I'm sat in work waiting for a client, and, fun as the forums are, I'd love to be able to log in and roll up a toon.

Its a pipe dream of course

Sure? Why not?

There's been some indications that not making a stand alone costume creator may have been part of the settlement with Marvel.

Then don't market it as a 'standalone costume creator'. Market as a 'Paragon Studios Wardrobe Explorer'; something that syncs up with any updates, depending on issues, and downloads any/all new costume bits right onto the app.

Or the actual character creator, you just don't have the ability to actually play the new character untily ou get back to your computer.

As a iPhone user, I would buy that in an instant. I don't care if they want to charge $20 for it. There has been soooo many times where I'm just sitting there (and i don't currently have access to a computer) thinking "ohhh I really wish I could work on that new toon's stume... =\ too bad there isn't an app."

Although I highly doubt this would ever make it...I mean it would be a pretty big app and it would be hard to find an interface that works with it. But I agree, WoW has an app (I think?) and if CoH made one (maybe not even to do with the costume creator, perhaps some sort of informational thing) it would help make money and even get the game out there. I bet it would bring in quite a few people. Just my 2 cents.

Thing is, how do they know it would get a lot of use? Do a majority of City of Heroes players have iphones? I know I don't.

So I guess it might be good advertisement for the game, but if the app costs money, then I don't think a lot of people would be interested in buying something related to a game they know little about. But again, even I, a player of the game, wouldn't buy a costume creator app for my iphone (if I had one), I mean if you're that busy of a person that you need a cell phone (don't have one of those either) then I wouldn't expect you to have time for something like this app. Also not to big on spending money on things that are just temporary until I can get to the real thing.

But if it's free and they spend time, money and resources creating this app for players who want to design a costume while they're stuck somewhere with their iphone, then I don't believe it to be a good cause.

We just finally got iphones last month, and I'd kill for a CoH app. Even just one that let you check on WWs would be great to have. I think there's a WoW market house app, right?

At least you can view and post on the forums from the iphone. That's at least something.

Even if it’s a standalone creator that doesn’t synch to the game it could still be successful.

And I would recommend going the add-on pack route.

Example of store listing:

Apps for the Iphone & Ipod Touch 2nd gen.

Character Creator Lite - Free
(Free App with limited features/costumes to get people hooked on using the app)

Character Creator Full Version - $9.99

The Add-on packs listed below require purchase of CC Full Version:

CC Add-on pack: Super Booster I: Cyborg $1.99

CC Add-on pack: Super Booster II: Magic $1.99

CC Add-on pack: Super Booster III: Superscience $1.99

CC Add-on pack: Super Booster IV: Martial Arts $1.99

CC Add-on pack: Wedding Pack $1.99

CC Add-on pack: App Store Combo Pack #1 $1.99
(** contains Justice/Sinister & Valkyrie costume pieces)

Edit: The bracket () description on the CC Lite above wouldn’t appear in the store listing (obviously).

WHY? Why charge extra for booster packs when all you're doing is creating costumes? If anything, it be more publicity to buy the actual pack in game if they give all the costume parts with the standard pack. You make a really cool costume that uses a ninja helmet or the magic collar cape and try to load the costume into the game but find you need the pack, how many do you think would finally give in and just buy the packs for their account?

Not to mention, I already bought most of those packs. I'd be a bit annoyed if I had to basically buy them again.

PS: the free 'lite' version can hold back the power customization, cape, aura, unlockable weapons/costume parts and booster pack parts as well as any DLable stuff released later and the ability to save costume/characters for use by the actual game. That's still sufficient content that would warrant actually purchasing this app if it were ever made.

I was looking at it from the standpoint of putting more money in NCsoft/Paragon Studios’ pockets, but your idea is better & more customer friendly.

I hope they implement it.

I would much rather see an app like this designed for multiple phones, not just one. After all, not everybody is ok with buying a phone created by Apple.

Offhand, the only comparable platform to the iPhone I can think of is the MyTouch. The iPhone runs on the iPhone OS (which is essentially mini-OSX), while the MyTouch runs on Android 1.6 (an extremely unconventional Linux distro)

I would pay for any version of a COH app!! I was about to post something related to this and thought I should try that search button for once,
Back on point, I think it would be pretty cool if there were a Mids for The iPhone! I would think that it would be doable for some of the more tech savy people to make a bare bones version, sure I am just dreamin, but it is 2a.m. So I can get away with it

Gespin LVL 44 Spine/Regen Scrapper

Considering they still haven't gotten around to releasing a Mids' for Mac (though I believe they're actually working on a cross-OS release rather than a single Mac version), I doubt it would be that easy to simply create a version for the iPhone (which would be pretty much the same thing as making a Mac version) even if it were pared down (which Mids' already is to a significant extent).

"They" being me, and "working on" being "from the ground up"

I'm thinking of developing a City of Heroes build designer (sorta like a stripped iphone/ipad version of Mids) and a costume creator could be a great add on.

Im looking to see how much interest there is in this before i actualy start developing and id love to see some idea's for features on the forumpost i made about it on:
