Custom T-shirts

I was wondering if there is a way to order a T-shirt with one of a player's characters on it. If not, there should be! I'd order several for myself and more for my kids!

Thanks, and sorry if this is a goofy question!

Not via Paragon/NCsoft.

You could take a screen shot, and use cafepress or many other instant tshirt places.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

NCSoft have branched into T-shirt merchandise with the standard Arachnos or Statesman Star T's. Then there are the Hero-Con T-shirts as well. They don't do what you suggest though, and I agree, they should! It would be quite the project, but would make many players gleeful.

Technically, they only sell these items at HeroCon, so far. Nothing on the web, not since the overhaul to the store, years ago.

And NCSoft's lawyers my have a few things to say to you if you decide to start a business for other players as well.

You could always look for iron-on transfer ink jet paper and make a T-shirt like our favorite little heroine got last year.

Wouldn't there be legal issues with this, since the image would be property of NCSoft?

Again, many thanks for your replies!

Generally, if you are only making one or two, for personal use, and not selling them, most companies neither notice nor care.

As soon as you start mass producing and distributing them, whether it's for free, cost, or profit, legal departments start getting concerned.

My suggestion would be to PM Niviene or Avatea and ask them. If they don't know, they'll be able to ask the right person. Make sure you tell them that it's for prsonal use!

This.

I have several of my characters immortalized and hanging on the walls of my house and office (the sig has a few examples). Besides the 'for profit' thing, I think most developers see this kind of thing as free advertising (especially in the case of fan videos and such), unless it's being used in a way that doesn't reflect well on the property.

But it's a shame NC hasn't chosen to leverage this to promote the game. The big company does, with a full line of merchandise for their brand and players (but that may be why they're so big). It's a revenue stream that doubles as advertising.

i agree. i have some of the CoH heroclix, but would seriously be interested in being able to order a shirt with a picture of one of my favorite characters and their name. Having "City of Heroes" (or Villains) over or under that as well would be a great way to advertise the game.

Hell, if i liked the colors and design i would buy just generic City of Heroes and City of Villains shirts and hoodies.

I have both a T-shirt of my main character (we had them made special and three of us wore them at Hero Con) and a custom 6-inch action figure of her. (I'll try to remember to post some photos later.)

The opportunities are out there, it just takes a bit of research.

Sure today is the first day of the rest of your life. But so was yesterday. And look how that turned out.

I would be very interested in knowing how you went about making the T-shirt and action figure.

Niviene was kind enough to tell me that individual shirts for personal use are not a problem. I'm concerned that simply trying to use a screen shot as an image to screen print will not yield a decent result, but I have no other immediate ideas.

Thanks!

Several people customize action figures to CoH, including this guy. Check in the fan art section, doing a search on deviantart wil also come up with some. Celtic Claw briefly describes the process for this figure.

Online make your own custom t-shirts web sites via google. The cheapest method will basically be an iron-on of your uploaded image. If you want a silk screen, those will probably have a higher cost per t-shirt for the initial run along with an extra upfront cost for creating the silk screen template.

Of course, you can always patronize your local printer/print shop.

I find the responses interesting, and they are appreciated. The last two suggestions about T-shirts do not, however, address my concern regarding the quality of the image. Is there a way to produce a better quality image of a screen shot?

Thanks, and please forgive my ignorance!

The only thing you can do is to take the screenshot with your graphics up as high as they can go, especially FSAA. Take the shot in a bright area and then edit out as much of the extra stuff that you can. Using a program like Photoshop will help with that. You're still limited by the resolution though. You can't make a picture -better- than it was originally without heavy editing. Just like once an image is compressed and saved, you can't put it back the way it was.

A great alternative is to commission a picture of your character specifically. Personally, I'd go that route, because there are some really fantastic artists out there that do awesome work. Again, deviantart is a great place for that.

I'll ask my friend who coordinated both efforts to either post here or PM you about it, WD. I have to caution you that we used ARTWORK of our toons, not in-game screenshots, so I'm not sure how well a screenie of your character would translate onto a shirt (it probably depends on the quality of the image you send the T-shirt producer). As far as the action figures go, there are numerous customizers out there (check eBay and prepare to be overwhelmed), which obviously vary widely in price and quality.

Here are the two figures I had made (1 normal, 1 "battle-damaged"):

And here is the shirt front and back (sorry for the poor image quality):
