Soft Capping to 3 positions

Can it be done? I am at work and don't have Mid's available to me. If my numbers are coming out right, I can soft cap to Ranged and AOE. I can't get close on Melee.

Has anyone ever gotten to 45% to Ranged, Melee, and AOE on a blaster?

My test case is an Elec/Elec.

If you can do it, please post the build. I would love to try it.

You cannot hit all 3 and still be blasting. With PFF on, sure. Otherwise there just arent enough sets that give +DEF to cap all 3 at once.

ok. I didn't think you could. I will just go with 2 positions and try to roll with the punches. It will be nice to sell those ToD sets I bought and put a little dough back in my pocket. I will swap them out with the more readily available Mako's set.

You could cap smash/lethal + ranged and have high aoe though

This. s/l coves the vast majority of melee range attacks (and more), but leaves you open to a decent number of ranged mezzes that have no s/l component. So ranged def covers most of them.

It might not be quite as good as melee and ranged def in some situations, but s/l does protect against a good number of aoe's too so in other situations it is better. Besides s/l + ranged softcap is a realistic (if difficult) goal to attain, whereas softcap melee and ranged probably isn't on a blaster.

Personally I'd just aim for 32.5%+ on a blaster and use a small def insp to cover me when facing more difficult stuff. That way you can don't have to sacrifice any of the blastery goodness to gain more def.

lol... I feel the same way, I am new to the blaster set but am having a ton of fun with my fire/fire just running some regular IO's. Sure I die but I do a lot of damage, currently he is in the very low 40's and I am going to start to IO him out. I have heard about soft capping a blaster but have no idea where to begin.

Shred or anyone,

Would someone mind posting a build I could view that caps S&L and Ranged? Even if you could just list the power, how many IO's and what type, that would be cool with me. I think you can still squeeze in a very good bit of AoE defense in the build since AoE gets packaged in a lot of set bonuses with other positional defense bonuses.

Also, does anyone know the base defense percentage for the following powers? I have seen it before, but I never really observed it to the point of remembering it.

Combat Jumping
Weave
Maneuvers

I don't mind skimping on some of my traditional blaster functions for the sake of boosting my defense/shields. This character is pretty much a concept and electricity gives me the ability to do lots of different things. The idea I had was an all or nothing blapper with a nice "Oh Sh*t" button. Basically, he just wants to have fun sapping, blapping, and living to tell about it (mostly).

Again, thanks for all of the help. Definitely helping me focus in on what I need to adjust and try out.

you said you were willing to give up some blasting abilites for surviveability so i think this is your best option, capped s/l high ranged and melee and then capped hitpoints, GL & HF

I was messing around with Mids and came up with this Fire MM build that soft capped smashing and lethal, 35.4% range defense and 56.3% recharge bonus. I'm sure it can be improved upon. I made it pretty quickly and didnt go back to dissect it.

I could soft cap range too but I don't believe in totally gimping the build by picking up another travel pool for the Blessings set.
