Veteran Reward Suggestion

Baneful

So I was thinking of possible veteran rewards that weren't *game breaking* and I thought of a great idea for the 69 month veteran reward. This reward should either allow you access to all 6 costume codes previously handed out at convention events, or if 6 is a bit optimistic, a choice of 1 out of the 6 costume codes. These costume codes would be the perfect reward for anybody that's been playing for almost 6 years!

Can I get an Amen?

I'd prefer a choice, since I already have several of them from going to comic con. I don't know if it'd be accepted by the masses - because OMG THAT'S TOO LONG TO WAIT!!!!1one

Still. I don't use the ones I've got, myself. I like seeing *my* costume

I still don't get why we need Veteran's Rewards.

Its a marketing tool to enourage player retention between issues.

Eh...

Given the number of costume codes (and you know they'll be able to use more, just look at the halloween event) make it one per every year or some such.

I wouldn't mind an option to unlock an unlockable code be it from convention events, purchaseable packages or ingame actions like the ITF or KHTF.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

It's a marketing tool to make people that have been playing for five years feel more important than those that have been playing for less than five years.

Oh, and it gives them a free power, the bastards.

Yeah, they gave it to us so we would feel more important than you.

I know everytime I login I get a warm thought of how superior I am to everyone who started after me.

That's sarcasm. I thought I better spell that out for you.

And it's paying, not playing. You know the people whose money have kept the game going so there would be one when new people showed up.

Actually, it doesn't make me feel more important. It does, however, come across as a nice little "thank you" every few months.

Yep, my comic book covers let me pwn everyone I see. And don't even start on the non-combat pet. Overpowered! :P

I'm referring to City Traveller.

I fail to see the sarcasm in your feeling superior in light of this statement. "I paid to make sure you'd have a game to come to later, ingrate, I damn well deserve a reward." Was the game really that bad before?

One out of *how* many, and how far in?

I'm sorry, but I have to see this as overstating their effect. They are, in the long term, *not a big deal.* Yes, even City Traveler, especially in light of the fact you can get *free* travel powers at level 5 and 10 by doing Safeguards, another one redside (get rocketpack to Dr. Hammond,) they're available for sale to anyone with 10k, *and* at least blueside, Khelds get travel powers free at level 1 (and 6, if you take nova, and 20 if you take Dwarf.)

No, I don't have it myself. I think it'll be a nice little "thanks" for staying around that long, yes. But that's *it.* (In fact, my *second* account will have to wait even longer than my first.)

I like the idea! So long as doesn't interfere with ME gettin' a moble tailor this year -- the Devs can go for it

Yeah, they didn't bother me until City Traveller. Sure, I'd like to get the costume bits sooner so I could actually use them on characters, and some of the base pieces make for nice concept work, and while I play the game largely for costumes and concepts, it was a small evil.

But now I just don't get why veterans are so much more important than other players, and would like to see the "Veterans Rewards" turned into some system other than "thanks for putting up with Jack" (which is really what the higher rewards boil down to.)

It. Is. A. Thank. You. For. Their. Continued. Support. Of. The. Game.

That is *all.* Not a "You're better" or "You're more important." It's a *thank you.* Yes, it's a carrot as well, as far as marketing is concerned, but the rewardss - yes, even City Traveler - don't have that big of an impact!

Except, of course, for the fact that *everyone* who reaches those levels - including those who came in after Jack left - gets the *exact same awards* at the *exact same amount of elapsed paid time.* So, no, it's not a "thanks for putting up with Jack."

Maybe we can have this conversation in 2013 when there actually will be people with 60-month rewards that never played Jack's CoX.

Great. I look forward to it. Except, of course, that Jack was "hands off" of COH even before the NCSoft buyout. And, of course, that people who subbed afterward are still getting vet rewards awarded every three months.

Of course, there's the flip side, too, of people that "put up with jack," then LEFT and came back afterward... who don't have 60 month rewards, because they weren't here for 60 months. Yet, they STILL had to "put up with Jack" while they were around.

Also, NC bought out the COH IP in 2007, not 2008. But, as mentioned, Jack was "hands off" and on other projects before then. (Such as the now-dead MUO.)

See Reg date. I left before Veteran's Rewards were announced. Came back a couple years later because I wanted to fly around the city again, found out the game was actually awesome now, and here I am.

So, yeah.

Ugh. Thanks for hi-jacking the thread. I was making a suggestion about future rewards. I wasn't asking people if they liked Veteran Rewards or not. This is suggestions and ideas. Not bickering and complaints. The costumes won't affect gaming like some people believe City Traveller does. Anyways, hopefully we can get this topic back on track and discuss whether or not costume codes would be a good idea or not...

Thank you...

As far as Veterans' Rewards go, costume codes would be a good choice.

Ah, thread derailments are fun, aren't they? Anyway, I don't mind the idea for a permatemp version of one of the costume powers. Heck, why not expand the list to ALL the costumes offered during the Halloween event, and not just the ones given out at the cons? Though that would end up being a long list, and there ARE some costumes given out at the cons that aren't available in the event...

Obviously you fail to see it. There was nothing in my post or attitude that you are imagining is there. The problem is entirely in your perceptions. I was trying to explain to you why it works the way it does but you choose to keep the chip firmly planted on your shoulder.

My 48 and 51 month ones weren't very encouraging at all.

I'd love some cossie codes thrown in to them (although in fairness the only cossie code I did get I gave away).

If it makes you feel better, your right. I DO feel like i'm better then you.

Partly because I can get super speed at level 6, and partly because I think i'm better then most people. But thats just me being arrogant, egotistical and snobby.

I have 2 accounts, one at 64 months and one at 58 or something like that. So the amount of money i have put in to this game, its nice to know the dev's appreciate our loyalty. I mean with out us they wouldn't have jobs...

BUT my point any way, because of city traveler I am inclined to make more alts, more frequently, simply because I can grind to level 6 an in hour and zip my way through the city. With the new sidekicking system I can join any of my friends on a team and have an alt in the 20s in less then a couple hours and not be a burden to any one while they wait for me to sprint my way from Atlas to Talos.

True I wouldn't feel less awesome if every body had them, but I think I appreciate them more because I have sprinted my butt around atlas for god knows how many levels.

It may sound silly to you, but if i woke up tomorrow and lost all my Vet powers, I would be one depressed player. That may even be enough to make me quit entirely.

I like the OP's idea.

I'll also admit I feel more important than Eiko, but it has nothing to do with vet rewards. I felt that way long before this game was released. Of course there are people I think are more important than I am.

1. Active duty military personnel (regardless of nationality)
2. Inactive military personnel (see above parenthesis)
3. Veterans (see above parenthesis)
4. Families of troops and veterans (see above parenthesis)
5. Cops, Firemen, Paramedics
6. Cats
7. Me
8. inanimate objects
9. the rest of the human race

My VG keeps insisting I must be a collective of hyperintelligent cats, not a crazy cat lady, so I guess I am more important than you.
