I play a scrapper because...
...nothing else quite fits my ADHD squirrel on meth playstyle.
...doing things you're not supposed to be able to is fun.

I no longer separate scrappers and brutes.
I play them because I enjoy my meditation time.

Howdy.
Be well, people of CoH.
I agree with #3, Primal_Dark. Granted, I don't have a ton of experience in the game, but every time I compare my mid 20s scrapper(s) with any of the blasters I have made, I always have to go play my scrapper.
I just don't feel like the damage I do as a blaster is enough to justify the overall squishiness that I feel my blasters suffer from! I'd much rather kill things slightly slower while coming out of the fight with 95% health and 90% endurance than 30% health and 30% endurance.
Plus...I love critting...I came from an end game raiding Hunter in WoW where I had 65-75% chance to crit while fully raid buffed, so I enjoy being able to pop a crit every now and then on my scrappers!
My first toon was a fire/energy blaster back in 2004. I enjoyed him until the late game then started trying out other AT's after I got tired of being mezzed all the time. When IO's came out I was able to softcap my blaster to ranged damage, but still felt that the lack of mez protection just wasn't worth the effort. Now I have a fire/shield/blaze scrapper that has fireball and fire blast, best of both worlds. With shield charge thrown in, it's just the total package of awesome.

Because my bids for my Blaster's missing IOs aren't filled yet.
I'm sorry but what is an AT? And what are these other AT you speak of?
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.

...Because, yeah, that's right. I'm better than you, and I can prove it.
...Because while that might be your boomstick, this is my beating stick. And mine's bigger.
..Follow Up + Spin + Crit is the definition of awesome.
..I no longer know the word death.
..Having a Melee attack chain and a Ranged attack chain is pretty cool.
..IOs.
..If I get bored with a team I can just run off the other way and still hold my ground.
..And, last but not least, spamming I Am Scrapper! during the ITF Rommy Nictification scene.

Because waiting sucks.
1. Waiting to find a team sucks.
2. Waiting for the team to assemble sucks.
3. Waiting for the tank to attack first sucks.
4. Waiting for the tank to gather aggro sucks.
5. Waiting for mez/sleep/hold to wear off sucks.
Waiting sucks. I wanna attack now! Scrapper can do.
my lil RWZ Challenge vid
.. I love running up and getting face to face with them and taking out as many of them as I can before I go down.
Hitting bad guys = fun
I also like hearing the lamentations of their women. (or, for you purists out there: de lamentations of dere vimmin)
* I like the feel of running in and putting the hurt on.
* I like having mez protection AND damage. I'd love to like blasters, but I won't play them due to lack of mezz protection. I'll do corruptors and defenders, but not blasters. So to me, a scrapper is a Blaster that makes sense (mez protection).
* I love defense sets thanks to softcapping. Scrappers are the best AT for me when pursuing a softcapped build. Damage AND survivability. Rock on! Tankers dont always satisfy for damage, and for Brutes well, I hate chasing the Fury bar.
* I like smacking a dude in the face! Then again! Then aga ... oh, he's dead. Super Sweet!

Because I like looking at death face to face until he decides to walk away!
No responsibilities.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
