OK, so let's try to make this a better thread. If you post a screenie, make sure you blank out the names. Along with what you find humorous, explain why, so as to aid others in a possible better power selection.
I think we can have fun with this and make it edjumacational too!
I think you hit it on head Cappy. When I first started playing I made a MA/regen scrapper. I took a lot of attacks and skipped Dull Pain. I honestly had no idea what the power did and the attacks just sounded to cool. It wasn't until later that I learned by taking more in my secondary pool first that I would have a better chance of surviving.

A tank... with phase shift...
For all budding tanks... do not JUMP into a group with Phase Shift on, it's useless. I don't understand the concept of this build. Better yet, why take Concealment at all... you're just putting your team in jeopardy. This was not even funny, it was pathetic to see. When I asked why they phased, no answer.. and they left the team after the mission. Go figure.

I think having invisibility on a tank is funny. He should have taken Superspeed too, then no one would see him. After all, isn't that the point of a tank? To not take damage?
Hmmm, let's see. Batman, Green Arrow and Superman go on a mission. The bad guys show up and the first thing Superman does it .... hide! That's right.
I have to start looking at powers more often.

I will have to start pugging just for this thread. haha
Be nice!
Check their vet badges. As a noob I took whirlwind and flurry on my scrapper. I could knock down baddies with whirlwind and flurry seemed like a good power. On my first invuln I skipped one of the 2 core powers because I didn't really understand how it worked and figured I didn't need it.
If you have no prior experience to base decisions on I could see someone taking concealment to see what it's like. Or a kin taking medicine because it's another heal.
Not everyone starts this game running at full speed or has someone to mentor them.
Regarding ignoring the chat maybe he didn't know english or didn't have the chat window up or just wasn't paying attention. Or he might have heard about this thread and knew responding would only encourage the brow beating.
Ah, another devil's advocate come to champion the fine folks of Liberty. Kudos to you and yes I am being a jerk.
You missed my comments, so for the sake of argument, I will post it, again:

This person could read and write English, because they said at the end "g2g" and I assume that means "got to go" and not "good to go".

I get what you are saying, but you sir, missed the point of this thread. Cappy altered it to give tips and suggestions. I did so. I was on that team and I was not mean to them, I did not begrudge them their build, but I did think it would be nice to post it here for everyone to see and for FUTURE budding Tankers to know, what NOT to do.
I digress.
EDIT: Ok, I did begrudge them for their build, but I did not voice this to them. It's their $15 bucks and they can do whatever they want... but whatever, obviously the point of this thread was missed... again.
@Tax E - RIP CoH 2012
This is an interesting find Tax_E. I do wonder what this person was thinking. Was there a character description or bio at all? Maybe he/she had a concept they were going for.
Sometimes I have a lot of trouble fitting in a travel power at 14, AND health/stamina by 20-22. It seems I am missing some really great powers from my primary/secondary if I try to put in too many power pools. The problem with this is, I also feel my character concept does not really get "fleshed out" until I can take particular power pool powers or certain primary/secondary powers. Usually it seems my concept starts to take shape in the late 20's and early 30's for me.
I have a feeling that some people want to rush their concept, and try to take the power pools as early as possible so their character 'feels' like the character they imagined. maybe that is what this person was going for. Not sure what concept they would have had for a tank that is out of phase?!! Looks original! lol
Ebay has nothing to do with this particular player we're ridiculing. This tank he has less than 3 months under his belt. Ebay was mentioned just for the sake of mentioning it.
I don't think this was a case of needing these powers for any sort of concept. It appears to be more of a case of "oh I wonder what these powers do". The same type of experience I had as a noob. He could be 8 for all we know and was just putzing around wihle his mom was in the kitchen cooking him some lunch.
We don't need to figure it out though. We're just supposed to look at the noob build and say "oh no he did-nt!" then snap a couple of times.
I'd be surprised if one reader came through here and said "oh, now I know not to take phase shift on my tank".
I think any archetype specific advice should be moved into the archetype specific forums and in addition to that, much better advice can be given.
1) Take temp invulnerability. It's one of your bread and butter powers
2) On most toons you'll want Stamina by 20. There are 2 prerequisites to this, sprint or hurdle and health
3) You're going to want to 3 slot stamina
... so on and so forth.
In the end this particular thread doesn't help anyone.
Off topic -- Tax_E, kudos for you for being able to play with that power tray laid out like that. I'd never be able to do it.
Seeing a Tank with Phase Shift doesn't scream "absurd" to me. It's perfectly viable to hop into the middle of a mob with PS on to absorb the alpha then toggle it off and start taunting or let your aura grab aggro. Not that I would ever do it, and not that it's a very efficient way to play, but it's not terribly bad per se, and people have different playstyle preferences.

This thread makes me smile, and I learn things about key powers in power sets that are considered 'must have's' i.e. mudpots.
I think some people pick their powers because they have a concept in mind. Maybe people did not take a power because they did not like the graphics. Although some people like Propel, I will never take it, I can't stand the garbage on the screen.
Im sorry but a tank without smashing lethal is pretty messed up. I made a suggestion as politely as I could, he decided to not take my advice and picked Hurdle. I chuckled, but I also did not stop teaming with him! I think he still needed a bit of help.
