The idea in the works is for a partial draft. The partial draft would allow for a league to still be competitive, since team's aren't completely random.

a draft works perfectly fine. Teams are not random at all as most people find out in picking, the captains pick who they know at first. Ajax was 4th in line and was so worried that someone would pick fulc before he got him. It turned out the other three captains had other people in mind anyway and he got his pick. The goal of a league is not to be competitive, that is what the ladder is for. The goal for the league first and foremost was to get new people interested in arena pvp and to have fun.

The ladder was for competitive pvp the league was for fun. The league always became not fun when people got too competitive. Complaints about rules, pst's about cheating and etc..that's why we are adamant about the everyone plays rule.

how do you decide who is completely noob, average and good in this draft.. from past experience ppl rather rely on "oh i know this guy" than on actual skills/build from the player

not to point anyone out but that was the reason you had to sign up with global and register up to three toons. Lists were distributed to captains so after we got through the "obvious" first second and third round (and fourth etc) it boiled down to a bunch of people no one knew (with the odd OMG how did I miss him or her mixed in). Basically if your looking at @JonQplayer and he registered AR/DEV Blaster, DM Fire Brute, Ill/emp troller - you know you at least are getting a player with an emp probably more zone pvp experience..etc - Having captains of all levels of skill helped too, there were people others knew who would say "I know him from victory, he's pretty good..etc"

but like i said it was supposed to be more fun than barn burner VR vs Velocity fights...I know for a fact some of the newer people even offered to pretend not to be there so their team could win and the vets said "no way" you showed up you play. That was the spirit of the league. If anyone wants to rebuild pvp and a new ladder I would say start with a league first. Get enough people to know who the vets are, what is viable in team arena and have fun, then you can get to the level of ladder pvp fights.

^^^^^^This....

To be honest the above statement is why I suggested something like the League be rekindled. Players were given an opportunity to get a firsthand feel for how competitive ladder teams worked. Complete with practices(to include basice strategies @JoeQPlayer never even knew were common pvp practice).Add counterlineups etc etc etc. Things that@JoeQ would never put in the equasion in a pvp environment were put into practice.Experience in a solid team environment is a great way to learn the ropes.

The League of the past wasn't the place for killer competitiveness and epeen flashes. Although toward the end there were some pretty hairy, hella fun matches. Some fun rivalries too!!A draft League like the original( yea that quote in the topic header is is my post) is to revisit the spirit of comraderie in that first League and hopefully recruit some new pvp players to the fun that can be had rather than leave the bully on the playground attitude that seems to pervade most of the populace and turn them off to even trying.

There are alot of great people in the pvp communitee. Share that . Be open to running a team with a few newies.Look at it as a fun time and also seperating wheat from chafe. The good ones will stick around and those that dont get it will go on their way( but hopefully with a more positive outlook and better understanding of current pvp). Either way its a 'win win". More blood for the competitive ladder soon( the wheat) and more people promoting pvp rather than trashing it(the chafe).

Edited to add: Educated chafe in zones will also enhance that play for everyone.

One more thing. I am no pvp Goddess. I have, however, witnessed first hand the highpoints of pvp(yay!) and it's devolution (argh ;(!!!!)in this game over the years. We have what we have now . Let's make the best of whats left and put our feet forward.

I still had the IPvPL season 2 word document I made forever ago. I made a couple of quick changes; it may not be entirely relevant now, but if any of it can be useful in some way, here it is:

Quote:
Overview:

The Infinity Player versus Player League (IPvPL) is a league of teams that compete against one another in an arena setting throughout a season of play. Playoffs occur at the end of the season in order to decide the league’s champion. Captains are picked from willing volunteers, and these captains select teammates in the form of a draft. The number of teams and players are determined by sign-up numbers and a majority consensus. The number of season matches will be determined this way as well.

The Draft:

In order to have an accurate draft, we must have everyone that is willing to participate sign-up here (or have a friend sign them up). Captains will pick in a random order for the first round. (Captains will vote for either picking in random order again, reverse order, or the same order.) I will post the draft results here on the boards.

Substitutions:

Depending on sign-ups and how the captains feel, we may have a substitute pool, additional players on teams that are available each match as subs, or both. Regardless, no drafted players will be allowed to substitute for another team during the course of the season or playoffs. If a drafted player drops out, it will be up to his/her team to decide whether or not they will allow him/her back onto the team.

Rules of Play:

1. Matches must start within 15 minutes of the scheduled time. If a team is short on players (after any allowed substitutes enter) at the 15-minute mark, they must either forfeit or fight. There are no exceptions to this rule, because it is unfair and inconsiderate to the players that have arrived on time.

2. Matches will consist of 10-minute rounds. A team wins a match by winning 2 rounds of a match. (The sudden death tie-breaker will be ignored; like many of the dev PvP changes, it was a horrible, ill-conceived idea anyway.)

3. No more than 4 rounds will be played for a match. Typically, this means best 2 out of 3, but ties are possible if a team has a win, a loss, and two ties after 4 rounds of play. A match win is awarded to a team that wins a single round if the other 3 rounds are ties.

4. Only arena store-bought (tier-1) inspirations are allowed.

5. If a player is caught with anything but tier-1 inspirations, his or her team will forfeit the match.

6. During each round, 1 player from each team must say in broadcast “all in” before teams engage.

7. If the “all in” isn’t given by both teams by the 9:30 mark, the short-handed team may call for a reset; however, only one reset can be requested for each round of play. If both teams are short, the reset doesn’t count against either team. After a team has used its one reset for a round and is short-handed, it will be forced to fight handicapped, as the match must start by 9:30 remaining.

8. Teams having players that disconnect for any reason after each “all in” will just be down each player that does so for the remainder of that round. There is no way to make this 100% fair, as losing players can “pull the plug” at will. A reset can only occur if both teams are in undisputed agreement.

9. If a player engages the opposing team before the “all in” from each team is given, that round is forfeited to the opposing team.

10. Results of matches must be reported to me by captains from each team, and I will be posting those results (only wins/losses/ties) here on the boards.

Code of Conduct:

I don’t think we should really need to say anything here, but I’m going to anyway. This league is for everyone from novice to vet. It is a competitive league, but bad sportsmanship should not be tolerated. There is no reason for anyone to be disrespectful. There will most likely be relatively new-to-PvP players participating, and the last thing I think we should want is for these players to feel unwelcomed by either their teammates or their opponents. By signing up for this league, you are agreeing to not only abide by the decided rules, but also to abstain from questionable behavior. Any complaints about behavior should be addressed here on the boards. The league members will reserve the right to vote any player out of the league. A vote will be held on the boards to do this if at least 2 league members call for the vote.

Any rules and procedures may be tweaked at any time, but my goal is to make everything a majority decision whenever possible. What I need from everyone (willing to participate) is the following:

List your global name(s).
List all the builds you intend to use (primary/secondary/ancillary).
List if you desire to be a captain (even if you’ve already pm’d me before).

List any comments or suggestions on any of the rules/procedures above.

Thanks,
Psoma

I'm glad you've kept your signature. I remember hearing about Macron, and I hope his family has recovered (as much as can be expected) after that tragedy. The memorial PvP event in his honor was a great display of respect from our community; did it become an annual event? (I can't remember-maybe it was going to be but Test was down the 2nd year.)

We did it for 2 years. i13 came out before we could do another one. It wasn't the game he loved anymore so it didn't happen. I think Jenny Dangerous (Girl Sixx) might have done something though, probably a thread in memory.
