[Unionverse] Capecon 2010
"It is fairly crowded though, so if you want any help or company getting around, I could do that"
|
Terrance was as chipper as ever, his voice having slightly electronic undertones to it, there was so much to do here and certainly not enough time to do everything...he decided to just follow his new friend and try not to make a nuisance of himself.

She didn't need to find a higher vantage point to spot the towering figure of Amy Zon looming over the heads of everyone around her, so she slipped through the crowd and made a beeline for Amy's table. Reaching it, she had a little wait before the fans before her had their keepsakes and it was with a cheery smile she reached the front. "Hey there," she opened with her tail behind her betraying her excitement. "May I have your autograph ma'am?" |
Her agent gave her a nudge and she looked at him with sigh.
"I'm NOT charging for my autograph...I don't care how many times you say it Georgie...there's tons of other things for fans to spend their money on...an autograph should not be one of them..."
She turned back to Portia, "sorry about that...agents...always thinking about their cut of the profits first and common human decency second..."
Portia's ears were quivering with glee at such a noble gesture from Amy, but it did make her wonder if the display was for her benefit; some carefully rehearsed act to make the huge feline seem more down-to-earth before her fans. Portia dismissed her doubts with a flick of her ears and cleared her throat.
"Make it 'To Dr. Carr' if you can please, ma'am," she replied feeling very near star-struck.
She took her autograph book and thin marker from her pocket and offered both out, her shining green eyes taking in every detail of Amy's physique. It may have looked like she was just another adoring fan but inwardly, she was noting muscle tone, proportions, mass distrubution and posture clues, body-language.
An ulterior motive of Portias' being at the convention was to find any felines she'd not interviewed as part of her ongoing study into cat-peoples' origins. Amy Zon was to her a mystery, someone who could unlock more clues to her own ancestry. Hopefully.
Portia realised she was staring and folded her hands patiently in front of her stomach, her smile broadly displaying her partly feline teeth.
Will cursed to himself silently as he fought the press of he crowd. His broad physique, normally a blessing when frightening off would-be muggers and the other less savoury dangers of the city, was effectively pinning him in place as he tried to twist through oncoming people.
For just a moment there, he could have sworn he had seen Statesman going into a photobooth, but had been whisked away before he had a chance for a closer look. So far he hadn't spotted any of the really big names, the con seemed to be focused on celebrating locally famous heroes than international sensations.
Which made a sort of sense, but he couldn't help but feel a little disappointed.
He began thinking idly to himself as he was pushed to one stall then another
"I wonder if I'll see any of those guys here...my sister didn't mention anything about the Foundry attending, but then, she probably wouldn't notice if they did."
He reflexively dodged to avoid running headfirst into a dashing kid, and was jostled back and forth within the crowd for his troubles
"She's too serious all the time...I should have just dragged her down here. She just doesn't get that this is part of being a hero too.
He smiled to himself
"She'd never admit it, but I bet theres a few autographs she wouldn't mind having either..."
Then, through the body of the crowd, he saw them - Starjet and Irradiant, chatting animatedly beside a booth. Mustering up his enthusiasm, he put his shoulder to the crowd, and began slowly making a path fror himself
He was a little surprised at his readiness to approach the celebrated heroes, especially after his hesitation contacting metaConnect just the week before...
He had come -this- close to not making that call, too. So no more hesitations...
With this in mind, he ducked confidently under the papier-mache wings blocking his view...and ran face-first into a crowd of Phalanx cosplayers being chased by some guys waving badly faked laser swords.
"So, this is capecon, huh?"
He couldn't help but laugh

"Make it 'To Dr. Carr' if you can please, ma'am," she replied feeling very near star-struck.
Portia realised she was staring and folded her hands patiently in front of her stomach, her smile broadly displaying her partly feline teeth. |
She smiled and signed the autograph book, 'To Dr. Carr, don't let their preconceptions about our kind ever get you down, stay strong and continue the good work, hugs and kisses Amy Zon.'
Amy was 'built' different to most catgirls, Amy was built more akin to a big cat such as a lion or tiger than the slim cheetha like build of most catgirls, toned but not overly muscular. She smiled as she handed the autograph book back, "there we go Doctor, as the note says, keep up the good work..."
It was nice to see another real catgirl in this place, not just someone with fake ears and a tail.
This was a calculated risk.
Ordinarily, when walking the streets of Paragon, 'Joanna Ferro' would be carrying a small array of fuzzers, diffusers, and countermeasures designed to intercept unwelcome attention. Stepping into a room with this many heroes and this much coverage, however, would have rendered all of that not just useless, but possibly a liability. No, this time she was just going to have to rely on good, old-fashioned brazen courage and a little bit of makeup. Truth be told, this way was almost more exciting. Risky, but exciting.
Ambling merrily along, Jo scanned the program pamphlets in her freebiebag, making a general line for the Vigil stands, first of all. Just another of the crowd of happy hero fans come to take part in the festivities. Reaching the UV stands, she grinned. "Did I miss anything good?"
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

"Thank you so so much for this ma'am," she said. "And I know this is kindof cheeky of me to ask, but if your agent would let you, could I ask for maybe an hour of your time another day to talk to you about yourself? It's for a project of mine about felis origins."
Her tail took on a question-mark shape of expectancy as she waited for the bigger feline's answer, one ear doplaring round to aknowledge the presence of the waiting line of metafans.
Annette grinned down at Jo. "Shadowe making an ENTRANCE and Bodi doing her best cyber-psycho routine. Apart from that, it's been fairly quiet." She paused and looked at the hordes before her. "For a given value of quiet."

