Is Stone/Shied any good??

I Have a really cool concept in mind for a Stone/shield brute. I even made up a pretty good build on mids.
My question is...is this toon worth rolling?? Is there any synergy?? I am concerned about the endurance useage.
I am also considering an elec/shield brute. Would this be a better option??
What primary goes well with /shields?? I allready have a 50 SS,claws, and DM brute. I'd like to try a new primary with shields. I have a WM/shield brute sitting at level 12 and hes kinda boring to me.
I would appriciate any feed back and suggestions.
Thanx.

I love mine , Mini Tor level 38, he is an AoE machine and agro magnate he builds furry like no other brute I have. I pop in to the enemy using shield charge followed up with tremor, this usually kills all of the minions, leaves the lieutenants near death and disoriented and puts a big dent in boss's on up. Those that survive the initial assault are on you like fly's on (well you know) this leads to massive damage output from your other powers for two reasons...
The first being fury, just like every brute the more you get hit the faster it builds. I rarely ever need to use brawl to build furry.
The second being Against all odds, the more enemies you have close to you (up to ten, which i think is the agro cap anyway) the more damage you do.

Thus in my experience Stone/Shield equals an A** kicking good time; so my answer would be yes.

As I hinted at above Shield Charge and Tremor go well together throw in fault and you can keep most enemies flopping like fish once you get the timing down. Not to mention all of the knock down the other stone attacks provide. If you get into a good rhythm you have all the mitigation you need to solo even given the fact that you loose one of your biggest defenses solo since phalanx fighting wont help much with out team mates near.

Yeah SM/SD is definitely one of the biggest end hogs in the game. I have two end reducers in most of my attacks, and have stamina four slotted with performance shifter's and the Perf Shift endurance proc to compensate.

Don't let that scare you off from trying it though. Due to how fast I build furry in combination with the Damage boost from Against all odds, most of my attacks are slotted with 2x Acc. 2x End Red. 1-2 Dam. and I do plenty of damage.

I have a friend that swears by his, but I cant answer weather I think it is better or not for certain but we seem to have the same survivability and electric seems to have good synergy also.

This is just my two cents but IMHO Stone does once you handle the endurance issue.

I'm running a Stone/Elec Brute right now and just got him to 35 today, giving my power drain. He's like an energizer bunny now. I have energize on auto and combined with hasten it's brutal, especially with the added heal. Most popular brute from what I've seen is the elec melee/stone armor tank, but being the one to always turn his nose up at what's popular, I went totally opposite. Plus, as stated before stone melee is awesome for AoE. Just remember to throw some chance for whatever damage procs into fault as you can.

Thanx for the replys.
I rolled my SM/SD brute a little earlier. I'm gonna start leveling him tonight.

I'm just wondering am I the only /Shield Brute that DOESN'T throw shield charge from range? I ALWAYS run in with the damage/taunt Against all Odds toggled on, let that stack up and fury, then from melee once they're stacked and the mobs are tight throw Shield Charge. This just seemed the best way to get more bang for my buck. Comments?

You do have a valid point... Yes it would build furry faster to run in, taunt powers ablaze. And for the record before I got to Shield Charge I did it your way to great success, but now I just get a charge out of the pop n flop he-he-hea

Fun is what you make it. If you are going for a concept then go for it and have a blast.

Enurance is going to suck a bit but you will do loads of damage and stone melee is always fun.

I started this guy up last night ( a lava damage dealer). Ive heard great things about the one handed hurl and of course the mallet attacks. Anything else to keep an eye out for? I'll mostly be teaming (maybe farm a bit once I have SC @ 35) and soloing certail AE missions for ticket drops. Seems like good synergy, only thing missing would be a heal, which I can get in aid self? Tough/Weave recommended? Obviously slotting w/ this much end usage will be key.

I know Obliteration is usually what I slot in PbAoEs but the end redction sucks. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

If your PBAoE does knockdown (tremor), 5 sciroccos for the AoE def and a force feedback chance of +rech. Fault gets 5 stupefy and the force feedback. Note that this proc does not work properly in the teleport attacks as they summon a pet.

It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba

I'm at work and check Mids or in game... which proc IOs will fit? I seem to recall slotting 2 into Fault on my stone/shied, one from a taunt set, one from a knockback set. Are there any others?

Stun IO sets
Razzle Dazzle - Chance for Immob
Stupefy - Chance for KB
Absolute amazment - Chance for -to hit
KB IO Sets
Explosive Strike - Chance for Smashing Damage
Force Feedback - Chance for + Recharge
Taunt IO Sets
Triumphant Insult - Chance to disorient
Pefect Zinger - Chance for Psionic Damage

FYI - www.paragonwiki.com FTW!!!

Hope this helps. Im prepared to proc the dog **** out of my fault w/ the to damages and the force feedback + rech. YAY!!!!

I failed to mention that it was the % x damage IOs that I was specifically asking for, but the recharge one from Force Feedback does look good as well. Fault is great mitigation as is, but I find that it would be even more helpful if it damaged my enemies as well.

And yeah, Paragonwiki is a great tool. Its just a pain to navigate on my phone while I'm at work

Edit: I went back and looked when I got home, and the FF proc is in my bar, waiting for me to hit the next odd level, so I can slot it in

I hear ya. Luckily my company hasnt blocked the wiki yet. Ya very true, would have been nice to be able to slot more than just 2 damage procs, but my build is going to be so tight that I wouldnt have enough slots to put more than 5 on there. 3 procs and probably franken slot some Acc/rech/end reduc in it.

I just finished up IOing 2 lvl 50 toons. Now i am able to give my lvl 11 sm/shield brute my full attention. I have a build made up on mids but its kinda pricey. I am at work right now so i can't post my build. I have the infamy to spend but if possible i'd like to go the cheapest way possible to soft cap my defenses. With my current build i still am not soft capped. Could someone please post a build or 2 or give some tips. I could really use some feedback.
Thanx

This is my toon's current build (minus the purples which im working on getting). Its a very expensive build but you dont need the purples or the Lotg recharges but you would need another attack probably. Its a very fun combo and really smashy: BU + fully fury + fully saturated AAO + seismic smash does alot of damage (make sure you put a lot of end reduction in it). Its capped to all but AoE and thats because i seem to do fine without it.

I like my Elec/Shield Teleboomer. The big trick I've found is to get into melee before setting off Shield Bash or Lightning Rod, so that you can take full advantage of Against All Odds with those high power AoEs. Thunder Strike and Chain Induction are pretty good follow-up attacks. I grabbed Ball Lightning for more AoE madness. It's a bit of an endurance hog, though not as bad as a SS/SD or SM/SD would be. I don't have a whole lot of IO bonuses in him, but I make up for it by having a Static 6-man /Shield Brute team. We use Grant Cover and Phalanx fighting along with rolling Lightning Rod/Shield Bash tactics to wreck missions.

From what I've seen, Axe/Shield is good for Brutes who want to have a weapon and shield. War Mace takes up enough endurance to make using it with Shield troublesome.

Fire/Shield is popular with Scrappers on Virtue. They use Shield Bash with Fire AoEs like Cremate and Fire Sword Circle.

Dark Melee/Shield Brutes plug the holes in either set. Shield Bash gives Dark Melee some solid AoE damage, and Dark Melee gives a heal as well as an endurance recovery power. Also, Soul Drain is another damage boost with an extended duration.

Too many alts to list.
