Mission won't drop.

This map (and it's mostly the same map every time at these levels) will spawn relatively few Lost fighting the CoT (at higher levels these become Rikti, so that's why I am assuming that the OP is in the teens or 20s), and then some regular CoT spawns. It's a twisty map, not very long, but no portal rooms and mostly single level (i.e., no pyramids)
My defender was level 16 at the time, and there actually were portal rooms. I managed to defeat one by using the hit and run tactic, but then I saw the others and stopped after how hard the first one was.

But the portals aren't the reason it was hard. The reason it was hard was because of the ghosts in every spawn debuffing my accuracy to hell. I'm playing a Dark/Elec defender, and dark is a very end-heavy primary. (at least in my experience) So the combination of heavy endurance use + missing almost every attack = No endurance and no way to defend myself. (Ironic how a class called "defender" isn't very good at "defending" itself. =P)

So, I gave up on the mission, and started a team. Kept going on with the team for two hours, instantly replacing any people who left. (So many people asking for teams. Gotta love Double XP) Now I'm level 20. I figure I can just sweep through the mission later this afternoon. Next time I'm going to be careful about when I start Montague's arc.

(Please don't call me out on my comment about defenders not being good at defending themselves. It was a joke, and is not meant to be taken seriously.)

You're playing a Dark, and you had trouble? A Dark??

No. Sorry. Just no.

I'm trying to remember now - is that because there were issues with people auto-completing some of the missions and not getting the special salvage needed to craft the Lost Curing Wand?

What, am I supposed to know everything about a set the very first time playing it?

My first Dark Miasma character, and my first defender. The only trouble I'm having is running out of endurance after every single mob. But now I've got stamina, so things should start to improve a bit.

However, you usually cannot drop the *LAST* mission of any story arc. Although there are a few exceptions (though at the moment I can't remember names, I dropped the last mission in an arc the other day on my Controller).

I know Buck Salinger's final mission is droppable. In fact, I usually go ahead and drop that one every time, just because it is so tedious. The final mission in Vendetti's arc is also droppable (Defeat the Council Vampyr).

In fact, I am quite certain that as long as the final mission does not award a badge or a temp power (upon completion), and is not timed, then it can be dropped.

ahh... the frustration of having a toon that doesnt feel heroic. about a third of the available toons are that way. hit and run not heroic at all, the whole concept of attacking something then running to draw it away seem very cowardly and in no way feels heroic.being beat up by minions makes you feel like there is no way to beat the boss.while there are toons that can put out hugh amounts of damage, and with defenses that can stop lots of foes from landing there strikes, defenders are the lowly sidekicks of this games heros. sorry to step on so many toes but a defender in no way feels as heroic as a blaster or tank. and the epic heroes are only semi heros too.

Stamina will help. When you get the 12-month Vet Reward badge, consider taking the Ghost Slaying Axe on any Dark-based characters you have and Sands of Mu on the others. The Ghost Slaying Axe is pretty situational, doing bonus damage to any "true" undead, but not much damage to anything else. It does 130% bonus damage against Circle of Thorn spirits, which is good news for any dark player. It can't be slotted for accuracy and the recharge isn't fast, but I've found that if I can hit a ghost before it drops a debuff on me, the CoT fights can go much more quickly than without the Axe.

Speak for yourself. My Dark Defender doesn't run, doesn't run missions on "easy," and is no lowly sidekick. Sure, I can't do as much damage on my Defender as I can on my Blaster or Scrapper, but there's more to being Heroic than doing damage.

A Defender is what you make it. If you make a team-based Empath and don't slot your blasts, don't cry about not being a Blaster. Some are more difficult to solo than others, but much of that depends on the character level, powers chosen, and slotting. You can choose create more of a support build or more of an offensive build. My Empath is a team defense build and slow to solo, my Dark is an offensive build and solos very well. With the dual-build option, you can even be both on one character.

And that Blaster, no matter how hard he tries, will never be able to res 4 teammates at once. Talk about feeling heroic.

If you think a Defender has to be a lowly sidekick, you don't know what you're talking about.

ummm...... slot for end and accuracy until the 20's. this will help with the end issues.

Agreed.

And as for damage, slot Tar Patch for Recharge and fight your foes always on the Patch. The -Resistance of the Patch increases the damage you do and is a distraction for some of the foes as they very slowly try to run out of it.

Basically it's 100% bonus damage, but the bonus is unresistable, is how it works.

Apparently incompetent idiots have embraced the reputation system as a way of flaming others without publicly displaying their lack of ability.

But then i'm just stating the obvious.
