FF Question

I was wondering if it is possible to get a +100% defense bonus to my personal shield, the first ability, after adding enhancements. Or is there some sort of cap?

3 x lvl 50 Def IOs => 105.3 % according to Mids' for a MM's PFF

There is a cap but it's about 200%. In general once you hit 45% you're softcapped and more defense is only useful to counteract defense debuffs or to hit buffs on your enemies (for PvE at least).

Since we don't know what AT you are there are two base values for a PFF, 75.0% for Defenders and 67.5% for Controllers. You can double this with defense enhancements however the chance to be hit mechanics always gives your opponent a minimum 5% chance to hit you.

Edit: Yep, got them backwards.

You don't double it, with DEF it's closer to +55% ~ +60% depending on slotting.

Anyway, all versions of PFF are already over the soft cap with enough buffer to take a -7.5% debuff and still be capped, even before considering other powers like Dispersion. So there's no point in slotting any of them. You'd be better off doing recharge. Or just throwing an LotG in there.

That's what I thought but I was listening to all_hell's post. Still 75% x 1.6 = 120% (or 67.5 x 1.6 = 108%).

Still if it's the OP's desire to boost it so nothing will hit him, just pointing out that it'll never happen, always a 5% chance.

Somehow I think you have the numbers backwards: Defender buffs should be higher than controller... although I skipped PFF on my defender so I'll admit I'm just guessing based on buff modifiers. Not that it matters a whole lot with the kind of defense numbers we're talking about here.

This. The defense equations in this game are somewhat intricate, but probably 90% of the enemies you'll fight have a chance to hit that's (50% - Defense) * X where X varies with level, rank, etc. and the (50% -Defense) has a 5% minimum floor.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

You really don't even need to slot PFF for defense. It gets you well above softcap out of the box. I'd slot it for recharge personally. No sense in slotting it for End reduction either, since you can't do much of anything with it on, and aren't using end.

This. What's the point of the question? What do you want to DO that requires that much Defense?

Also, don't forget that PFF has a ~40% Resistance to everything to help handle that 5% of attacks that do get through (can't be slotted though).

I wonder, is there a Hami-O enhancement that could raise the resistance? In all these years, I've still never played with Hami-O's, so I'm not certain.

PFF takes end reduction, defense, or recharge, so if there's a dual purpose Hami-O that covers part of that could you use one of those?

---

Still, to the OP, I agree with most folks. Putting anything except maybe an extra recharge (ie having 2 recharges) in there is wasteful. And I'd only use 2 recharges on a Mastermind. Everyone else just throw one recharge into the base slot and use as needed.

Well according to Red Tomax the Damage Resistance portion of PFF is tagged to ignore enhancements so the answer is no. (Ribosome Exposures do increase Endurance and Damage Resistance though if you've got a hundred million or so spare and want to test this).

Nub asking: what is LotG?

Luck of the Gambler IO set.

From the context the +7.5% global recharge special IO is what is being referred to.

Absolutely nothing will get through! Including air!

(Yes, I know, not exactly a *personal* FF, but I find it amusing.)
