Remember Going Rogue? That's right, how could you forget? Well, you have the opportunity to get access to the Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning power sets in March and April, if you pre purchase City of Heroes Going Rogue (MSRP $29.99 USD)! You will also be able to get your hands on an exclusive item pack if you get the City of Heroes Going Rogue: Complete Collection (MSRP $39.99 USD), that will be available when Going Rogue releases in July!
Okay, now color me a bit confused.

If we want DP and DS early, we prepay the $30. But then if we want the goodies pack we'd have to plunk down another $40?

Or will the costumes and powers be available in a $10 add-on pack?

Or would it be possible to pre-purchase for the $40 Complete Collection?

I'm not hurting for money or anything, just the cheap bastich in me quails a bit at paying $40 for $10 worth of extras.

Now am I completely wrong here, missing something, *BLEEP!*ed in the head?

I'll try to find the post, but I remember reading that you can pre-order the complete pack, and get both the goodie pack, and access to DS/DP early.

I thought this was the case also. Either way, I'd also guess the item pack would be sold separately as well, so it's not like we'd lose out on anything.

On a side note, the item pack doesn't look too exciting anyway... unless the temp power gets modified before release. We'll see.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what good a stealth power is if it doesn't allow you to move.

When the hell is it going to be used? When you're just standing around no place near an enemy?

Pretty sure BT's got it right. The Collector's Edition is called the COMPLETE COLLECTION for a reason--it'll have Going Rogue and all the extras in one package.

Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges

If you want DP and DS early, you prepay. Period.

If you want the basic GR, you buy the basic GR.

If you want the CE GR, you buy the CE GR.

You can pre-purchase either. Thus far, we don't know anything about a $10 goodie upgrade for costume stuff. Why anyone would want to spend $10 on the costumes of GR and not anything else relating to GR is beyond me.

Also, yes, the PlayNC store will probably break the day this goes up for sale. So don't be a rear-end-in-a-top-hat and press BUY 45 times, then complain that you bought GR 45 times.

Actually, today's announcement states that, from NCSoft, you can only pre-order the basic, online-only, expansion. This gives the early access, but no "goodie pack" or play time. 30US$.

The 40US$ has the 30 days play time, the pack, and is a full copy of the game as well, but is not available for pre-order from NCSoft, therefore no early access to Dual Pistols or Demon Summoning.

Also, the pack is two costume sets, related auras, that presence power, and four "stance" emotes - nothing said they were particularly praetorian themed.

In other words, I'd have to buy BOTH to get early access to powers AND the goodies.

Meh.

Actually, it looks like there will be an item pack upgrade available as well to those who pre-purchased.

No, you wont have to by both for a total price of $70. You can buy the pre-order, then buy the upgrade when it becomes available... but you wont get any free game time (which you wouldn't get even if you waited and bought the standard retail anyway).

The standard retail does not come with any game time regardless if you buy it early or wait. Only the Complete edition retail comes with the extra game time, and wont be available through the item pack upgrade.

Starting at launch in July, players who prepurchased or bought just the separate City of Heroes Going Rogue expansion will be able to upgrade to the Complete Collection. The upgrade will include the Complete Collection Item Pack, but it won’t include any game time.

Note that this means you are paying more by pre-ordering the normal expansion and then buying the item pack, since neither one comes with a $15 value free month.

$30 Expansion
$10 Item Pack (assumed price, going off previous item pack prices)
$15 month
= $55 (pre-orderable)

$40 Complete Edition
free item pack
free month
= $40 (not pre-orderable)

They are looking to seriously cash in on the inflated prices for pre-ordering. It's kind of disgusting.

I agree. It sounds to me like they are saying..

Pick one:
30 days of game time
-or-
Early access to powers as they become available.

Question is.. which one is worth more to you? lol

Personally Dual Pistols doesn't hold much intrest for me, don't get me wrong they did a great job on it but it's not something I want for any of my characters anytime soon. Demon summoning I'm very interested in at the moment.

The thing is that since my friends mostly play blue side I'm not all THAT interested in it until I can bring a MM over to play with them.

So it's waiting for the CC and the goodies and month of play time for me!

Dunno why you would be disgusted other than being pricked in the Economics Conscience. Of course, the price differential is probably why...

Which in any business model would be a tough call. What price early adoption? That is up to the individual. If one wants some of the goodies early (and we estimate the earliness at 5 months); then the price to have access to that which is not ingame yet and using your numbers crunching is $3 per month. Drop the Mocha Vente-ccino one day a month, and you're gold, Angel. Besides, the caloric reduction is always welcome to any health conscious being of the galaxy.

Again, "what price early adoption?" It is not disgusting; it is an equitable trade-off.

I don't see this as unfair, you are paying 15 dollars for early access to the powers and that seems reasonable to me.

Please for the love of all that's unholy let them put it on Steam too.

Of course a smidgeon of JavaScript would also prevent ***-top-hattery...

This is so incredibly condescending.

Actually not meant to be condescending, but since the Seattle-based coffee house gained such popularity it has become a standard to throw value in terms of probably the most axiomatic price point: caffeinated dairy drinks. So what about the rest of my comment?

either way, time to back off the fem attitude a tad. Life is too short to be bent out of shape over little things.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.

Don't care about the "Angel" part - "Aggelakis" is based on the Greek for Angel.

:SIGH: O fer cryin' out loud. Agge knows I think the world of them (or I hope so... nothing but respect in general). I just meant that spreading the price over the time allotted equates to about 3 bucks. 3 bucks is around about the price of a cuppa joe from Starbucks (actually that would be a cheap cup of coffee there); so drop one cup a month (if one drinks coffee at that overly popular for the product java joint) and voila: it's a wash economically. Dont see it as condescending.

The add on about calorie intake wasnt meant as a jab at Agge. Far as I know she (I think she said she was a she once) is a supermodel with a PhD and wicked gaming skills until someone proves definitively she is not. And then I will not believe it. But even the most svelte among us could live without the high calorie dairy drinks from SB. Plus the cholesterol. Oye!

But mayhaps Agge's "disgusting" comment from what I saw as a purely good and equitable business model for the reasons I attempted to explain got under my skin. If so I apologize, but stick to my guns as to my opinion on the subject of this thread as I see it. I am all for raising the Jolly Roger when the corporate scalawags attempt to keelhaul their customers, but I dont see that as the case in this instance.

PAX!
