Confused about brute builds
Energizer bunny steamroller with little downtime?
Claws/WP
Be well, people of CoH.
lol, but until then I'm looking for something that will give me lots of dmg, and keep me alive for the most part. I want to kill lots of bad guys without alot of down time basically like an energizer bunny steamroller lol is this possible?

SS/ELA is another good option for the energizer bunny build. You can overcome some of hte toughest enemy groups in the game better than WP-- specifically Malta and Carnies. You also do much better damage thanks to Lightning Field. However, the set is far squishier than Willpower.
I echo a claws/WP. To me, SS is simple and a bit dull. Claws is more customizable, end efficient, and according to some recent numbers, numerically one of the most potent sets to go with for a primary.
WP is just plain easy mode. My main is a fiery aura brute, but I am still amazed at how easy and efficient it is to play my /wp scrapper. With decent resists, fair defense, scaling regeneration and an endurance recovery power, it is hard to fault.
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

I agree WP is one of the best well rounded secondaries and being new to the game you won't start out with the super expensive builds that really make some of the other secondaries shine. I would also go with Claws over SS only because the AoE comes earlier and is more abundant, and WP will have the endurance management for it. That being said, there is something to the Rage Foot Stomp combo.

Too bad, however, that is the only thing going for it. It may be a fancy trick, but SS has always come off has a one trick pony.

It has great ST DPS, thanks to KO and rage.
It offers extremely good mitigation with all the kb, ku, kd.
You have a nice hold in KO.
You get insane +to-hit.
Personally, it's certainly not for rage+footstomp i play my SS brute. It is very nice, but there's even better thing about it.

Personally, I like SS over Claws as well.
Claws is cool, don't get me wrong, but SS has the *oomphf* that I like seeing in a Brute. Its the classic beat em up guy.
To the OP:
SS/WP or SS/Elec are what you are looking for. /WP is a bit easier in the lower levels, and is tougher, but /Elec has access to a Damage Aura, Better end management tools, and comes with +20% recharge.
Both are good.
SS' ST DPS is average at best even before factoring resistances, unless you add Gloom. Now Gloom is certainly a valid option, especially as SS gets more out of it than any other primary thanks to Rage, but that's a very specific SS build that locks you out of the other PPP options.

SS single target damage isn't average, specialy not while you level. It gets it's big hitter very early and rage helps a lot untill you start slotting correctly.
About the resistance? Meh, half the sets are s/l, nothing new there.

Fore sure an SS/WP is very very nice. Especially too a new player, low levels are a breeze as you smash things up, and watch your fury rise. I loved it so much i have both an SS/WP and an SS/ELEC.
I'll list a few of the most popular builds for general gaming.
SS/WP is by far the most popular for a very valid reason. It really is one of the best all round toons.
DM/SHIELD with alot of cash this toon is very nice especially on TFs
SS/Fire and SS/ELEC are both quite similar in build, and each have advantages. They are both fully resistance based. With heals.
Elec/WP seems to crop up quite alot for it's pure fun factor.
I find SS/WP abit to easy mode, So i rolled a ss/elec which feels a wee bit squishy after /WP sadly.
Coinsidencetly both got deslotted for my Night Widow which has been my favourite toon by far. for well over 600hours of game play
I think /WP is deffinatly the secondry for you to go for.
Maybe mix it with Claws, Fire, Elec Stone, SS primaries, you can't go wrong with any to be fair.
@Effy
Effy On Hot Sauce Fire/Cold Corr
Effy On Hot Chilli Fire/Dark Corr
Effy On Heat FM/SD Before FoTM
Effy Unleashed DP/EN Blaster 1st 50 @ Union
Enregizer huh? My vote would be go for either claws/ElA or DB/ElA
I'm running a SM/ElA brute right now, and even the slow SM is more energizer-like with power sink and well, the move named energize, lol.
But for really fast? definitley not stone melee. I took it for ElA to speed it up, and it works =D

SS is simple, though I rarely find it dull. The KD from the attacks lends to SMASH factor.
One of the things I like about SS is it's simplicity. It has solid ST damage, and Solid AoE potential.
It also gets a great deal of benefit from adding outside damage sources (secondary, PPP) as they can sometimes combine with rage for great benefit.

