Unable to load into random zones.

I've been experiencing an issue on and off since the MA was implemented. Every once in a while, I will be unable to load into a random zone. So far it's happened with Pocket D, an SG base, several MA missions, several Paper/Radio missions, with several characters. Here's what happens:

I try to zone, either by logging in or just changing zones. The game will appear to freeze for anywhere up to 1 minute. ( If I alt-tab out and bring up the task manager, it will show CoH as "Not Responding" ) After which, I am booted out to the login screen with a "no mapServer connection. try again." message box.

At this point, I can't enter that zone until the server is reset. When that happens, everything works fine.

Here's my CohHelper Info

If anyone has any insight into why this could be happening, I'd greatly appreciate a post about it. Currently, I can't load into Cap, KR, a rikti mission from Borea, and a radio mission in PI. Needless to say, not being to play these characters/in these zones is a bit frustrating. Thanks!

If it aint fun, why bother playing?

That's an awful lot of ram in use, and the paging file is pretty close to the allocated limit too. Is that what you're normally running while you're playing? It may be that your system is running out of memory in those zones. There are probably some things you can try disabling, like the Dragon Age updater, while you're playing. There are probably other things, but someone more experienced with Hijack logs would need to pick those out for you.

While It may not be entirely related to your issue Id flip the C and E hard drives around and make E the new C harddrive (main disk) as that 40 GB is a much smaller, slower and likely old disk. Id also try updating to service pack 3.

These issues probably have nothing to do with your current problem but will likely help. I am however noticing it says you have 14 % free on you C drive and 1% free on your E drive. Which can't be correct based off the disk space it says you're using. That makes me think you need to run scandisk to correct errors on the hard drives. Which likely occurred from all of your crashing.

Just a few things you may want to try if you can't solve your issue based off what info others give you here. As a last resort you could try a reformat and reinstall windows / coh. Something thats good to do anyway every 3 - 6 months.

The 14% looks about right given the figures and the 1% looks to be about 1.9% so truncated to 1%.
However windows struggles when trying to find free space with that little available - especially if the disk is fragmented and I would expect it to be given that defrag will probably fail to complete in anything less than a month. This will have a major impact on performance when attempting to write to the disk.
I'd strongly suggest some disk housekeeping is badly needed.

Thanks for all the advice, I did run ChkDsk and defragged, after cleaning up a bunch of garbage on my drives.

Today, after the patch, everything seemed to be working fine. Until I zoned into the RWZ. Once again, the game appeared to freeze for a few moments, then disconnected.

"no mapServer connection. try again."

After logging back in, that character shows as being in the RWZ, but I can't actually load into the RWZ. Any other character that is already in the RWZ has the same problem. Any other character that I try to get into the RWZ will also have the same issue.

If it aint fun, why bother playing?

OK in that case its clearly a plot see the Hijack This for details

try updating your directx 9.0 to directx 10. also update your video drivers. you also might want to take any music or videos you have stored and burn them to a disc and get them off of your comp. you can also try resetting your modem and router.

I wasn't aware that WinXP officially supported Dx10.

His video driver isn't horribly old, but it can't hurt updating to the latest version, but before he goes downloading more stuff.. I think he should take your next suggestion.. It appears there isn't much free drive space on that system, which can cause things to slow down or freeze, especially if the drive is fragmented. I recommend moving or deleting seldom-used data and defragment the drive again. See how the performance is and make any driver updates if necessary after that.

i'm not quite sure if xp supports dx10 either. but it wouldn't hurt to find out.

To my knowledge it does not.

Still have the issue, had to petition a GM last night to move a character out of Steel Canyon. Until the server resets, I won't be able to load into Steel Canyon or the RWZ.

Now, running a clean healthy system is important, I get that. But, if the problem goes away when their server resets, doesn't that suggest the issue is more on their end, rather than mine? Or am I completely off base here?

If it aint fun, why bother playing?

First, I hope everyone had a great holiday season, I know I did.

I'm picking up this thread because the problem hasn't gone away. Currently I am unable to load into the RWZ, PI, a paper mission in Grandville, and prior to losing access to PI, I had a radio mission and a contact mission that wouldn't load there.

Now, all of this is happening on the Virtue server. I can go to Justice or Freedom, and load these zones with no issues.

Does this mean that the issue lies with that server and my account info that is saved there? I don't know. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and I am fairly certain that defragging/freeing HD space or making sure that my power cable is 3 inches to the right instead of 4 inches to the left is not the problem.

In addition to this problem, I haven't received my 60 month vet reward yet, which should have been awarded about mid December of last year.

Who do I need to get in contact with to have someone take a look at my character/account info, just to make sure there isn't some kind of mismatch or data corruption?

Not knowing if I'll successfully load into Random Zone A or B or C is more than a little frustrating. This is compounded by the feeling that since this appears to be an isolated issue, ( I don't know of anyone else that is experiencing this particular problem ) it doesn't rate high enough on anyone's todo list for it to be addressed in a timely fashion.

Please Devs, I know you guys have your hands full, but if anyone could possibly squeeze in a bit of time to give this issue a good once over, and hopefully pinpoint the problem, I will be very grateful.

File a support ticket on the PlayNC support website for the veterans rewards.

I'd recommend filing a /petition from the character and selecting Stuck as the type of petition, list the zones and missions (by name) that you can't get into.

You can update the /petition from the PlayNC support website to include any more information you feel is relevant to the issue.

This is strictly a customer service issue, not something that the Devs have any control over. Customer service and most of the GM's are in Austin, some may be in Washington, and the Devs are in California.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.
