Seriously, I don't even know what brands to seek out.. Levis comes close with a 30W 32L. But close just doesn't work...

I did a little searching...but unfortunately, all of the other brands I found that offered the style you're looking for start out at a 30 as their base for that style. Crossing my fingers that someone knows of something that'll work for you!

I have some friends that have a very difficult time finding a good fit for their jeans and have to resort to a tailor. Don't know if that's an option for you, but thought I'd throw it out there just in case you're unable to find exactly what you're looking for and have a decent tailor nearby.

Boot cut is going to be tough because, after a few years of being the main jeans fashion, jeans are trending more towards straight leg right now; of course, the upside is that you can probably find premium boot-cut jeans for a good price.

Offhand, Diesel and Paper Denim & Cloth have had slim boot-cuts, so maybe search for those?

A.P.C. has a straight-leg model which isn't tapered at all, so it's sort of "boot cuttish"... they are tricky jeans to break in (they have kind of a cult following for the very reason).

Another possibility is a Japanese jean - there are so many varieties it wouldn't surprise me to find a 28 boot cut; a google search with terms "selvage", "Japanese" and "boot cut" should bring up some possibilities... in fact, a quick check show a pair of Nudies in dry selvage denim, boot-cut 28/32:

On the non-jeans front, Bonobos.com has great slim pants - boot cut - which are unfinished, so you can have them altered to length

Have you tried Gap.com? They have a feature that allows you to search by size.

Disclaimer: I don't know if Gap is "cool" or not. I'm not really much of a fashionista... or... what would the male version of that be? I think it's a Kit Fisto.

American Eagle FTW! Some of theirs are "Trendy" and some are just awesome jeans.. Also, american apparel(which is where i shop a lot) is a great place to look, as is Uban Outfitters. Express has some decent denim lines, but it's hit or miss some seasons.. Pacific Sunwear is a good place to find cool jeans and buttonups

Levi's makes 28x32s. In fact, all major jeans companies do. Now whether retailers carry them is another story. I worked for Levi's for a few years, and I wore (past tense) 28x30s or 28x32s during that time.

The Gap Brands also make those sizes, though the cut might be a little more tricky.

The Levi's series number you're after is 517, though I see from a quick Internet search that 29x32 is as skinny as they go. (Check www.levi.com for that; Penny's also sells that size)

I'd check western wear stores and possibly well-stocked used clothing retailers. If you have anything like Buffalo Exchange near you, they tend to keep good quality used jeans on hand. Another option is Ebay. There is one other possible solution that I hesitate to offer because I have received the same "advice" in stores and always got pretty pissed off about it: Kids size 16 or 18 *should* be about right in the waist, though kids' cuts tend to be high waisted.

Good luck; I feel your pain.

On a related note, if anyone knows where to get suede Converse One Stars, preferably in black/black I'd be eternally grateful. Mine are pushing 5 years old and are "starting" to smell a "little."

Drysdales.com and Sheplers.com carry wrangler slim-fit boot cut jeans, they will have 30w32l. Sometimes a size gets backordered for a while, but they will get them eventually. I usually pick up a pair of 32w36 or 38l from them when they have a sale and I've worn a pair out or am about to wear a pair out. They might also have levi's or another brand in the size you are looking for. Make sure and check slim-fit or student cut sizes.

edit, so yeah. poked sheplers just to see what they had, and levi boot cut are on sale and they have that size in stock.

Found a pair of Levi's 517s on the Levi's Japan website that come in a 28W. The bad news is that looking at the currency converter, it looks like that pair Levi's in Japan run you about $140 (not including shipping). It'd very likely be much cheaper to buy the 29x32s that Baalat found and go with a tailor (if you're able to go the tailor route). Or you can try the EBay route if you're comfortable going that route (I found a handful of 517s listed that are 29x32s).

I checked the Wrangler website and found a boot cut slim fit jean in 28x32, but they're not low rise. And they're only available in Navy.

