Ooooh... GR Goodies & Rampant Speculation!

So, I was rereading the GR Info here and noted this:

Quote:
Well, a few nifty things like:
• Alpha- and Omega-themed auras
• Alpha and Omega themed costumed sets
• Four stance emotes
• The Shadowy Presence invisibility power
Naturally, my highly-caffeinated mind freaked out and I fell out of my chair. I ran quickly over to our favorite website of all time, ParagonWiki and did a quick search for Omega Team. There, I read the following:

Quote:
The Omega Team was one of two teams formed to fight the Rikti War in a daring plan known as the Alpha and Omega Gambit, devised by Dr. Science. The team consisted of a mixture of 50 heroes and villains, mainly magicians and people wielding artifacts, led by Hero 1. While Statesman's Alpha Team launched a frontal assault on the Rikti invaders, the Omega Team waited while invisible until the portal to the Rikti homeworld was clear. Once it was, the team ran through to close the portal to Earth once and for all from the other side. After a tremendous explosion, the portal was shut down, but at the cost of the presumed total loss of all but one member of the Omega Team.
I suspect a connection!!!

Well lets start making unfounded speculations.

Alpha team was composed of magic users.

Omega team had Statesman, anyone know who else.

Will the Alpha auras and costume magic themed, yet totally different then the style of the magic booster pack?

I'm curious about the stance emotes. Is this four new Ninja Runs? If I can run on all fours I will flip out with joy.

Omega Team was Hero1's. It's just an assumption that you should automatically make, the Brits get the cooler name for their team.

And yes, this is rampant speculation, but it could of course suggest that we ware getting the costumes for the Alpha and Omega team members. But that would be pushing it a bit. Regardless, I seriously doubt these are going to be booster-oriented.

As for the stances..........I desire so much for them to have given us some less ridiculous stances to actually fight in. I'm tired of my Mastermind having to shake his hands about like a moron as he sways from side to side just because he spat poison in someone's face. And, I desire so much for one of the stances being a walk that you can fight in. Oh, and the ability to make that walk faster.

Bad Voodoo by @Beyond Reach. Arc ID #373659. Level 20-24. Mr. Bocor has fallen victim to a group of hooded vigilantes who have been plaguing Port Oakes, interfering with illegal operations and pacifying villain's powers. He demands that revenge is taken on these miscreants and his powers are returned! You look like just the villain for the job. Challenging.

As far as rampant speculation goes, I suspect that with the content expansion, we're looking at time travel missions back to the initial Rikti Invasions. That would be when the Alpha and Omega Teams were around. Most likely, you'd be part of a taskforce or other story arc that would unlock the costume options. These would be tied to Hero 1's doomed mission to the Rikti homeworld.

In Issue 17? I doubt it. I think we're most likely going to face off against our Praetorian counterpart in some shape or form (Dark Mirror). They could do both, but somehow with GR coming up I don't think they have the time.

While the OP is correct in his/her research, I'm more of the opinion that the Alpha/Omega stuff just refers to "ultimate" costume options. Because it sounds important.

In any case, we should have pre-order by the end of the month, so they'll be marketing it to us soon and we'll have a good idea of what they look like/are.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

I don't think the costume pieces are going to be available prior to GR. From the aforementioned press release:

You've got that backwards. Hero 1's team of Magic users was the Omega team.

Statesman and everyone else was the Alpha team.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I hope that the Alpha and Omega stuff finally give us more Tech and Magic oriented auras. I could use both kinds badly.

Praetoria isn't a mirror universe - it's an alternative universe

If you are making two teams, and one is supposed to be a secret team, why would you name the first team "Alpha Team."

Doesn't that imply at least one more team? Wouldn't any competent enemy commander be saying "Okay, there's Alpha. Now, where is Beta, Gamma, and/or Omega?"

True, but a lot of the features are intended as a mirror of the prime universe. Dark Mirror does sound as if it will have something to do with Preatoria

Yes in a standard military convention that would make sense. But in CoH it's a reference to the more classical meaning Alpha and Omega so whiel it might sound silly from a military standpoint for the superhero genre it makes perfect sense.

That's possible - but the reference to a "new and nefarious foe" we'll be facing doesn't really sound like Praetorian versions of us - first, the Paretorians aren't new, and second, they're not really nefarious - they rule an entire world.

Fair point, although if they go with some sort of Praetorian doppleganger that would probably constitute new and nefarious.

If NCNC decide the praetorian counterparts to my characters in any way at all, I can say with absolute certainty that I'd be angry. A doppelganer who changes based on who it's fighting would please me enough, but if I get told that I'm to fight the Praetorian Storm Survivor, I'd get pretty mad.

Similar to that Archnemesis idea that Posi explained where we would collect 'clues', fight the archnemesis, and then once they were in the zig another would come along. That'd bug me pretty bad too. I'd prefer a system similar to our own character creation system. Except they'd appear in and around.

I'm looking forward to the Alpha and Omega auras too, but I'm looking forward more to the stance emotes. If this is what I think it is, then it would add that little bit more diversity to my characters, which I always love. Really love.

Could the "Dark Mirror" acutally be a duplicate of our heroes created by Nemesis to provoke trouble in Praetoria? Didn't he send duplicates of our dimension's heroes to start the Rikti war?

This of course assumes that there was some sort of announcement to the Rikti that the attacking force was dubbed "Alpha Team." Given the expository nature of a lot of comic book dialogue, though, it's possible... Still, would the Rikti comprehend the implication?

Rikti Commander: Observation: "Alpha Team." Query: Meaning of "Alpha?"

Rikti Lieutenant: Conjecture: Name of Leader of Team? Name of Geographic Location?

Rikti Soldier: Observation: "Alpha Bits Cereal." Hypothesis: Possible connection?

Rikti Commander: Directive: Procure a thesaurus.

I dunno... I doubt I would understand the significance of Team B'Nadek or Hro'Dtohz or Wun coming back the other way.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

Well your Praetorian counterpart is new, you haven't met before. And I'm not really sure what your definition of nefarious is. It has absolutely nothing to do with ruling a world.

Nah, I doubt it would be Nemesis. If it was people might start hatchet-murdering Devs for over-using a plot device. Besides, the Praetorians have already got enough reason to invade us already. Our world is run by villains, you entered Praetoria first, yada yada.
