I'm pretty much in the Invun camp and would suggest that, my main toon is soft capped in everything but psi and Hard capped in S/L with perma rage, he's just as unkillable as my Stone tank but has a much better damage output while still being an aggro magnet. SS is a good pairing with Invun, as some have mention it has good recharge and damage... I really love Foot Stomp. Though I would say to test out a few tanker sets and choose which ever feels right for you.

When it comes to durability, my invul is easy to step up to the plate, but my Stone/SS would easily take over with but one toggle...with just SO's. In an age where everyone is IO crazed, I would go with a Stone (full IO set of preference). WP is for those who don't wish to look like a Golem. I myself don't mind, but if you prefer style over substance ( I use that loosely) go with WP, or even Invul . Keep in mind that with both, tough and weave combo is usually required for capping Dmg res.

Me no likie PVP, ewwwwe, lol

As far as the conversation....

Ask anyone, I am a professional debt earner 8P---

I have a fire/wp Brute @ 50, good debt earner, a dark/dark tank, supurb debt earner, and a stone/mace tank who is nearly impossible to kill. The clud....thump....slow....and the gotta tp into battle or rely on a kin buddie, dependancies are far outwayed by the survivability of a stonie, but I think a better 2nd would be fire, since I have had the fortune to see a supurb stone/fire on my server.

If you want to take and keep the numnutz *baddies* go stonie. If you wanna dish/take/live a fire/spines scrap is fun.... since you like scraps....

Hugs.

I love a good Invuln build, but I'm a little confused by this. Are you saying DEFENSE is soft-capped and S/L RESISTANCE is hard-capped? That would make sense.

I'd like to see that build; I've gotten to the soft-cap on everything but Fire/Cold defense which is high but not soft-capped, but it took most of my powers and slots to do it without crippling my offense.

Awesome, this thread is going pretty well,

Im gona roll a Da/Sm tank which i have a build for courtasy of _Deth_, And i think im also going to go with a Inv/SS tank as it does sound pretty tasty, and all those auto powers look more than satisfying =P

As much as i like fire, i have fire on my main scrapper and never really liked fire on tanks, no matter how very much the same it is, but thats just me and Stone armour, i would definately take that if i could find a way to balance out the damage res and speed issues, not being allowed travel powers with granite sucks tho, but i would probally have to use granite only when im fighting.

awesome thread guys =D

Late to this thread, but if you want to build the absolute toughest tanker without Granite's nuisances, I'd go with Invuln/Dark Melee. With SOs, Granite is superior to all comers. But with IOs, Granite needs to work on recharge and movement speed bonuses, while Inv is freer to go for bonuses that make you tougher, rather than working on avoiding the disadvantages of Granite.

Inv or WP make a better task force farmer: a Granite focused build will be weak on anything below Manticore. Inv and WP can tank the whole game.

This is somewhat easier to soft cap for defense than most other combinations, largely because Dark Melee gives you many opportunities to frankenslot exotic sets like Immobilize and To Hit Debuff.

The question comes down to what do you want to build for. (assuming IO's).

With IO's any tank can be an extremely tough tank.

If you want to build for defenses then Inv, Shield, WP would work pretty well for you

If you want to build for end usage then dark might be what you're looking for

If you want to build for mobility and recharge going with stone would be advisable.

Personal experience says stone is by far the most expensive of the 3 choices above, however once you build it you can literally afk on LR, or virtually anything in the game and sit there an laugh. LotG's and building for recharge in general is astronomically expensive however so unless you have a lot of cash I wouldn't recommend it. The nice part I've found about my stone/fire tank is that due to the extreme recharge I've found that it is actually an exceptional solo-ist outside of granite as well. It solo's better than any other tank (and even some non-tanks) that I currently have just due to not using up any sets for defensive stats.

Building for defense is the cheapest option above but again it probably depends on your wallet, and your playstyle.

Yep that's what I meant lol... To be more accurate the S/L resistance is 89.6% but by moving an IO or two about you can easily get it to 90%. It takes Unstoppable instead of the Resist Elements because simply put I like it, even though it's used once in a blue Moon plus I've never needed the extra resists. I will admit that the build can be tweaked even more to how people would see fit, but TBH there's little need. I've just come off of an MoSTF and not even Lord Recluse could drop me. I love my Stone Tank a lot but my Invuln is so much more fun... And perma Rage just makes it better.

You're the disease that causes me to kick scrappers from my teams (not because they run ahead, but because they think they can solo a mob and die. If they keep doing it and survive I get a grudging dislike for them and eventually stop inviting scrappers to my teams. Or Brutes. Or Tankers. My crab can do it without them).

For a tough Tanker Primary I'd say Invulnerability. The set may be a little boring at forst, but you can't disagree with the numbers. Softcapped Typed defense (if slotted properly) and good resists. Stone Armor is another tough one, but isn't faced paced AT ALL. Its a great survivor, but thats all it does is survive. Willpower is a bit more fast-paced what with Quick Recovery at level 12 (and stamina at 20 if you're crazy like me). Willpower also has the potential for 600%+ Regen. Ice Armor is a Great Fast paced and fun tanker set. They arent as tough in the resistance department, but it isn't hard to get Ice Armors defense to the Softcap. An ice tanks life is based on moving and getting your enemies all bunched around you, and then the Toggle AoE slow and Damage auras (seperate auras of win). Shield has a Very similar playstyle with a great ability to softcap defense as well. Shield however, does not come with a Self-Heal like Ice or Invul.

I'm going to vote WP/SS. Willpower is nearly as tough as Stone without all of the lamesauce that comes with Granite. And SS is just awesome because of Rage (which makes you into a Scranker sorta thing in terms of damage). Plus the two fit nicely together in terms of concept.

Bah, my inv tank is pretty darn tough.

Not as tough as he used to be, but good enough that I'm not worred in most groups. Course I also have over a billion into him.

Well we all know who the toughest tank is in terms of taking damage and that is granite hands down. My granite has def in the high 58's area and 60's. He also has 21 psi def too.

His resistence is capped at 90 on all but psi.

Even if you are to face psi damage I use my other armours for over 50 def and s/l around the cap mark.

You also have end resistence which is around 86% and I managed to get my stone tank moving around the 30 mph mark....that is very fast. Regen is 47 with rooted. Hit points around 2600-2700.

Recharge is at an even. The only thing you cannot avoid is the damage. That is the one area I could not cover.

He is the toughest of them all.

My SS/WP is worth billions and he is softcapped on all def. He regens over the hundred mark with one bad guy. He is super fun to play and you will get rage crashes, but when you are capped it is not as bad. The only problem with this build is that it will cost you. It will cost you alot.

Now if you wanted to have less def to psi and a bit more res then I would go with invul/ss as this can do some crazy damage like wp, but makes you a little tougher. That is the only difference I have seen....also it will not cost you as much for the def on invul.

So for your play style i would go WP or INVUL only if you have the money to pull it off. The stone tank can be tough with just SO's.

Good luck on your choice...
