Yup, but be aware that if they ever DO make those level of IOs available at some point...well, it won't be pretty for anyone using the system to store inf...

I don't think Explosive Strike, Chance for Smashing Damage is included in the drop tables. I've had to use merits to acquire this particular IO.
However, since you can get them with merits, don't bid on it! So yeah, use those lvl 53 IOs. If we get lvl 53 recipes, we'll have to aggressively clear out base salvage or some old hami-os and hope someone isn't keeping them in their base for this very occasion.
Caveat:
It's not that they "cannot" exist. Clearly they do as there is a biddable
record in the database. That's to say, you can bid on them and see the
stats they'd confer if you had one slotted.
The distinction is that "currently" none of the actual 51-53 IO's shinies
or recipes themselves exist. For the programmer geeks out there, the
"class" for those shinies IS defined. However, as yet, there are not
any "instances" of the shinies or recipes currently in the game.
All that is needed to change that is to provide a drop rate > 0 for them.
So, those of use who have bids on those items are at risk. To be sure,
it's a calculated risk, but one that certainly could end up biting some
of us down the road, should the devs ever decide to establish a positive
drop rate for those recipes without enough warning for us to shift our
"investment" funds.

If I remember, there's a bug with various "cap at 20" recipes where they aren't dropping from 16 or 17 to 20. It may have been fixed when I wasn't looking, though.

So, in theory, you're relatively safe bidding on certain levels (probably safer bidding a recipe over a crafted as a marketeer might spot the ruse), but I wouldn't risk it, because there is absolutely no way to acquire a lvl 53 recipe.
edit: Thanks for the explanation as to why, Fulmens. I just knew they weren't dropping, but didn't know exactly why.
I don't think there is anything that can't exist, but I think the Black Market Teleporter inspiration is very unlikely to exist, especially heroside. And the Wentworth Teleporter inspiration is not likely to exist villainside.

Actually, a 2 billion bid on 1 GA +3% def is not exactly unsafe. As others have pointed out, it's looking like you can sell these off-market for a substantial profit. ^_^

I have seen that there are a few bids for level 1 HOs, and SOs as well. Not sure if they are droppable currently, take a look at them.
The Conceal Insperation might also be a good one to bid on. I have never seen one of those drop 
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

I'm nowhere near this level at all but if a person did want to have more than 2b liquid, are there any items that can be bid on which absolutely cannot exist?
