Post the unbelievable builds that you run across. Let's see what other people are doing to 'optimize' their builds!

This guy has made terrific use of his pool powers!

I never took a screenshot but I still remember running across someone who had taken the pool powers from almost every pool and only had 2 of their primary and secondary powers.... Level 47... and was standing in the middle of Peregrine Island LFT.

One that is still salvageable... but I was still a bit in awww that people want to Sprint to their missions at that level.

Well, nowadays people can rely on their Safeguard/Mayhem travel powers. I have a lvl 18 WP Tank in the same position as that guy. So much neat stuff unlocks too fast and early to get a danged travel power!

2 years ago I saw someone with every travel power. Apparently the whole team sent her a tell asking her why just because we were all a little shocked and amused. Finally she blurts out in Teamchat, “Have any of you heard of the Shadow Shard?! I have Superspeed for my regular travel and the rest is for there, JEEZ!” and quits.

The rest of the play session was haunted with all of us trying to figure out why you would need every travel power for Shadow Shard.

There were two threads I read when I was planning my WP/SS Tank where they didn't take a travel power until 49. This wasn't the original poster looking for advice, these were the people giving advice.

I still copied their data to my spreadsheet. They still took the ASAP powers at the right time.

You two are missing the point of this thread, but whatever, to each their own.

OK, I'm new here [even though I signed up three years go, but I haven't been here.]

What am I missing?

not much, Postagulous. the purpose of this particular thread is to make fun of character builds that you come across in the game. stuff like a stone tank with fly as a travel power. the humor lies in the fact that stone tanks cant use any travel power except teleport when in granite form (which for most people is the sole reason to make a stone tank). or to make fun of someone who did not take their travel power at lvl 14 (because the higher level missions have you running all over the place and sprinting just wont cut it). it's kind of a mean thing to do, but since i'm not a noob it's freaking hysterical.

i know, i'm mean

I look forward to 14 as soon as I get out of Outbreak if not before. The builds I was mentioning, rather than saying they were good, I was just saying that some people are, I guess, hoping someone has Recall Friend or something. I know those with RF love to use it. I'll be 10 feet from them and they'll try to use it.

Didn't know about the granite thing. Only tanks I've tried are a Inv/WM, which I have kind of abandoned, and a WP/SS which I really dig.

I don't consider the thread mean unless why it's funny isn't explained to a noob here trying to learn. I'll revisit this thread so I can learn.

But my only travel power mistake has been taking Super Speed on one of my blasters. Not that SS is bad for everyone, but I suck at it. Flying may be mocked because it's mindless travel, but that's me. Sometimes easy is good.

One of my associates that I got playing the game has a level 22 something tank... and still hasn't taken a travel powers. He explains his choice because he's "patient" and has no problems with sprinting around the game.

Anyways, many of the builds that I see as what the heck... well. Other's don't. I've been called lots of things... from fascist.. to stupid... to you're a sheep my friend... when asking players what's up with their builds. I think the sheep one bugs me the most. I'm a cat... not a sheep.

I mean, maybe it's just me... but a kin defender? Not taking increased density? Storm's not taking O2 boost? Kinetic Controllers trying to build to fight in melee like a scrapper? Blaster's trying to build to fight in melee like a scrapper?

Pardon my half-formed rants as I lose focus in a fit of rage... If I had to single out the worst build that I've personally seen... it was on a ... we were in South Skyway and not for Babbage... so it had to have been a Sis Psyche. Invuln tank had taken his first defense... three attacks. And then nothing but pool powers. His reasoning? I want to be a well balanced tank!

The second worst build(s) I've seen was a petless mastermind with Force Field. Their reasoning was Bubbly's not available on corruptors, so I made a mastermind instead... I saw a couple more of those when Poison hit the Mastermind sets.

That being said, I have made my own set of catastrophic build errors... like skipping Plasma Shield on a Fire Tank... and taking fly on said fire tank. On an SR stalker I skipped over practiced brawler and went for Acrocatics. I took Blazing Aura on a blaster with Fire Manip. Yeah. What was I thinking. WAS I thinking?

