played an MMO before in her/his life. I can't access the forums, I don't know about the wikia.
There's no explanation on what DoT is on that page. No footer or anything. How will I as a new player know what DoT is? My other guess would be that as a european who doesn't speak english as his first language it may or not be clear. But wouldn't it be nice with a explanation right there? And say that I am a european and bad at english shouldn't the language be written so it's easy to understand? While you do not have the same problem with handling long text on the web page as you have in the game why not just call it 'damage over time' to clear out misunderstandings? You can even write it like this in a sentence: "damage over time *(~DoT)" and explain in the game why you can't use dual pistols without a pre order code. Minor complaint but you get my drift. Not user friendly.
It's not about the people who are currently playing the game, it's about the people who are new to the game and to the mmo genre. And that's what I mean with not being user friendly.
Other then that this is a great game with a lot of potential. Work on the presentation and the introduction and it would be even greater.

That's actually a very valid point; while we, the gaming population in general, understand that abbreviation I see where it's a bit... well, cryptic. Of course, the original developers of this game certainly were Cryptic most chances they got. DoT... what's the Department of Transportation have to do with an attack anyway... on second thought never mind.

Abbreviations shouldn't be used in the actual game information without somewhere spelling out just what it means. While we instantly understand AOE for example someone unfamiliar with the term wouldn't have a clue that we're talking about something that affects multiple targets at once.
I also think it's an excellent idea to have a mouse-over popup on the new powersets saying something along the lines of "only available to players with the Going Rogue expansion".

Don't think of it as the devs preventing you from using Dual Pistols until you buy something, think of it as the devs giving you early access to what you bought before it actually comes out.

I'm fairly certain that I saw Kheldians and VEATs in the AT selection list, greyed out, until I finally unlocked them.
Actually, the Kheldians and VEATS don't show at all (grayed out or otherwise) until they are unlocked.
|
And I know if I have one unlocked and not the other than the locked one appears greyed out. (As I have my hero 50 on one account and my villain 50 on the other)
I consider DoT to me standard MMO lingo. Much like AoE, Mez, and Mob. Of course that doesn't help the first time MMO player much.

Where did you find that? I don't see anything that in-depth on the main site.

This also doesn't apply for players in the EU as our updater is still saying that I16 has just been released.
When it works that is....

To vex you.
So the patch added the Dual Pistols but I can't choose them when I'm making a new char? what's the meaning with adding them if i can't use them?

Surely, the devs are making tons of new content that they will never allow us players to partake! They just want to torture us by showing us things we'll never be able to get. That's good business sense, you know! They're going to frolic around in all the new GR content and we'll only be able to look from afar. This will guarantee that we will keep giving them more money!
I know that you guys that have played a lot longer then me (and are a lot greater then me) sits with several links to web pages that hold all of this information. During my short experience I've come to find that information regarding CoX can be quite bothersome to come over and sometimes even very unclear in it's message and usually I end up going to the forums instead cause I know that I will get a better, clearer answer to my question here.
And I really want to say that I love the forums. It's amazing how so many dedicated players help you out. No snarky comments or curses when you ask about something. I'm really glad about that guys! Just saying that as a completely new player that maybe not even have played a MMO before CoX it's troublesome to know where to go to get your hands on information and understand it sometimes.
Though I still hold the same opinion about the choice of including a DP set which you can't use without pre order and not put a guideline in the game, I want to apologize that I was snarky in the beginning of the thread. Kinda had one of those days.
