Starting from scratch
Well, you could always either remake them on a new server or just remake them with a different name (and claim that it's their long lost identical cousin).
It's difficult to change mindsets, so that will probably put a huge road block between you and whatever suggestions people make. First I'd suggest throwing everything you know about, concept, roleplay, and backstory out the window and just picking powerset combinations because you've seen others do cool things with them, or because you say "hm, this combination might be fun and/or powerful." Basically, become a powergamer - again, that's a mindset change. Try to do something interesting, like leveling from 1-50 only on sewer teams, or speed run lots of task forces and try and get your completion time as low as you can. When you bump up against a wall in PvE, don't forget that there's still the entire PvP game you've likely not experienced - PvP is quite different than PvE these days, but if PvE just isn't doing it for you anymore you can give PvP a shot. It's what I did, and it's what keeps me around.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
I have always found fun in taking powersets that people hate and making them work. Sometimes I have spent days with mids trying to come up with a build that is reasonable on the wallet and fun to play.
A lot of people say Dark Armor is junk, however my elec/da brute is one of my favorite characters.
Sounds like you just need a good case of altitis to cure the lv50 blues.

How about trying to totally reverse your normal process? Start with the character and work towards the concept. Pick an AT and powers (use dice for some or all of that, if you really want to go for a complete break). Randomise the costume, even. Then say they woke up in Paragon with their name, their spandex, a brand new walk power, and no idea of who they are or why they're there. Total amnesia. Then start playing them, and grow their concept (and new costume) from the storylines, PCs and NPCs they interact with.
It could be a total disaster, or it could be fun. But either way, as macskull said, you pretty much have to look for *a* new play style if you want to rejuvenate the game for yourself again. Or take a break from the game for a while, until you come up with another perfect concept character you find you really want to play.

Death is part of my attack chain.
A couple of my favorites have gotten second iterations, my first(out of 2 ) level 50 became a PB so it was a pretty cool story, so if restarting a character is what you need to do then go for it, make an slightly different version of your toon like comic books do all the time with their "ultimate" editions
Triceth LVL 50 Ice/Storm Controller
Ghost Scrapper LVL 50 MA/reflexes Scrapper
Gespin LVL 44 Spine/Regen Scrapper
Treal LVL 41 Emp Defender
Radill LVL 41 Ill/Rad Troller
I want to start from scratch and go through the leveling process (another aspect that makes this game fun for me) again with these same characters...but in doing this I would have to delete the characters at level 50 because I have to use the correct names.
So I'm torn...I really do not want to delete the 50s...but I might be done with this game if I don't. Has anyone done this? If not...what would you do to keep interest in this game? |
Personally, I would skip the above, and suggest making either a rogue Paragon Protector clone of your level 50 character, and outfitting them with either a different colour scheme or similiarly based uniform, and same for the name. Or, make a Praetorian clone of your character who had a change of heart.

I too was a scrapper/tank player for a loooong time. After i met a guy in game that had like 47 50's across multiple servers, it got me to tinkering around with alts.
I'll tell ya, there are some really fun sets out there. Here are a few of my faves:
1) Controller-a) anything/Storm. Mine is Illusion. It has a good mix of damage and control.
b) Ice/Cold is another very fun one that i'm currently leveling atm. She's an awesome team toon.
2) Blaster- Elec/Elec in my opinion has the best visuals of any blaster set. Also, a good team build. The end drain is very nice, and has decent damage as opposed to what some may say.
Ice/Ice is awesome, too. Can solo or team well.
3) Defender- Again, i'm loving Cold Domination. Cold/Elec is mine but Dark goes well also, imo.
These are just my opinions. Good luck and i hope you find another fun set.
Since you've got 50s, you could always try a Kheldian. They're very different.
The Scrapper and the Tanker are the only ATs for me |

