"This was caused by an uninitialized variable, in this case specifically it was a structure declared locally when awarding a drop table.

About four function calls deeper, something was using a member of that structure to determine if you were fighting something grey (no drop). Uninitialized variables can be anything, but often have tendency to be zero, which would not cause a problem (actually any positive value would not matter).

This bug as been in since Issue 9 and was not caused by specifically by anything related to I16 (Whenever code is changed the tendencies of uninitialized variables can change). I suspect the changes made with I16 caused drop rates to be closely scrutinized. "

While it may or may not affect purples, the fix should affect IO drops in general. Been holding off on a scrapper and a separate controller marathon because, even with the closed beta, something was off not making them worthwhile. *fingers cross for a quick patch after this current one on test*

I'm a little confused by what caused the problem (since it sounds like it may or may not have been affecting drop rates until some change in I16 changed how that variable worked), but it is amazing that the game has gone on for so long with this mistake in there. And I know from dev posts that they've looked at drop rates before, so they should have been at where they were supposed to be then. I would assume, anyway.

Weird, though.

Some drop rates could use some serious help... I don't know why Guassian's rech/end recipes are so rare redside (look at the list from the 25-33 range... a handful of sold since July/August, if I recall right). I don't know what they could do about it, but such things surely are not supposed to be so rare. But that recipe does cost a player more merits than a Luck of the Gambler +recharge, so maybe that working as intended. Bit odd, though.

That particular recipe is pool C and can only be gotten through random rolls or purchasing with merits or on a random boss/eb/av drop (very very very small percent chance). So since not that many people roll (especially at lowish levels) it makes sense that there are not very many around.

I am very much hoping for increased drop rates!

Why is that a pool C? Heck, the Build-up Proc for that set it is more common (from what I remember anyway)... that's just wonky. I've never understood the merit prices that they set for some recipes, either: there's no real rhyme or reason to it that I can see. The Numina's unique makes sense at 240 merits (because it's unique, etc.), but why are regular recipe components that are not unique and offer basic enhancement to a power worth 200+ merits?

I'd been testing drop numbers on my scrapper since I16 went live and knew recipe drops were definitely off. Of course, it didn't help that someone in VB was calling me nuts when I mentioned this.

I might actually be crazy, but not because of this.

I'm glad they finally found the error.

I don't know if this will affect purple drops or not. It does seem odd that they seem to rain down like candy for some people and others never seem to get them (I think I've only had 4 or 5 drop, but I don't necessarily play 50s all that frequently, either). Ultra Rare drops and the cruel nature of random numbers being random make this difficult to test in that regard.
