No Other Choices but Arachnos Rifles?

I made it to level 10 the other day on my Huntsman VEAT, and was disappointed when making my new costume, as it would not let me pick any weapon but the assortment of Arachnos rifles. That was fine for my Huntsman outfit, but I did want to branch out a bit with my other costumes.

Is it truly limited this way, or is there a bug? Seems a bit of an odd setup, since all the other costume slots can't use the Arachnos uniforms.

As far as I know that's how it is. Runs in the same vein as Widows being unable to customize their claws regardless of which costume slot you're editing.

Yet claws characters can have widow claws...

It would be nice if the non uniform slots had access to additional weapons from the standard claws and rifles selections.

Yes I know the Mace options would have to be limited to SoA and 'Tech' maces due to the blasts...

Yeah, it is a little weird. Especially since the story reasoning for the costume at level 10 is that you want to look like a hero... Arachnos weapons are fairly obvious looking, and not good if you're trying to look like someone else. Something that would be a concern, considering how much backstabbing goes on redside.

I suppose I don't get access to the Vanguard Redding Rifle, either. Bummer, that thing looks awesome. I suppose there are some reasoning bits, as the Pummel and Stab animations would be tricky with those, but I'd still like it.

Not sure about claws since I haven't played them, but Widows seems to have their claws as a limited form of a projectile since some attacks use the claws as a ranged weapon and other attacks have the claw actually increase in length. I wouldn't mind a few more options for claws. Personally, I am very interested in getting a Rularuu Crab Backpack. Rularuu and Talsorian Weapons should be available for every powerset that uses a weapon.

Lamentably, Weapons Customization is tied into powers, not costumes. For example, an Assault Rifle blaster will have the same selection of assault rifles regardless of the costume. The same is true with Arachnos Soldiers and Arachnos Widows. Because they're VEATs, they have a limited selection of costume items due to their Arachnos costumes. Unfortunately, this also affect the weapons from which they can select, even on other costumes, since the weapons are tied to their power and not the costume slots.

I suspect this would be a non-trivial issue to overcome (would require new tech). However, color me as wanting it when time allows.

There is always the possibility to add more Arachnos weapons to the lists. Having the Vanguard rifle modified a bit so that it has an Arachnos flavor to it should be possible. It shouldn't be hard to add more Arachnos weapons to the list, but they probably have their hands tied with GR for the next few months.

Well, it's my guess that the weapon choices are tied to the Power Set, NOT to the costume slot. So your costume for slot 1 is unique, but your weapons aren't -- they're shared with all the other costume slots.

The solution, I think, is to ask BaB to add more weapons to the Arachnos selection. You would have a couple of choices that wouldn't be "official" weapons for the Arachnos costume, but it would enable you to use those weapons for the non-official costumes.

And I definately wanted my Widow to have non-standard claws. She is based on a Claws/Inv Scrapper that she's the evil doppleganger of (not Praetorian, but close enough) and thus her second costume is almost identical to her good counterpart. Only she doesn't have the same claws.

This too. While I can see claws that LOOK more like the standard claws, they would still have to have some unique features. (Like growing longer)

Additional cossie slots on veats allow you to access standard cossies??!?

Assuming I interpret "cossie" correctly as "costume," yes. ONLY the first costume slot is restricted to the Arachnos specific costume parts, the four potential others (which VEATs don't need halloween salvage to get all of) WILL NOT allow you to use anything except standard costume components for your character, barring the specific exception of the crab pack on crab spiders and as mentioned above, only allowing Arachnos weapons for rifles and claws on their respective ATs.
