Our own Tailor Shop please!
Given that you can save costumes as .costume files, there is no reason you can't do this already:
1. Make the costume and save it.
2. Sign up for some kind of free web hosting. It's everywhere, and you don't even need a lot of space since .costume files are so small.
3. Upload your .costume files to this web space for people to grab. Don't forget screencaps, so people know what they're getting.
All the downloader would need to do is place the downloaded .costume files into the correct folder in their City of Heroes directory, then they could load it up just like a costume they'd saved themselves previously. Heck, if you're really tech-savvy, you could even package them as self-extracting .exe files, so the downloader wouldn't even have to know where to put them.
I know, this doesn't include the "paying for the costumes" that your idea involved, but since it's already possible to do for free, nobody will pay anyway.

sounds great and all until a virus get put into the costume codes online and a player downloads them. not a good idea at all. just sayin...
mmm this sounds about as original as picking one of the pre set costumes already made in the game. Maybe it's just me but I love making costumes and don't think I would ever pick from a selection of costumes some random person made no matter who they are.
A couple of things:
* I'm not sure what the 'access rights' to another persons 'Costume Files' would do vis a vis storage on the Server DB. Being able to access one part of another person's Character Storage on the Database may leave a gaping hole for Exploits/Hacks/Etc. Thus I am not sure it is effectively possible; SCR applies.
* It may not work at all in the same manner that one cannot Load a Costume from another Locally Stored Costume (on the same PC) from another Account if it uses any Costume Part that is a special unlock (ie: Valkyrie Pack, Badge, etc.). So not usable there.
* Storage of All Costumes in a separate DB might make it possible, but is the resource use desirable enough for Dev implementation? Dunno.
* Do we really need to 'clone' Costumes all over the place? In the case of an 'SG Costume': yes. Otherwise: meh, I dunno. Individual creativity has always been the hallmark of the CC in CoX.
Personally, I have always enjoyed making my own creations for the individual character, and wouldnt find much use for this, but to each there own I guess. I think this may fail in the Usefulness to Effectiveness to Glitch of a Suggestion ratio, but implement-atbility is in the hands of the Devs; further deponent saith not.
It might be just as easy to ask for someone to send you an email of their Locally Saved Costume File for a particular toon, but that has its drawbacks too. Or perhaps host a website of Costume Design Files (from your own HD) as a 'Haute Hero Couture' designer; Donna Karan watch out.
((Darn! Beaten to the punch repeatedly already. I gotta type faster.))

I think it would be cool if players could create their own tailor shops with complete costume suggestions for other players to peruse and quickly upload to their own accounts.
In order to see these "shops and their inventory" other players would have to pay a small influence/infamy fee to gain access. Players who like what they see can then "purchase" the costume for another small influence/infamy fee that immediately uploads it to their own account memory for use in the costume creator. These shops could either be exclusive to Super Group/Coalition members or server wide depending on the shop owners choice. No new buildings would have to be made. Just make it a new selection in the Icon/facemaker to peruse server shops that are available. Now obviously people could forgo the fee to upload the costume to their own accounts by taking screen shots or "two boxing" but I feel that general player laziness plus the small entrance fee should go far to maintain the fun for the shop owner to keep making more costumes. |

It would be neat to at least have a tailor shop available as a base room.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking: A tailor in the base. That's what I really want.
