BUG: /unloadgfx does NOTHING!

I suspect that memory leak crashes are dependent on configuration of graphics cards and options within CoX (and graphics drivers).

The current version of CoX will crash after grabbing 1.5 GB and then zoning or loading a sound, although I've gotten up to 1.7 GB before crashing.

Reloadgfx doesn't fix things, although it may purge *some* memory, usually for me it will creep back up over 1.5GB and crash. With the latest patches hitting reloadgfx may reduce memory but it may still crash upon zoning even without going past 1.5GB.

Lately, it seems that I've crashed at 1.45GB without even using reloadgfx, and the times between crashes are much shorter (~1-2 hours of play vs 2-3)

I know 2 other people who I regularly play with that crash. We have a running tally/joke of how high our CoX partition gets before we crash out. All of us are running nVidia cards, although none of us have sat down to attempt to find out what else we've got in common. Another person we play with has rock solid stability, although I haven't asked him what configuration he has (yet).

All of us play TFs regularly, both sides, usually LGTF, ITF, most of the hero ones. Of course dropping off things at the auction house is part of post TF activities, but no one seems to have noted any correlation with zones, powers etc, since we tend to go all over the place.

I submitted a bug report on this months ago.
For me, I can 100% guarantee that the game client will crash as my memory climbs steadily til it hits critical mass at 99% memory usage then folds like a house of cards.
All I have to do is edit my base for a while. It takes about an hour of base editing to crash me.

The memory leak is still present if I avoid the base and simply play the game. I.E. run missions and/or TFs. But the rate of the leak is minimal then for me, I generally need to log off long before the game crashes if I do this.

I run Win XP, 2 gigs of ram, I watch my memory in real time using my G-15 keyboard with the CPU/Ram applet running.

Another odd thing I notice, which I have no idea if it's related to the leak or not is when I close down the game, if the game hasn't been running for very long (under an hour) it gets to desktop fairly fast. But if the game has been running for a few hours it takes the game a really long time to close down and get to desktop.

I've been having horrid memory leak problems with CoH/V for a while now and I thought it was my slow, crappy computer. I've tried everything, even shutting down Windows Explorer (I'm using XP) while playing and that seems to help a little bit, but not enough.

The things that seem to cause it are loading screens and the market. I'm absolutely assured I'll get mapserved and the game will disconnect if I go to the market after a few hours of playing.

I can play the game for a few hours and then it will start getting sluggish. It gets almost unplayable after about six hours or so (not that I often play for that long. :P ) I think it's caused by loading screens, though I haven't tried staying in a single zone for a day to try that theory out.

this thread may explain the radom crashs i get when zoneing .when playing dungeon runners last year i used a program to free up ram cant atm find it as i have resinatalled sicne then . but maybe a program that frees ram up in real time might help?

I will also crash if I play for about 2 hours, at a random time, during missions. Relogging to change characters more than once or twice will also do it. The memory usage gets very high until the game just crashes.

It's so consistent and reliable that I've gotten to the point where I just restart the program before doing most of these activities. Doing this will always prevent a crash, since the game will run fine for that first 45-60 minutes.

I've yet to find a remedy outside of just closing and reopening the program. I tried updating drivers, getting a cooling pad, and quite a few other things suggested by friends and forumites. I now just bite the bullet and restart every hour or so.

Late to the party but this is me also, and has been for at least a year (and probably more.) I always thought it was just the game advanced past my pc but unloadgfx no longer helps me either which is very tiring.

Until something's figured out, you might try this, which seemed to work for me: If you've interfaced with the market, after you're done, close all the way out of the game and restart.

The times I've noticed my memory increase not dropping after I zoned was after hitting WW's. After that, additional memory usage was not recovered. It's inconvenient, sure, but if it keeps you from DCing it might be worth it.

Forgot to mention something useful in my earlier post, back before I had my current computer I ran CoH on a Pentium 1.7 with only 512 ram and a decent if outdated Geforce 6600 AGP graphics card.

My point is, while you might think the game wouldn't run at all, let alone acceptably, I did manage to make it run well enough, and how I did it was to use a freeware program called: "FreeRAM XP Pro". I havent needed to use that in about 2 years, and I no longer even have it installed. But, it might help some of you who are having the more severe memory issues, at least for the time being until the Devs can sort this leak out.

EDIT: Found the link to it, it's a newer version than the one I used to use.

Before I16, I used to be able to run two instances of the game at a Hami raid, zone to Talos via Ouroboros at the end, and go to the market with both instances.

Since I16, if I try this, I send my system into spasms as soon as I try to enter Talos, because I have two instances of the game at close to 1.5GB of both resident and virtual memory (so I'm trying to use 6GB of memory just for 2xCoH for on a 2.5 GB WinXP 32-bit system). I now must exit one game before I try this if I don't want to have to forcibly reboot my system.

Something is now consuming far, far more memory than it used to.

Oh, there's one thing that needs to be mentioned as far as crashing goes. There's one thing that will consistently crash me. Besides the aforementioned Black Market, training, SG window, and just playing a long time.

Deathsurge will always crash me. Fighting Deathsurge always makes my game flatline. No other GM does it, and he can do it even if I JUST logged into the game. I can log in, join a team, start fighting Deathsurge, and crash. It was hell trying to get the badge for beating him.

Well I have noticed something odd since i16 came live, the first mission of the RSF always appears really laggy for me and others. Just tossing this into the convo to ask if others have expirenced the samething.

The rest of the RSF is fine, but the first mission has been consistantly laggy for me no matter which character I play or which toon I play it with. However the rest of the game plays okay for me.

I try /unloadgfx but it doesn't help.

I've been getting this occasionally also where I get that yellow triangle message from Windows saying "low virtual memory". The only correlation I've noticed so far is that it happens when I have itunes running downloading lots of podcasts. But in any instance the virtual memory error doesn't occur for a until a couple hours of game play.

I have 6 gigs of memory, Core 2 Duo 6700, evga 8700gtx. I might have Windows Virtual Memory set to No Paging File, I'll have to check.
