I really don't like price caps
I think we should lower the price cap to 10million inf, that way everyone will be able to afford them and the supply will increase.
I wonder how many of those 197 bidding are under 2 bil, thinking they might be lucky enough to score one for a bargain?
@Roderick
Well with all the PvPrs moved to Freedom instead of Test, we might be getting more of these on the market. At least, one can hope!

Haha, I got neg repped for posting this. Apparently, there are some folks out there that think this is a backwards way of bragging about my wealth. If I was out to brag, I'd have moved alot more influence onto this toon and really make it look impressive. Yes, I have substantially more on other characters.
4B is really nothing. And at the end of the day, it's all play money anyways.
I bet if the two billion inf cap wasn't in place, you wouldn't be able to buy those IOs even with all the inf on your server.
Tbh show off moar of your wealth plz.
@Psycho Jas
Clear, we need lower price caps to fix this problem. If there was a cap of 20 million, I'm certain there be hundreds more on the market. Price caps na0, plz devs!!

As it is right now, I can't buy them at the max price because there are none available. Note that I have a bid out on the recipe *and* the crafted IO.
If there were any available at other ranges, I would actually cover those too.
I thought it was people not doing any PvP that was driving down the supply!
And this isn't so much a "price cap" as it is a limitation in the game. That is, I don't think it was intionally meant to put a ceiling on how high you could make a bid. The devs just never imagined way back in the day that anyone would ever be able to get that much inf!

I say that if you really want to get PvP IO's, you forgo the two billion influence bids, and talk some other players into joining you, so you can battle each other (edit: on a regular basis!). I think your chances of getting one would be a lot higher that way.
4B worth of bids out and not nibble. But it still irritates me that even if you have the influence, there's just no supply. 197 bidding, 0 supply. I'm guessing that if the 2B price cap wasn't in place, these IOs would go for even more. |
There is no FIFO or any other tag or system to prioritize bids at the price cap. This means that even though you may have put your inf capped bid in months ago, that someone else may put in a capped bid an hour from now and then 5 minutes later snag a newly listed IO. The only way to win that lottery is to buy more tickets (ie: put in more bids)

Since server transfers have been free i have gotten 4 toons to around 200 rep on freedom. not one single pvp recipee drop for me or any of the people i play with nightly. the drop rates are very very low for that to be random.
How would you feel about a store, that would sell recipes for inf ?
Any pvp unique 1 billion.
any pvp non unique 100 million
Any purple 175 million
PVE uniques variable somewhere between 100 and 200 million a piece
Other pve recipes non purple non uniques, non global bonus 20-75 million
Because if people aren't willing to list their pvp recipes fo 2 bill 2.25 2.5 3. or 3.5 isn't really going to produce an upswing in supply.
Grats on your number 9 though
Edit have some positive rep. I would recommend just not caring what people think though, more often than not they dont

I suspect there is no one out there holding on to these recipes. If they can't use them, then the only incentive not to list them for sale would be if you wanted to come here to the market and offer it up for sale direct to the buyer (no market fee) or ask for even more than 2 billion. And it sounds like you'd have a taker on that offer. ^_^
I'm not in favor of recipes being sold directly by vendors, that would wreck the player market, but I wouldn't mind seeing PvP recipes drop more often. Also for mild-level Pool C's I'd like the option to be able to roll randomly at a level of the player's choosing, rather than their actual level. As far as purple recipes go, I'm one of those that thinks things are working as intended. They're meant to be that rare.

I was in the same boat as you Fury, that is until I got lucky a few days ago.
I just logged into Sirens' Call on Freedom as I noticed as someone mentioning something about just getting one of these. I sent them a tell about it and they told me that they had listed one of these recipes at lvl 48 listed already on the market. I was short 150 mil of the asking price (2 bil) on my toon, so I had a friend do an infuence transfer quickly, I placed the bid, felt a little sick for spending that much fake money on one item, and I got it. So yeah, change your filter to Sale only and check crafted and uncrafted frequently or make some friends in PvP zones. Who knows, you may get luckly.

I'm honestly quite surprised the drop rate hasn't been increased. I expected that when the devs saw things going for the cap (and thus people not being able to outbid for them), it would be a flag. Apparently I was wrong

I've got a new plan for making Inf. Bid 2 billion for one of those recipes. Then when the RNG gives one to me, offer to sell it here for 3 billion! Who ever said you can't flip something at the price cap?

On the technical side: there is probably a limitation in the database that prevents bids greater than 2,147,483,647. If the price is stored as a signed two's-complement 32-bit integer, 2,147,483,647 (2 to the 31st power minus 1) is the largest possible integer that can be stored. It's not some arbitrary cap, it's a limitation of the numeric format. They may be limiting it to two billion to avoid the really silly looking value above.
If the price is stored an unsigned integer that maximum possible value would be twice that, or slightly more than four billion.
The only way the limitation can be removed is to store the data in a bigger field, which has to be some quad-size integer (64 bits) or some other format used to store very large amounts of money.
But it's more complicated than that, because everywhere throughout the code where influence is referenced, changes have to be made to ensure that the new data type is properly handled. That probably means hundreds of changes in the client, on the server, and on the market server. Most programming languages don't have intrinsic data types that manipulate such large numbers (you want to avoid floating point values because of roundoff errors -- you should use some kind of integer value when manipulating money and similar things because people just don't like their money disappearing just because you multiplied or divided).
In short, removing this limitation would probably be a large, time-consuming, costly and potentially error-prone task.
Anyway, if the lure of two-billion a pop PvP recipes isn't enticing people to find them, it seems unlikely that four or six billion would be any more motivating.