Her grin could get no wider as she read the message and she fought her gleeful snigger down. She had maybe another minute and she was aware of the queue behind her, so she dived in with her pitch.

Amy swiped one of Georgies business cards from his pocket much to his annoyance and scribbed down her cell phone number.
"There we go, I'm free most of the time, tomorrow perhaps?"
Several metafans looked on with wide eyed envy at the catgirl infront of them...she probably had no idea how many of them would want Amy's number.
"I object to the term 'cyber-psycho', Nitoichi." BODICIA said with a huff. "But yes, it was essentially that." Ducking down under one of the counters, BODICIA filled a Unity Vigil Swag bag with some goodies for Joanna. Satisfied that it was loaded to the brim with goods, the gynoid got back up and held it out towards Joanna. "Cables of red and case LEDs of blue, your specifications are outstanding, so this gift is for you." She spoke just below the noise of the crowd, mostly only audible to Ni and Joanna.
Joanna took the swagbag with a grin. "Thanks, I foresee a good haul today. Wasn't planning to turn up originally, but the amount of fun to be had persuaded me. Plus, I find outstanding specifications quite fascinating too." Stowing her swag, she looked around at the crowds, hero fans and heroes alike. "I should do this sort of thing more often, seems there are some overlooked perks. A girl could get to like the relaxed nature of it all."
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Plus, you have to admit Richie, that the Travolta dance move look -does- suit you.
|
Nevertheless, Richie shrugged and turned to the crowd ahead with his usual moronic grin.
"Right, let's get crackin', shall we?"
Sam: "My mind is a swirling miasma of scintillating thoughts and turgid ideas."
Max: "Me too."
Stuff
"I can let Ni out and we can be psychos together," Annette said, and then winced at the mental kick she got. "Or not. Somehow I think a display of fancy sword work in a confined space might be counter-productive."
She looked down at the grinning young man in front of her holding up an autograph book. The look of co-mingled lust and admiration was almost too much. "Don't I remember you from the Wizard's Well? I'm sure I've signed this before. Nevermind, hand it over."

Catching the conversation around her she smiles over at BODI and Annette "I don't think anyone's going to object to a sword fight as such, but it'd have to be while hopping from shoulder to shoulder and I think that might be breaking some health and safety rules"
Amy grinned widely, "of course...though I am a genetically engineered cat person as opposed to those that are born this way naturally so I fear you may be disappointed in that regard but I shall go more into my origins whenever you wish to set a date..."

"Thanks. Tomorrow's not very good for me as I'm preparing for a surgery in the evening, but the day after and for the rest of the week I'm not busy, or there's next week."
Portia held her autograph book tight in her left hand as she offered her right. "I look forwards to talking to you." she said in closing.

|
She looked over the shoulder of Portia and had completely forgotten about the queue building behind her.
"Oooh sorry hun probably going to have to part ways here...they look like they're getting rowdy..."
Portia shook, followed Amy's glance and stepped out of line. There were a few impatient mutters and snide remarks from the other fans as she gave Amy a cheery wave and left. One or two zitfarmers followed her with their leers and sneers, and she saw one girl give her a flirtacious wink which would have been flattering had it been from someone a hundred pounds lighter.
With a shudder and her ears flat against her head Portia fell into the throng and left Amy to her fans, thankful she'd not eaten recently.
"Oh I wouldn't want to be a bother, you're probably busy trying to get autographs of your own...I mean if you're going to a heroes booth then sure I'll come with you, this place is huge...I wouldn't know where to start!"
Terrance was as chipper as ever, his voice having slightly electronic undertones to it, there was so much to do here and certainly not enough time to do everything...he decided to just follow his new friend and try not to make a nuisance of himself. |
Shifting her hands into the back pockets of her comfortable cargo trousers she glanced around the convention hall, hazel eyes scanning the bright costumes and tables adorned with action figures, DVDs and comics. "Do you have a favourite hero you really want to see? I can accompany you get their autograph, maybe get one of my own if it's someone I'm a fan of" She rattled off. Talking to a toaster wasn't overly strange to her, the notion of hunting out autographs of people she'd possibly have to fight in the field one day however did sit oddly with her.