I've seen dozens if not hundreds of pairs of tailor-altered jeans, and they never, ever, ever look right. Granted most of the pairs I've seen had been altered only in length, and you'd be going for width.

As someone who has had to make similar size concessions, I'll say that one extra inch in the waist is virtually unnoticeable. If you wear a belt, the extra inch won't even fold or bunch up beneath it.

One more option might be to visit the nearest Levi's Outlet, if such things still exist, and be very, very, very nice to the stock clerk or someone who knows what lurks in the back room. During my time in that position, I found many, many pairs of discontinued jeans and other items, including a crotch-bottom-rivit pair of 501s that was worth $200-$300 to collectors.

That said, I'm really astonished that they no longer make/sell 28s.

It appears that there are still a decent number of Levi's Outlets out there.

(Also, I don't mean to give the impression that I'm pushing for a tailor. I'm not...just brought it up as an idea 'cause I know a couple folks who have had it done and when I came across the info for the Levi's Japan, just used it as a point of reference for price comparison. I'm not a jean connoisseur and am not savvy on the quality of tailors or how altered jeans look.)

you can go to www.converse.com and do a search for suede, it brings up a bunch of different shoes. You can order directly from their website too.

Oh, I was never saying Levi's doesn't make 28x32... I have some number of pairs of that... Just not in this 507 (skinny, low, boot). the 517 isn't low.

Also, I believe there are 3 Levi's outlets in manhattan.

I'd probably settle for 517 pending on a try-on... (the low cut stuff tends to fit me better 'cause i'm a skinny *******).

... what the hell is "student cut" or "cowboy cut" anyway?

Sorry, but this doesn't make any sense to me. At only 5" tall, I have to have very nearly every pair of pants and all the skirts I buy go through a tailor. If you're willing to pay more, a good tailor will even cut the hem off your jeans and then sew it back on at the proper length so that the hem looks original. Since I take so many things in, I don't bother with that because I think it's a stupid thing to spend additional money on.

A good tailor or sewing classes/equipment are essential for anyone who doesn't fit the cookie cutter sizes stores sell.

I actually found, in a local store, yesterday... old (I have no idea how old) discontinued Levi's 28Wx34L, the dude said they were "student cut" but they didn't have the numbers (501, 517, whatever).. the tags say "saddleman boot jeans" and "duraplus" a bunch of times.

oh... I'm looking at the tag now, it says copyright 1977 on it...
damnit! does that make me trendy or something? is this vintage? I don't want to be trendy!

I don't know. I wore them today, felt like I had a damn ***-cast on... It'll be a while before these things are comfortable.

The thing with tailored jeans that is not necessarily the same for all types of pants is the hem. Since they are sewn and then "aged" (stone washed etc), a pair of jeans that have had their length shortened does not have the worn, slightly discolored, rumply 1/2 or so at the hem. Their leg openings look like those of any other pair of pants. At one time, many of the seconds sold at outlets were long, less commonly purchased lengths that had been cut/sewn to 30 or 32 inch length, and nearly everyone (employees and customers alike) noticed the difference immediately.

Now if you (or someone on your behalf) transplanted the original hem, it may look better; I've never seen a pair of jeans altered in such a way, so I can't really say, but the straight forward "cut, fold, sew" applied to jeans makes the hem look...let's call it "different."

I've never heard of 507s, though I'm surprised to hear that they are slimmer cut than 517s. I thought the 51x designation was for slim-cut jeans. 512s are slim and tapered. Many an employee bet was made with the loser having to wear a pair for an entire shift.

Still, glad you were able to find some.

Also: Thanks for the converse link. I've looked there before (last 2 months or so), and it seems one stars are discontinued. You can get leather ones for something like a million dollars :\ Gonna check it out again right now, though. Well, no one stars, but I can custom make a pair that are similar (no rubber toe cap like one stars had) for $70, which is a bit spendy for converse. However, I can make them black and orange: the greatest color combo ever.