1)02 Boost is one of the most annoying powers I ever had to take on a stormy, teams instantly think you're the empath of the team. Want a troller that can heal get an empath or a kin
2)Some people again hate the though of having to ID everyone in the team, SB'ng them is enough
3)For the blasters and trollers trying to be like scrappers, its called thinking outside the box hun, you should try it.

Then you mis-understand O2 boost just as much as the players I've had to explain the purpose to before. O2 Boost is a buff.. not a heal. It protects against Stun and End-drain and has tremendous value when facing anything that drains endurance... from the Clockworks in Atlas Park, to the Freakshow with Clamor, to the Witches with Mary, to the Malta in PI.

If the team picks a storm up and is expecting the stormy to act as a healer, the team mis-understands the purpose and point of O2 boost just as much as the player.

Who said anything about everybody on the team? I don't see very many empaths laying Clear Mind on every single player they come across. I don't see therm-rads laying Thaw on everybody they come across. I don't see forcefields or sonic's trying to keep their big anti-mez bubbles over everybody in the team.

Most of these players figure out when, and who, to put their anti-mezzes on. For some reason, this simple teaming ability is lost on a fast majority of players that take kinetics.

No deary. It's called being stupidand ticking off other players who then laugh about the idiot in question in private channels. Maybe you should try understanding the archtypes instead.

I'm not even going to continue with this cas I can see this turning into another one of those lame arguments. Yes you are correct. I am wrong.

My earth/storm troller did not take O2 boost. He is a debuffing/DoT attacker, not a buffer. Why? Because that's the way I like to play him.

My storm does not have O2 Boost because I'm selfish with some of my controllers. Now, if I was a storm defender, I would probably get it... but I've realized over time with the people that I team with, they can look out for themselves.

I guess my Ill/Rad is stupid for being able to solo a Positron TF or even to solo a Paladin. Hmm... guess it's stupid to be able to have a team of Defenders who can finish an STF without a tank or scrapper... guess it's stupid to be able to tank an AV and oh look... you are a blaster, or omg... a controller.

The best thing about this game is... you can play whatever the heck you want, however the heck you want. You can also ignore whoever you want and not team with them.

To each their own. Ya know.

Yes. Why on earth would my Fire/Rad/Stone controller want to be in melee range using Fissure, Seismic Smash and Air Superiority? Clearly that'd be a stupid way to play him...

I was out with a level 8 tank (well he was level 7 when we started) a few months ago in the hollows. It was the most hilarious experience I have ever had with a tank before. He would charge into combat and just as fast run back out, I took a look at his build:

Fire/Energy Tank:
1: Blazing Aura
1: Barrage
2: Energy Punch
4: Bone Smasher
6: Hover
8: Hurdle

Before combat he would things like "On my mark" and "Charge!" He would run into combat, take a few hits and run away. I was almost crying I was laughing so much. I would use two attacks and then see the tank heading for the hills with a crowd following him. He was only level 7 when I saw him, so after a mission he got lvl8. I said "I hate to pry, but I think you should think about picking up "Fire Shield", It should really help out." He went and took his level and picked ... Hurdle.

I figured he was going for a debt badge.

I was also out with a lvl40+ who had all the powers from the Speed pool ... except Hasten?!?!

I played with this idiot energy/kin corruptor. He had repel and whirlwind and he's just an all around putz. Who in their right mind takes whirlwind and repel?

I'm pretty sure he did it on purpose too!

Actually I know he did, I'm the idiot energy/kin.

Wait, flight is still stigmatized in this game?

Checked my thesaurus for tags for this thread. Things like disdainful, scornful, patronizing came up.

I would suggest that we teach those who make what some consider laughable decisions. Unless you consider derision part of your entertaiment.

As a side note, one of the best and most knowledgeable players I've teamed w/ made a petless MM once. Didn't work out so well, but it was his choice. Some of you would freak out using CO's more open ended system.

I guess it bugs me when some of us mock other players like this. That attitude has been around since the beginning. Oh, you didn't take mud pots? Bad stoner, no team for you! Sheesh! We need to lay off.

Mud pots? Hmmm...that's nothing! I have a stoner w/o granite! Granite is sooo fugly. Damnit, BAB, I want rose colored granite!