Without waiting for a response, she blinked out of existance, reappearing beside Will. "Hey you!" She greeted him easily, her tail flicking eagerly from side to side, showing her happiness at being at the convention and bumping into both him and Starjet. Her smile however faded a little and she gave a small squeak of surprise as she was almost hit in the head by a pair of 'wings' crafted mostly of cardboard and tinfoil.
Her face splitting into a dazzling grin she nudged Starjet "I'll be right back, we can chat about power displays in a sec" She promised.
Without waiting for a response, she blinked out of existance, reappearing beside Will. |
With a bemused shake of her head, she continues 'patroling' the hall, smiling, posing and chatting to the attendees.
OMG! How like, totally kewl are these characters?!1

"Hey!"
Over her shoulder, he saw the guys with laser swords coming around for another pass, this time with what seemed to be two people in gorilla suits in tow. He momentarily reached down to grab her arm, thought better of it, and instead nodded over to where she and Starjet had been standing moments before.
"We should get out of this, it's madness!"
Glancing back at her, he started to push into the river of people flowing around their island of costume hazards.

"Oh no, I'm kind of a fan of all of them, I was just going to follow you to see where you went, I'll try not to 'geek out' if we someone really famous like Statesman or Back Alley Brawler..."
Terrance let out what can only be described as a cross between a chuckle and a schoolgirl giggle. |
Slowly she gave an amicable shrug before nodding in the direction of The Militia's stand "Shall we start over in that direction? It looks like there are a few heroes you could ask for autographs over there"

"Oh right, some people don't like the blinking out of existance thing. I can get us over there in an eyeblink if you want.." she offered brightly as she glanced up at him "But we can do the pushing through people if teleporting makes you queasy, I've had so many people almost throw up on me because of unwanted shiftings, it's never fun!"

"You can do that? With other people, I mean?"
He glanced down and gave a brief grin
"It's too awesome not to try. I promise not to throw up over anything important"
He tightened his grip slightly and braced himself.

((Apologies for tardiness, illness and all that...))
Stygian Minx circulated through the crowds, blending in seamlessly with all of the other tattooed and pierced goths and geeks. She was having a whale of a time, collecting autographs and chatting up the famous and the semi-famous. She'd already buzzed the Militia's stand, just long enough to annoy Amber by calling her 'Fusewire' all of the time and flirting with her dad enough to make the giant blush as badly as his daughter. Now she was chatting to one of the stall owners who appeared to be selling knock-off versions of other team's action figures. She picked up one and pressed the talk button only for it to speak back to her in Spanish.
"You know many Spanish heroes in Paragon wideload?" she asked of the stall owner who wasn't impressed with her discovery.
"The kids still buy them," replied the owner.
"Fair 'nuff," she replied. "This whole convention's fake anyway. Enough geeks and fanbois to float a starship. What burns my tootsies though is the lack of attention to detail. I mean, get that guy." She pointed to a man in the crowd who'd come with a fake chainsaw attached to his left arm.
"I mean, come on! It's his right hand he cut off, not his left. Sheesh! And what about that bunch of Shocktroopers. They've got their Overlord with them but good giddy gumdrops where's his Overlord Guard? The guys in red with the big poiky sticks and the helmets that look like marital aids?"
The stall owner wasn't sure how to reply but he watched the troop of Shocktroopers as they headed towards the stage. In fact, they seemed pretty determined to get there, some of the troopers even pushing people out of the way to get to where an interview with a comic book artist was taking place on stage. The Overlord moved with speed, as if he had something on his mind. When they approached the security surrounding the main stage, it was obvious that their presence was not expected...

From the realtive shadows of one of the halls pillars, Wolf glared at the stage and the apparently unexpected Shocktrooper mob.
Maybe they were just fans who wanted to throw a surprise song and dance routine. Maybe they were just slightly over-eager, and had got too much into character.
And maybe Hro'Dtohz would sit down for tea and cookies with Lady Grey this Sunday...As likely as hell freezing over. Speaking of freezing...
Wolf flexed his right arm, the large gauntlet humming faintly into life as a coating of frost covered it. His rifle, bereft of ammo, was still slung over his back. But his power armour was still alive and kicking and, if push came to shove, that was just what he was gonna do.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Richard nodded silently in greeting to Steven. "Well, it seems that I've forgotten to bring along my autograph book, so for the time being I'm going to have to forego the pleasure."
Still slowly looking around, he smiled beneath his helmet. "And since I know that Marie and Melissa want to have a look around, I think it would be only fair to let them go and..."
He hadn't even finished speaking before the two women dashed away with a wave and matching grins.
Shrugging, a gesture that seemed out of place on the power-armoured figure that he was, he turned back to the gathering.
"And besides, I don't want to queue-jump, so I'll let the worthy citizens who got here before me go first."
As he spoke, it was all he could do to restrain himself from hurling a bolt of energy at the figure behind BODICIA, but he knew that the attractive gynoid was more than capable of dealing with such behaviour on her own, so he merely watched, half his attention on her, the other half keeping trying to keep track of the multitude of people moving around nearby.
With a quiet sigh, he gave up. This wasn't a combat theatre, and he had no need to assess threats, no matter how instinctive it was while wearing the suit, and there were just too damn many people around.
When Annette stepped away to change into her own costume, he spent an idle moment or two watching the smooth way she moved, before wrenching his attention back to Steven.
"Don't know if you saw, but Luminescence is around, somewhere. Probably still outside dazzling her adoring fans. I expect she'll come in soon, though."
