CoV mission morality
I don't play CoV, but I know that Westin Phipps should be totally avoided - he's so evil, even Hero-only players know about him

I'm going to make a Brute version of my Tank and switch him to CoH when Going Rogue comes out.
Are there any missions in CoV that make you "kill" civilians or anything like that. I really want to start playing him now, but I'm obviously going to have to do the villain missions. How many of the missions are clearly evil? |
The Technician Naylor arcs are fairly neutral, Johnny Sonata's too. Oh, and there's Diviner Maros.
For ones you should avoid: Psimon Omega's, Westin Phipps, about half of the contacts in Nerva, really (Longbow traitor, looney ex-hero). Scirocco and Ghost Widow's arcs, at least towards the end since you're stopping something potentially good from happening.

For arcs that are kind of heroic or at least neutral: Seer Marino's Oh Wretched Man, Captain Petrovich's Iron Widow Arc, plus he lets you blow up the Cage Consortium building and I'm a strong scrapyarder sympathizer, we've all had a horrible job that really sucked but we couldn't quit.

total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
No there are no "kill civilian" mishes (although I wouldn't mind pounding on a few of them in bank mishes when they get in my way).
As GG said you might want to avoid the contact Westin Phipps in Gville. He gets a kick out of hurting the poor masses and it seems you don't have the stomach for it.
Basically, all the mishes are "evil" your a villain, you rob, kidnap, defeat, etc everyone you come across.I suggest you go to http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Main_Page and start looking up your contacts per zone.
As a long time player of Heroic Villains, I have a few recommendations...
First, I always replace the words "Kidnap" and "Steal" in newspaper missions with "Rescue" and "Recover", since they're almost identical to the blueside missions.
I'd also highly recommend Hardcase's Arc. There's only one remotely evil act in that arc, where you put a Demon Attracting Device in the sewers underneath Paragon City. (I RPed it as putting it under a Crey Lab, so it worked out)
Choose Kalinda as your starting contact. She leads to Mongoose, who has a Bank Robbery as his open mission, but is otherwise fairly benign. Doctor Geist has missions where you kidnap homeless people to turn into infected.
Peter Themari is also a definite one to avoid, as the person you corrupt eventually becomes a victim of the Devouring Earth. For your Cap Au Diable Arcs, I'd recommend Shelly Percey provided you skip the mission where you steal an antidote, and then either do "O Wretched Man" when you're 15.
Johnny Sonata isn't so bad. Ties in well with Hardcase. (In fact, Sonata and Hardcase will carry you through most of St. Martial and the 40s.)
When you're short on arcs, There's always AE, The RWZ and Cimerora (After 35) and Newspaper Missions.
Wait you people actually get upset or change it in your mind as to what your doing in villain mishes!?!?
Thanks for all the advice so soon.
I've also heard that CoV is a great place to knock around Arachnos outside of missions.
A decent amount. There are no explicit 'kill civilians' missions, but there are missions to give Shift to people, deliver people to Vahzilok members, sacrifice strikers to the CoT, deliver heroes to people who intend to dissect them, trap souls for the Mu...
On the other hand, as people above me have hinted, with some careful planning you can basically avoid anything worse than being a mercenary who's willing to rob banks and beat up Longbow from time to time, especially if you're willing to ignore some details.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
Westin Phipps is actually a very humorous contact. It's just the side-effects of working with him that people find botheresome. Allow me to demonstrate:
Phipps dialog:
I've got a rather nasty problem growing around here. It seems that a nest of Arachnoids has sprung up near Haven house, and it's causing all sorts of trouble. I really don't care about their eating the odd person, but it's starting to drive people away, and that makes it harder to gather information. So, I need you to eradicate this particular Arachnoid nest so I can get back to my job informing for Arachnos. |
You found this old photograph clasped in the claw of the Arachnoid leader. The picture shows what looks like a poor family in the interior of Haven House during the holidays. Despite their obvious poverty, they all seem quite happy, and the children are hugging Westin Phipps' leg. On the back, it says: 'Mr. Phipps was so kind. He even promised to find me a job. This is the first day of a new life for my family!' |

What is truly "Evil" in CoV? The only thing I can think of is the Drop off hostages to Vhazilok story, and Maybe Phipps arc. Other than that you are a Merc.
Other than that, you never kill civilians, you can never hurt them. You don't even harm hostages, but the critters can, so you end up protecting them.
"Sorry bucko, but CoH and CoV are the same game." -BackAlleyBrawler
"Silly villain, CoX is for Heroes!" -Saicho
nope, it's all "defeat"
"defeat" them with your assault rifle
"defeat"them with your lethal arrows
"defeat" them by caving in their skulls with a mace
"defeat"......well....you get it
watching sparks fly off of human flesh when I hit them wth my katana, like it's an episode of power rangers, lol.
in conclusion, I want a 18+ version. Or a blood on/off option.....or both
If I recall correctly, Hardcase the demon hunter is particularly goody-two-shoed.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

But mostly, there's no profit in harming the 'little people'.
I still think that we could push the boundary of the term "villainy" a bit further in CoV especially since Mr. " I want my 4-year-old to be able to play" Statesman is gone. Like Sam Tow always says, I don't want the dumb-down murderer type of villainy, but the "Millions will Die" type of villainy. Someone like Doom has killed before, but considers it beneath him to get his hands dirty.
"Samual_Tow - Be disappointed all you want, people. You just don't appreciate the miracles that are taking place here."
Scirocco and Ghost Widow's arcs, at least towards the end since you're stopping something potentially good from happening.

Scirocco's plan is downright chilling, especially when you see his "improvements" on Ice Mistral.
I think even heroes would want to stop him.

I have about... 5 Villains. One is about as close to Lawful Good as a Redside toon can get, one is Chaotic Good (I.E. If she thinks it's for the greater good, she'll do it. This is going to bite her in the *** in a few months), one is Neutral Good, One is True Neutral because he doesn't know any better (or worse), and one is Chaotic Neutral with a serious anger problem.
I can't do evil... yet the opening Blueside areas drive me mad in comparison...
Well, the reason I don't play CoV is that I don't like doing evil things, even in a game
|
Ok I get GG's response, but, when you play CoV it's about being bad even if the content is rather tame.
I figure if your a villain then it should be all out,ie;people getting hurt in bank mishes, the ability to rob/knock around people on the streets,in my mind when I put the smack down on Longbow they die,not get teleported to safety.I also realize that there has to be limits no ****,torture, etc.
I can see why the game was done the way it is but you have to admit there are ALOT of other games out there that you see death and deal it too.
I guess I just don't get why you would want to play a villain when you don't want to be a villain.

I'm an RPer, and it's only on my "Good Guy" toons.

I get the it's a theme or part of the background story. It's the personal issue with playing a villain that I can't wrap my head around.
|
So I'm guessing you can't wrap your around why not everyone steals or robs banks or kills people?
Joking aside...it's really psychologically for me.
Even if I break it down to the fact that it's just a video game...I can play CoV and obviously not actually be evil...but I just have more fun playing a hero.
