COMBINED


Arenas

  • Players entering an Arena event from their base would appear in empty space upon leaving the event. This has been fixed.

Flashback
  • Critters in Flashback missions will once again spawn at the correct level.

Global Chat
  • Using the right-click menu to remove a global friend works again.

Tasks
  • Fixed a bug that was causing many hostage mission maps to crash, making it impossible to enter those maps and complete those missions.

Would it at all be possible for this patch to screw up Event Jack's spawn rate? I understand his rate of spawn is very low, this is my 3rd hallowen event to participate in. As of this minute, my team and I have killed Eochai for the 50th time in 5 hours and 30 minutes ( Give or take 30 minutes ) without 1 single Jack spawn, in Talos Island.

So this is my question, was this an intended out come for this event? Using the past events as a reference, it only took 9 Eochai kills at max . That was out of 6 alts, and one of them killed Jack twice. This years event started with about the same for me so far. Join a GM team, grind Eochai a bit, then blam Jack spawns. 5 hours is hardly "a bit" in my book.

Sorry Metalhead, but it has never been MAXIMUM of 9 Eochais before Jack would spawn. It has always been a 10% chance he would spawn, not 1 in 10. That was a question that many many people asked during TESTING of the event, whether it was changed or remained the same, and never got answered. Quite disappointing.

As I stated in my post above, Ive been in 3 halloween events. Never has it taken 50 Eochai kills. And I believe its 10% in zones level 20+. At any rate, after 6 and a half hours of grinding Eochai, and 104 merits later, we took our 2 teams and went to PI. Got him after 3 Eochai kills. Which is exactly like I remember for the past events.

Whether it was "bad luck" or a coding problem for Talos, I couldnt tell you. Our teams never got one to spawn there. However, there is a couple people that I teamed with during this time that said they were able to get him to spawn, during this event but on another day.

Plenty of times for myself and teams on Champ has it taken over 10 Eochais. That's the thing about percentage chance, 1 person could have great luck, another person could have absolutely crap luck for many many hours on end. Glad you eventually got him, hope you get something nice with all those merits you earned.

FYI 1 in 10 is 10% there the same thing

Unfortunately this is incorrect. 1 out of 10 is a hard number pretty much stating that if you do it 9 times the next time HAS to be the spawn.

10% is a probability rate. Not a hard number. Roll a D100 someday about 50 times and count how many times it landed on 10/20/30/40/50/60/70/80/90/100 out of that 50. sometimes it will be more than 10% of the time, sometimes it won't happen at all.
thats the thing with chance and Hard numbers. Sometimes your luck just sucks.

I think Lucky's point was that, colloquially, they are used interchangably. And literally speaking, 10% = 10 percent = 10 "of each 100", which is a hard number, not a probability rate. However, I think both are commonly used to say "on average, it happens 1 in 10 times" or "it has a 10% chance to happen".

Sorry for the math nerd threadjack (the worst kind!). Regardless, I think it's clear that Metalhead understood it was an independent event each time with an expected value of 1 Jack spawn for every 10 total GM spawns. With 50 kills, he had nearly a 99.5% chance of spawning Jack so he was wondering if he was really that unlucky or if there could be a bug present.

More on topic, I was hoping that the -1 Task Force and team name bugs detailed in the 10/28 patch notes thread would get fixed. I haven't yet gotten to test, but assume from these notes that they have not.

Honestly, I'm glad someone could explain this better than I could.
Math was never my shining moment when I was going to school 13 years ago... That and I look at math nowadays and go "What the Heck is this?"

Personally I'm glad they fixed the arena bug... that was one of the most annoying bugs I've ever seen.
(the first time it happened I just used my mission transporter and got out that way)