Rage also does good things for Dark Obliteration or Ball Lightning, either of which combine with Footstomp for very respectable AoE capabilities. And though I realize you're commenting on ST damage, I think this is an important point.
And regardless of what PPP you choose, you can add to SSs capabilities without dealing with redraw.
I'll also comment that single target attack chains and ST DPS are mostly moot points outside of AV fights & AV soloing. In general play, it's rarely an issue as most things simply die too fast for it to matter.
To the OP:
As others have said, Willpower will definitely be the best choice for you to pick up and play and make your way to 50 in terms of ease of play.
Beyond that, pick a primary that appeals to you. Super Strength, Claws, War Mace, and Dark Melee are all great choices and you'll have a hard time going wrong with any of them on your first time out as a Willpower brute.
I left a few sets out, not because they're in any way bad, but because I think those primaries will be smoother sailing for a beginner, and will all be solid choices for Soloing.
Welcome to the game, Sivitry!
Alrighty, Super Strength is a powerful set, and pairing it with Willpower usually makes for a character that can crush just about anything in its way. Claws is comparative in terms of attack power because its attacks recharge quickly. It also has more AoE (Area of Effect) attacks than Super Strength does. I'd say that the difference is a matter of preference, but that both of them would probably work well for a newer player.
For the secondary, I'd suggest Willpower. It's simply the easiest secondary set to use, and it works great with brutes.
Invulnerability is a set that has the most Resistance in the game, which means that you'll always be hit by enemies, but the damage you take is reduced, sometimes to the point where your normal regeneration is enough to heal the damage you take. It has strong protection against just about everything other than psychic damage.
Super Reflexes is a Defense secondary, meaning that it helps you dodge enemy attacks. Enemies will have a harder time hitting you, but when you ARE hit then you'll take full damage. It also has a power that makes all your other powers recharge faster, and it always on once you get it.
Electric armor is sort of like Invulnerability, but it exchanges some of Invulnerability's higher resitances for for powers that will help you fight. You may take a little omre damage than an invulnerability Brute, but you'll deal more damage. It also looks pretty sweet, in my opinion.
Stone Armor is defenitely the powerset with the best protection in the game, and its last power turns you into a giant rock golem with ridiculously high resistance and defense to damage. tTHIS COMES AT A PRICE, HOWEVER, because Stone Armor brutes are VERY, VERY slow as a result of their powers, and their choice in travel powers is limited. Also, your powers recharge slower, lowering your damage. Not everyone wants to play this way, but I thought I'd throw it out there in case you were one of the one who do.
With Claws/Elec you eventually become the Energizer Bunny, and laugh at things like Carnies but it takes 35 levels to get your Infinite Endurance power with Power Sink and in the 20s you gasp for the healing that Energize gives you. Claws/Elec is darn pretty looking though.

Um. Hi?
You forgot FA and EA.
Fiery Aura has a lot of good "recovery" powers that mitigate its low resistance (good self heal and endurance recovery). Energy Aura is a typed defense set and has a lot of flexibility if you don't mind taking hits.
to be brutally (hehe, I made a funny) honest, if you want to steamroll something... make any /WP or /SR brute and Go. Kil Skuls.

Beware what lurks in the Shadows
My first brute was Invul/electric. It was a very tough brute. Did not cost me much to make it even tougher. but I don't play it anymore. It can tank.
My next brute is Shield/electric. Shield is a blast. It started out not as tough as my invul, but now I got it IOed out and it's very tough. But it costs lots of cash. Great for farming.
I am working on a Electric/Claws. Lvl 22 now. So far it feels tough. Great damage and can take hits. I know once I get it leveled, it will be my best single target toon.
I have a WP tank and the Psi resistance is nice. But will power has no heal. And no resistance to enduance drain. Electric does have a Heal and Endurance drain resistances, but leaves you vulnerable to psi. I went with Electirc instead of WP for my brute. I find the heal and endurance factors + Damage aura outweighs the Psi hole.
"It's a scrapper. If he can't handle it, no one can." -BrandX
40% resist to psy damage as well as -rech resistance isn't what i'd call vulnerable. It's one of the best set to have if you plan on fighting psy enemies. (especially considering a lot of psy foes also have energy attacks)

Power surge helps fill it, but late game arachnos find elec armor to be very melty
in general. Arachnoids aren't very nice to them either, but they're easier to avoid
fighting.
Numbers are fun
hurr?
Spin: Dam: 79.04 Cast: 2.5 End: 13.150 Rec: 14 FStomp: Dam: 59.23 Cast: 2.1 End: 18.512 Rec: 20 Doublestacked Rage: 160% dam buff Doublestacked Followup: 60% dam buff 95% enhancement for both 180% fury for both Spin: 79.04*(1+.6+.95+1.8) = 343.824 FStomp: 59.23*(1+1.6+.95+1.8) = 316.8805 ..... WOW. And claws also gets eviscerate and shockwave to add to it. |
Claws seems to do more damage and DPS than SS for " brutes " by the numbers, also Spin and Footstomp both have a 10 target max.

Spin's radius is 8 Feet.
Footstomps radius is 15 feet.
So Spin is doing SIGNIFICANTLY less damage than footstomp, because in practical play, its rarely going to get 10 mobs in melee range, even during farming, while with SS, most of the time you get the entire mob in the radius.

to the OP:
In my opinion, if you want hyper fast kill, kill, kill go Claws/WP. On the other hand if you really want to feel brutish and SMASH!! go with Stone/WP. The screen shaking and chunks of stone really give it a powerful feeling and with fitness end really isn't an issue.
First let me note I'm new to this game so I'm just sorta guessing on this stuff.
I would like to roll a brute, I'm looking for a primary/secondary that would give me solo-ability. I'm pretty set on SS as my primary as I've heard it's great dmg and can go well with other secondaries. When it comes to my secondary power I get waffley, first I thought WP then I thought Elec, then Inv but Shield Def looks great too...I would love a build that can handle multiple baddies and deal loads of dmg and just keep on trucking through however something tells me I'm not going to find that soo... if anyone knows any builds like that please let me know lol, but until then I'm looking for something that will give me lots of dmg, and keep me alive for the most part. I want to kill lots of bad guys without alot of down time basically like an energizer bunny steamroller lol is this possible? I know I'm kind of asking for the best of everything but I don't really know this game in terms of what is and isn't possible of course any build will have weaknesses, I realize that but any advice on this idea would a big big help!
It's all opinions I know that but does anyone have an experience with a powerful, fun, action packed build for a newbie?
