Leveling Tip for I16
Was told by someone starting with the letter M that I had been on the prowl for 1 hour when I dinged 10 on the claws/ea doing nothing but street hunting.
Be well, people of CoH.
Claws is a simply amazing set for a brute. Here's a little update on my status.
I went to complete the Sapphus mission when I ran into a snag. Level pacing had caused some spawns to con even level to me. These guys ate me for lunch. I slogged my way through, taking on the -1 spawns with some difficulty, needing inspirations for them. The even levels required me to pop several inspirations at once just to survive. On the last spawn before the big room with Sapphus I popped 3 orange, 3 purple and killed a couple of Snakes to get my ding.
With my level adrenaline running I dived into the big room, taking on 3 or 4 full 8 man spawns. I eliminated sapphus and went on a killing spree. Slashing and hacking my foes down like grass, needing to pop greens here and there. The minions died with a single hit on my Fury fueled claws. As I slashed my way well beyond the aggro cap I had realized I was having more fun than I've had in a VERY long time in this game. Using Sands of Mu when I could, multiple enemies fell to my fists.
At the end of the war dozens upon dozens of Snakes lay dead on the floor, and I stood victorious, level 5, surrounded by the bodies of the defeated.
So this mission may have snagged up on my fast leveling, and certainly isn't the fastest method to level a lowbie claws it seems, but MAN that was fun.
I dropped the Eliminate the Infected mission and did the Mop up the Stragglers. No problems on this mission as the spawns were a little smaller, and I had some NPCs to eat damage for me. Cruised through it no problem. Sitting at level 7 now and probably have about an hour and a half of play time.
It's not the Claws. It's the Brawl change. And the Origin Attack change.
With the End cost of one eliminated, and the other reduced, now ANY low level Brute can maintain a rapid pace and a high level of Fury. I took an Axe/WP Brute through the Atlas Park Mayhem mission... I don't think I ever went below 30% Fury, and after hitting the bank... never dropped past 50%.
I had about 70% Fury when I ran into the hero, and took her out in three hits... one of which was my auto-brawl.
These changes are a huge boon to all the melee ATs, but I think the Brutes will gain the most benefit from them.
i16, City of Brutes, coming soon...
-This Space Intentionally Left Blank.-
Didn't they also smooth out the experience gained up until level 24? I honestly can't wait for i16. With the ability to bump up spawn sizes I can practically powerlevel my lowbie toons myself. With my higher levels I may never team again unless it is folks I know. Right now I team to increase my spawn sizes not because of the "social" experience. Half the time I group with people that don't understand team dynamics, and the other half I can be on a full team in complete silence. Can't wait to cut out the middle man.
It never takes me more than an hour to hit level ten. I usually keep inviting people on the run to keep a decent sized team....but now I don't have to!
I skip the tutorial and go straigjht to Mercy with Kalinda as my contact. I immediately head to the Fateweaver, street sweeping the entire way there and back. I'm usually lvl 3 by the time I get back to Kalinda and get my first mish. I auto complete the Infected mission cause it's far away, do the rest on Kalinda's arc, then head to Mongoose and do the bank job.,,,then I head to PO.
This process usually take about an hour and leaves me at lvl 9 or 10. I plan on setting my difficulty to -1 for an 8 man team. With the increase to the XP curve at low levels, claw's awesomeness, and the change to brawl...Mercy will be a blur in the rear view.

If only I could decide on a secondary. I have yet to take a /SR past lvl 24 or 25, I can't really remember. Evasion earlier is always good. Energize in /ELA looks pretty fun too though.
To Severe: Having tried the claws and "new" electric, as well as /stone for the lol of a jumping granite with moonboots, I can tell you that pretty much any of the secondary options would work well with claws.
/WP will be a good bet. Nothing but gravy the whole way to 50.
/Dark, /Fire, /Electric...will be fun.
/Stone, /Sr...might be interesting..
Only secondary I might shy away from is /Energy, but then, that is just me. It is pretty.
Guess I would say, depends on what you want to do with your Claws!
210 50s and still counting!
I'm still planning to go /EA. It's the closest I'll get to playing a stalker. And it is pretty. And claws is sexy. I'll be pretty AND sexy.
Can't beat that.
Be well, people of CoH.
I'm planning on /EA as well since it's one of the only brute secondaries I haven't played past level 22 (the other two are stone and shields).
I'm not sure what secondary I'll go with. /Fire could be fun with an emphasis on kamikaze.... But I can't help but want to play it safe with /WP (at the risk of being a part of, what will most likely be, the new FoTM).
I'm Claws/Wp all the way. I might try something else later on, but I've been waiting to role a claws willpower brute eversince I first played WP in beta.
The servers are up and you can create characters, but you can't log in yet. Keep getting a message about they are doing an internal test and my access is denied.
It should be working now. Also, all the characters I made while they weren't letting people in were invalid (3543 days logged off?).
I tried this and got wardens. 3 of em packed near the entrance.
Gonna try 6 man tomorrow.
Not sure how many people out there have discussed this little nugget yet, but I thought I would share. I rolled a new claws/WP brute on test and did the tutorial. After that I ran around outside the Fort defeating enemies until I was level 4. I took set myself for -1/8x difficulty and walked into Kalinda's first mission. I was able to sail through it with absolutely no troubles. At level 4. The key is killing fast and using those inspirations! The second claws attack is enough to 1 shot a blue minion. Of course, as you level you can bump up your difficulty as you see fit, but far as I can tell, this is gonna be a very fast way to solo level a lowbie, plus it's FUN!