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
Sounds to me like you need to take a break for a while. Go, do other stuff, play other games, and then come back refreshed.
Here is a suggestion... you like Tanks and Scrappers sounds like you are a Melee minded person so why not go to the Darkside and Make a Brute and Stalker while they are totaly different maybe you could make the altered versions of your heroes... Just an Idea for ya
It's better to save the Mystery, than surrender to the secret...
Sometimes certain AT's/powersets can surprise you.I made a rad/rad corr probably around 18 month's ago and finally got him to 50.I looked at the /rad part as being awesome for gm/av/eb take down so I paired him w/my wife's ss/wp brute.I am now playing this toon all the time, the reason being is not only is he a support toon but,he took down his very first av which to me is a big deal.
I usually play brutes/scrappers,for me to play a corr is just unheard of and for my friends they are sorta shocked.I also got a fire/kin troller to 50 but that was more for inf/recipe farming.I also have a WS that was sitting at lvl 23 for the longest time.I like the toon but it was still sorta meh for me,I didn't want to delete him so I made him my badger and found it is perfect for my needs,he now is 35.
The point I'm getting to in my rather long winded explanation is that sometimes you will surprise yourself with certain at's,I know I did and I'm happy that I "evolved" to enjoy all that the game has to offer.
Sounds like you like the Melee sets rather than anything else, have you tried making a Peacebringer?
I found them to be suitably scrappy.
As for the concept, well you could just take your concept as stands to the next level.
I'm all about the character with my toons and when I made Knightingale and got her to 50. When I read that when you get to 50 you unlock the Kheldians and I read that they merge with a human host I jumped to the conclusion that it was level 50 heroes they merged with.
Now this may sound mad as a trumpet but in my head I couldn't match up the fact that I could play Knightingale AND a kheldian merged with Knightingale. So I put in a backstory where Gale was cloned twice and one was merged with a WS and another with a PB to make Knight.Shade and Knight.Bringer.
So I got to carry on the concpet going forwards into a different AT but with the same character. If you see my meaning. (Does that make sense?)
You could also try Energy Blasters, but spec them for Blapper duty. I have an Energy/Energy blaster who I love to use in melee combat with all the up close powers. Loads of fun.
I'd also recommend percevering with a toon for a while past just level 14. Alot of powerset's I find really don't come into their own till much later. I hated Stalkers till I got one into 30's and suddenly it all clicked. Same with my Tank strangely.
Controllers I've always loved, but I do find them hard work early on, but the mayhem they can unleash later is pure joy.
Dunno if any of that helps.
Blueside Level 50's.... Knightingale (Def), Rogue Elevenex (Blast), Lady Rogue (Scrap), Mr Infinity (Tank), Miss Infinity (Troller), Knight.Shade (WS), Knight.Bringer (PB)
Redside Level 50's... Colonel Rogue (Brute), Sergeant Domino (Stalk), F411-OUT (Dom)
Next Project: Psiryn Psi/Psi Cor Global Handle is @Knightingale
I've deleted my namesake multiple times. What's the big deal ? If you had fun leveling and aren't having fun anymore, starting over seems a logical choice to me.
A tip a friend gave me : copy any alt to the Test server before deletion. This way, every now and then you can give them a spin if you feel nostalgic.
I've played every AT and powerset at least up to level 14 and nothing I have came across is good for a concept I'm going for and it's just not fun to play.

My first character was a tanker, but I gave up on it at level 14 because it was kind of squishy, it was an end hog and it didn't do much damage. I tried scrappers too and had the same experience, so I avoided them for the longest time. I've since played many tankers, scrappers and brutes, and while I don't like them as much as ranged characters, they're fine for me now.
Tankers and scrappers are a pain in the neck to play until you get Stamina, SOs and enough slots to flesh out your attacks and defenses. Many Tankers don't really mature until the 30s. It's the same with other characters. In particular, low-level controllers don't have pets and area holds or the mid- to high-level secondary powers that can make them real killers. Defenders don't get enough attack powers or slots to do much damage till later.
My goal was to play all ATs so that I could understand how best to team with them. Knowing how all the powersets works is very useful, because you learn the synergies between them. For example, some tankers have stuns or holds as part of their attacks, and when you use one of those attacks in tandem with another player's similar attack, you can hold bosses in one. If you're teamed with a /Dark scrapper, who often have a stun AoE toggle, you can use that to stun a boss in essentially one shot if you've got a stun too.
These days it's not all that hard to get a character to level 20 or 30, without PLing. You can get to level 10 in a couple of hours. Once you're there, hold off playing that character for several days to build up Patrol XP. You can level with a couple of good missions when you have patrol xp.
You don't say why these other characters don't do anything for you, but since you like scrappers and tankers, I'd guess that you don't like being held or being squishy, or you don't like playing too carefully and would prefer just to run in and fight. You also don't say whether you primarily solo or team. If we knew your preferences on some of these things it would help.
It takes a different mindset to play a squishy, but there are certain powersets that can let you play a lot like a scrapper or tanker solo. For example, Dark Miasma and Rad have to-hit debuffs that make the mobs miss you. A */Rad controller with pets can be pretty scrappy. A Dark Miasma Corruptor does a ton of damage and is extremely robust, especially once you get the pet. A Storm defender with Hurricane can solo x8 mobs pretty easily.
I can sympathize somewhat with your concept concerns. A lot of the powersets just seem kind of goofy or ugly. The power customization goes a long way toward correcting those issues. But if you're completely hung up on concept and are content to just replay the exact same character down to the name, I don't think there's anything anyone can suggest, except to move to another server that has the name free.
I've played this game for just about 3 years now and it has been one of favorite games.
My problem is that my love for this game is fueled by making "perfect" concept characters...with their backstories tied into the game canon and the powers reflect this.
I have my main characters all fleshed out at level 50 and now I can't come up with anything worth playing through the game.
I've played every AT and powerset at least up to level 14 and nothing I have came across is good for a concept I'm going for and it's just not fun to play.
The Scrapper and the Tanker are the only ATs for me and I have the "perfect" concept, backstory and powers for them. I only have two mains...one being the Tank and the other being the Scrapper. These are my characters that are fleshed out at level 50.
They have been at level 50 for more than a few months now and all the other characters I have created just do not do it for me like they do.
