It's even referred to as "con plague."
I believe that 'con crud' is the older usage for the malady, going back to the early SF conventions.

That doesn't help when you're going to be putting your hands on things other people have handled all day, before you get back to your room; influenza viri are tough to kill, and there are quite a few ways that it can be passed around from physical contact.. There are reports that some mosques in the US are considering amending traditions of Islam to put in abeyance the ritual of attendees shaking each other's hands as a symbol of meeting in peace (the Islamic duty to protect life being considered to excuse failing to perform required religious ritual), synagogues are asking people not to kiss the Torah as it is passed around during services, and Catholic churches are looking at emptying the holy water font and amending the ritual of Communion if H1N1 becomes a pandemic. In comparison, a convention is a veritable breeding ground for opportunistic infections.

We thought we'd get Power Customization when pigs could fly. This week, swine flu.

Horrible pun adapted from a horrible pun on GamePolitics. Sorry...

Uh oh - Boston, you say? ...then Lemur Lad and myself on the other coast really AREN'T any safer (not that I truly thought that since we have already had cases in my general area).

And, while it sucks that the virus was already spread, kudos to the "carrier" and the Penny Arcade foks for their subsequent actions - it was very responsible to step up and let people know that they may have been exposed.

Meantime, sending virtual chicken soup and lots of healing wishes to the NCSoft staffers that are sick, and hoping that everybody around them remains safe and healthy by observing the recommended precautions!

Vectors.

You're never safe. Not here. Not there. Unless your name Sir Richard Branson and you have an isle to which you can steal away.

Anyways, was just checking in to see if we have any updates on the health of our fearless leader. Hope he's not being hit too hard and enjoying working from home or getting a bunch of deserved down time.

H1N1 isn't so bad, as of now. I caught it and didn't even realize I was sick. It was that mild. O_o

...Of course, I could just be stupid. I can't discount that...

  • Slightly less dangerous than the regular flu to healthy adults.
  • Significantly more dangerous than regular flu to infants, children, elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions.
  • Slightly more spreadable than the regular flu.
  • Vaccine not widely ready.
Fixt.

Considering that schools are the number one vector of the spread of colds and flus, points 2 and 3 are particularly worrisome.

While he probably still feels like crap, it's good to see he's up and about.
Two people in the Tampa Bay area where I live died just last week from that cursed bug.
