New pvp style
I know alot of the population in this game don't pvp simply because they don't enjoy it so why shove it on people with temp powers and accolades. Make a pvp flag people can set on or off and they would be able to fight anyone with said flag also on. Make it like this anywhere pvp zone or not so anyone could go into a what is called now a pvp zone and not have to pvp. This would effectively remove all pvp zones and no longer force anyone into anything they just do not enjoy.
Since such a small population of the game actually pvps there wouldn't be to many fights break out in places disrupting people and it might actually be neat to see a super powered battle here and there on your travels. This isn't an orignal idea but I feel like it deserves it own thread and maybe it could be something added to going rogue or sometime after since the devs specifically said they aren't done with reworking pvp yet. Any thoughts. |
Yeah, my thoughts, as always with these sorts of duels, is "Damn, that'd be annoying." And yes, even in Aion - where we have rifts, etc. bringing in more widespread PVP - I find it REALLY annoying to have the clash-clang-slam of a battle suddenly break out when I'm in a non-open PVP area, such as Sanctum, trying to craft/use the broker/etc. I'd find it exceptionally irritating to have one break out, say, during a dev event in Pocket D (where I'm already due to the crowd, thanks,) or while I'm in Wentworth's or what have you.
The Arena can now be accessed via menu. Use that.
I could see a lot of griefing going on with this system too, not unlike what we have in the arena but it still doesnt solve the problem of griefing.

Sorry, Mr. Lucky666, but the prime reason for not wanting a PvP flag (like another game or two have) is the expectation that some would simply target non-PvPers with repeated and incessant duel requests, to the point of harassment and spamming.
Would this really happen? I don't know, but wouldn't be surprised if it did.
I'm pessimistic about human behavior in general, but that's me.
From a Pro-PvP side, I still think this is a bad idea for PvP, as it would allow PvP in all zones, dispersing the tiny PvP crowd even further by scattering them across all zones. If no two PvPers meet, then there simply is no PvP.
There is a flaw in my statement though. Through Global channels, and the Arena channel, PvPers could still organize amongst themselves to meet and engage in that which they enjoy. Would they? Sure, some would. There is/was organized times for PvP contests on certain servers for instance. See your server's forum to check.
With the PvPers scattered across all zones, and the PvP flag turned off, it would certainly be even easier to get Shivans and Nukes.
Would you have the flag forcibly set to "PvP-On" when I enter one of the current PvP zones?
Flagged PvP: Often suggested, always a lousy idea. No.

While you're at it add diminishing returns to PvE and heal decay and just turn all of CoH into a PvP zone just like champions! (read sarcasm)

Ya know, I am no PvPer, but I wouln't be against some form of triggered PvP. With GR coming out and there being fallen heroes and reformed villains running around, I would think things like attacking citizens or robbing banks would be something that would trigger a "timed" pvp event where the offender would have to perform some act before getting caught.

New PvP style:
* Get rid of diminishing returns
* Get rid of travel suppression
* Get rid of base resistances
* Get rid of heal decay
* Put mez protection back in
* Add PvP-centric minigames with tangible rewards for the participants
The end.

But the reason I think this could maybe work is because there is gonna be loyalist and resistance people and they directly oppose each other, so it wouldn't really make sense for them to team. Now with heroes and villains they have always been on opposite sides but never directly been in conflict with each other. Dissliked or not I had to put it out there.

Unfortunately, I don't know what that mechanic is.
Blazara Aura LVL 50 Fire/Psi Dom (with 125% recharge)
Flameboxer Aura LVL 50 SS/Fire Brute
Ice 'Em Aura LVL 50 Ice Tank
Darq Widow Fortune LVL 50 Fortunata (200% rech/Night Widow 192.5% rech)--thanks issue 19!
I always thought we could rob from Peter to pay Paul here. If those ATs with little to no mez resistance could sacrifice some damage or control to temporarily boost mez resistance, I would think that would be fair. Considering some sets use mez as their bread and butter, it wouldnt seem fair to be able to completly negate their primary, but this gives them and you a fighting chance.

I agree with all, but I would rework the mez mechanics. As far as i'm concerned the old issue 12 mez mechanics were as retarded as the current mez mechanics. There HAS to be a middle ground between "either come with breakfrees or don't come at all" and the current mez system.
Unfortunately, I don't know what that mechanic is. |
The middle ground for mez effects was always either play a melee character or team. Melee characters needed a buff to their mag protection, but the old system was pretty good. If you didn't have protection native to your character, bring breakfrees or team.

So the middle ground is the same as it is now?
