March Player's Choice: Short Arcs

I was going to do this in honor of February being a short month, but I decided to have a little bit of a buffer between the contests to hopefully not lose too much interest. This month's contest honors the short arcs, with a category for one mission, two missions, and three missions. So bring on the short arcs!

Best Short Arc

  • You may not nominate your own arc.
  • You may nominate one arc for any or all categories - those with one mission, two missions, or three missions.
  • Please do not nominate an arc with: A Dev Choice arc, A Hall of Fame Arc, a previous Player's Choice win.
  • In your nomination, provide the arc ID#, the title, author's Global name, and a short (50 words or less) explanation why you're nominating the arc.
  • You may use your nomination to "second" any previous nomination. This will guarantee the arc's spot in the final voting. Nominations past the second are not needed.
  • Nominations will be accepted until March 19th at 11:59pm EST.
  • Nominations will be narrowed down to five entries, or every nomination with a "second", whichever is larger. This will be done by myself, and at least one other judge - to be named later.
  • Voting will be held in a new thread posted as soon as possible and will be open until April 12th at 11:59pm EST.

Could you maybe link to the previous Player's Choice winners lists so people don't have to go hunting them down to figure out if their nominee is eligible or not?

This is an extremely good choice of category, overlooked by existing processes, and easy to play and vote. Brilliant!

Now I need to go find some good, short arcs. I've only played three recently, which isn't much basis for a vote. Those were all entrants to Dr. Aeon's competition as well. Hopefully Dr. Aeon's awards (and subsequent DC's) will take place before nominations here close.

Arc: 379017: Outbroken See all your old friends in the Outbreak Tutorial sequel!
Arc: Coming Soon: The Incarnate Shadow Shard of Fire and Ice Mender Rednem needs you!
Massively.com opinion poll: Please Help Save CoH!

Excellent. I've been playing through the Dr Aeon Challenge arcs too, so any nominations from me are likely to be crossovers from that.

But great choice IMO.

Eco.

MArcs:

The Echo, Arc ID 1688 (5mish, easy, drama)
The Audition, Arc ID 221240 (6 mish, complex mech, comedy)
Storming Citadel, Arc ID 379488 (lowbie, 1mish, 10-min timed)

That brings up my concern: I'd like to nom MCM's arc "Storming Citadel", but I don't feel right in doing so yet since that contest isn't over yet.

Consider this my nom (nom nom nom) once that is announced however, assuming MCM's arc doesn't win.

I second that nomination for the 1 mission category assuming he does not win.

I guess Fred types faster than me so that makes my second a 3rd.

@Gypsy Rose

In Pursuit of Liberty - 344916
The Vigilante - 395861
Suppression - 374481 - Winner of The American Legion's February 2011 AE Author Contest

I like that "assuming MCMs arc doesn't win"! Cheek!

Isn't Dr Aeon's challenge winner revealed this week sometime?

Let's hope so, The suspense is killing me!

EDIT: wow, thanks for all the noms. That's so nice.

We're supposed to find out who wins tomorrow or so. As for all the nominations you got,
1) I think people tend to only remember things "off the top of their head" they played a week or so ago when this sort of thing pops up.

2) It is however the best single mish arc I have played.

Come on now, 2 nominations guarantees its spot in the finals. Any more than that just robs other good arcs of nominations. Arrow Rose and Dalghryn are welcome to change your nominations. Also, if any arc later becomes a Dev's Choice, you are free to change your nomination, or leave it stand. As it was nominated before becoming a Dev's Choice.

Posted

Okay, then someone else can change theirs. I barely have time to play right now, so I haven't played any other short arcs that are nomination-worthy. I was lucky to play MCM's, and fortunate that I found it good enough to nominate... um... not because MCM hasn't made other nomination-worthy arcs, just that...

Heck with it. My nomination stands at least until I find time to play another short arc.

The SOLUS Foundation - a Liberty and Pinnacle SG

"The Consequences of War" - Arcs # 227331 and 241496

Posted

Hmm, ruling out all the people who have won a Dev Choice, Player Choice or HoF really excludes a lot of possible arcs .... within those rules though:

Becky's Revenge
Arc ID 60197
@New Age Ronin

2 missions long

This arc is just extremely funny and if you play it, you'll become BFFs with Becky and get to teach that stuck up Fusionette a lesson!

@PW - Police Woman (50 AR/dev blaster on Liberty)
TALOS - PW war journal - alternate contact tree using MA story arcs
=VICE= "Give me Liberty, or give me debt!"

Posted

I've been thinking about it for a while, and you're right PW. We're a fairly small community, and I don't want to over-exclude. So I tweaked the rules a little bit to exclude winning arcs, and not authors.

I'd like to nominate

#340316: Drakule vs. The Werewolf Bikers From Hell
by @LaserJesus

because everyone needs to kill more Drakules, even if there aren't that many Drakules left.

61866 - A Series of Unfortunate Kidnappings - More than a coincidence?
2260 - The Burning of Hearts - A green-eyed monster holds the match.
379248 - The Spider Without Fangs - NEW - Some lessons learned (more or less.)

Posted

I'll nominate an oldie but goodie:

#2595, The Extadine Lab
by @Vanden

For a 1 mission arc it accomplishes a whole lot and make very creative use of MA mechanics to play with your mind.

Craft your inventions in AE!!

Play "Crafter's Cafe" - Arc #487283. A 1 mission, NON-COMBAT AE arc with workable invention tables!

I will second this arc!

Here are my nominations for the March 2010 Player's Choice Awards:

1-mission arc category

Jabberwocky
Arc ID 1573
@Rodion

This simple yet elegant take on the Lewis Carroll poem is a mission I play every few months. It's fun, the customs look great, and I always end by reading the entire poem aloud from the clues, relishing the language. *

2-mission category

I'm seconding PWs nomination

Becky's Revenge
Arc ID 60197
@New Age Ronin

I did this short fun arc on my lvl 22 Stalker, and my laughter at Becky's excellent characterization was complimented by a nice sense of achievement at being able to solo the two Heroes that feature. Mission 1 is textbook Elegant Simplicity, and the arc is a delighful introduction to the Becky Trilogy.*

3-mission category

PENGUIN
Arc ID 29205
@Tubbius

I was away for the Player's Choice Awards that featured Best Custom Character, else I would definitely have nominated Waddle for that. The little penguin who "hate snowmens!" is one of the stars of the MA imo, and his inaugural arc is just wonderful.

I fondly remember the sometimes silly, cheesy feelgood christmas Spidey stories of the late 70s. This arc reminds me of those stories in the best kind of way.

Bubba, may i suggest possibly extending the nomination period, if necessary? Finding good short arcs seems a little more difficult than the longer ones.*

GL everyone!

ps. Damn, thats a good screenshot lol

This is going to be tough and easy if this keeps up. I've played all the nominees already,and really like all of them. Will be tough to eliminate if we get many more good ones.

If I understand your rules update, I can nominate an arc from an author with a Player's Choice win as long as the arc itself did not win. If that is the case, I nominate the following:

2-mission category

Death to Disco
Arc ID 84420
@Wrong Number

This arc was really creative and funny. The customs were awesome.

3-mission category

PENGUIN
Arc ID 29205
@Tubbius

I love WADDLE! This is another arc that really made me smile.
