I have noticed a serious drop in player numbers on virtue since the release of AION. I have seen it said that the Devs love COX and want to see it continue to thrive. Well to be honest its kind of hard to believe this when NCsoft never advertises for COX on either Television or radio. There does not seem to be any drive at all really to drive up player numbers in any way other than the 14 day free trial or player based invites. Now seriously guys we pay to play the game please take a more responsible role in getting the information out there. Youtube does not cut it. There NEEDS to be a Television Presence because just about everyone I know has no idea what COH is. You guys say you want this venue to thrive? hmm doesn't seem like it. Please quit relying on us, "the players" who grant you our presence and pay you our cash to do your advertising for you. So grab some pencils dev boys and girls and get to work proving to me and all of us really, that you want COH to survive the new onslaught of games coming down the pike. Cya

WoW was able to do it because it was Blizzard, who had had many successful games before WoW. And they had millions of subscribers to back up the investment, too.
Games that you see advertised on TV, for either the XBox, PS3, or other game systems usually are due to the fact that the company has been very successful with products in the past. EA is now huge, and can advertise a lot. NCSoft, not so much in the American market.
And yeah, this is far from a tech issue or bug.

Television advertising is expensive and is a LOUSY way to advertise unless you are selling something that has sufficiently wide appeal. TV ads are great for food, cars, cell phones, medication, movies with name stars, toothpaste, razors, clothing, travel, booze, etc. These are all things where you have millions of potential customers watching.
Having said that, advertising on specialized cable TV shows that focus on gaming MIGHT be worth it. But ads on the networks / major cable channels would be a huge waste of money.

Glad to see we have some advertising experts who play COH :O) Yes it can be expensive and then again maybe it isnt. I mean advertising is a tax write off, or at least a bit of it is. Anyway my point is they DO have the cash and they COULD advertise if they wished to do so. Cya.

1. You're breaking company policy, or
2. You have no clue what you're talking about as far as if they have the cash or not, given other priorities.
My guess is the second.

And please, let us all in on your inside knowledge of just how much money NCSoft has, and it's expendable budget allocation that would go towards this endeavor.
Long story short - you don't know what you're talking about.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
I'll say this, if I EVER win hundreds of millions* in the mega lotto, I would personally fund a commercial for CoX to be broadcast during the Superbowl. And not one of the cheapo spots either, I'd go for the most high profile spot there is and shell out $3 mil for it. On top of getting a couple of celebs to 'star' in it and having good production value.
Of course that's not likely to ever happen, but if it ever does, let this be more or less my personal promise that I will do it.
*By hundreds of millions, I'm talking that AFTER taxes and everything I still have more that $100+ million left.

BaBs, please fix the bug with weapon redraws that is preventing Paragon Studios from advertising nationally.
I don't believe a member of NCSoft or Paragon Studios finance department would be allowed to post from a "non-redname" account. Which leaves us one of two conclusions:
1. You're breaking company policy, or 2. You have no clue what you're talking about as far as if they have the cash or not, given other priorities. My guess is the second. |

Maybe Vince Offer can take some time away from ShamWow and Slap-Chop ads and do some late night shilling for City of Heroes!
Actually I've seen a few other MMOs advertised as well as the 800 pound gorilla.
There was Pirates of the Caribbean but that's got some Disney money behind it. Also saw ads for Disney's ToonTown Online.
Cartoon Network's Fusion Falls but only advertised on CN and possibly during CW's Saturday morning cartoons.
Then there were a few of the microtransaction, kid oriented MMOs. But again only on CN/Nick/Disney but only for a couple of weeks.

Well well well hehe my suggestion seems to have created a little ruckuss, well thats fine. I never said I was an expert in advertising nor did I suggest they spend millions of dollars doing so. I do believe my good friends, that if NCsoft really wanted to make a better effort at getting the message out, they could. I have noticed the extreme comments like, super bowl advertising lol like I would suggest such a thing. You ALL know darn well they can afford to put on an add campaign of some kind so dont give me this hog wash about my flipping the bill. Sure its easy to point out what I have yes and if they offered me the job of advertising exec I would work for free. I do see what some of you are trying to say. For instance, those of you who have a strong objection do so seemingly from a perspective that NCsoft must be broke and could never afford such things as advertising. Why on earth would anyone come from this perspective? What type of doubts do you share regarding their inability to afford the luxury of advertising? I mean seriously, look back at what some of you have said and yes, you look as if you think NCsoft to be broke or can't afford to take on such a thing as advertising, where ever it may be. So to some of you, I may not know what I am talking about but I dare say, I just might. Those of you claiming I have no idea what I am talking about YOUR the ones who seem most sure that NCsoft could never afford such an undertaking. Well maybe it is you who have no idea what your talking about then hmm? These will be my last words on this subject and I do thank those of you open minded enough to realise that NCsoft could possibly afford some advertising some where. (Super Bowl advertising excluded of course).

There have been national TV advertisement campaigns in the past about the time of EU launch iirc and also prior to CoV launch - so they *may* run one for GR - indeed I've seen more adverts for CoX than for WoW - although that amounts to single figures for the two combined.
However I'm sure the marketing depts have analysed the results from the previous campaigns and will use that as a guide to the likely return they would expect from running another. If it won't generate sufficient revenue to cover the cost of the campaign - and that's not just the cost of the airtime its not going to happen.
I'd also agree with the earlier statements that national prime time tv campaigns are probably not the best place to put their money. Adds in the computing or gaming press or in retailers on the other hand may well have a much better return.

I think they should get product placement in TV programs that would be likely to attract new players.
I think they should buy advertising space in World of Warcraft.
Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges
Mission Architect arcs: Doctor Brainstorm's An Experiment Gone Awry, Arc ID 2093

I think they should just go around and find people who are not playing the game now and FORCE them to buy a subscription, play, team with IonMatrix and teach him the beauty of paragraphs.
On a serious note, they could partner with a computer manufacturer to install a City icon on each new computer giving a free 14 day trial. That way everyone with a new computer will have the opportunity to experience City, and, how much would that cost the company as opposed to the rewards.
