Rumor has it that Hannah Montana will be taking up the mantle of Dazzler, and be just as effective.

((I hear Donald is finally going to achieve supermacy over Mickey in a major mega-event company-wide crossover called Duck Reign. ))

This is the worst news I've heard all day. Marvel was a company I still had some respect for... after this... I'm caling my cable company and asking them to remove Disney from my accessible channels.

No seriously, I think this is sad...

And here's why.

1) Look at ABC, another Disney "owned" company that doesn't carry the Disney "name." It has all that force-down-your-throat family-friendly crap.
2) I'm all for comics being accessible, but not when there are legit hidden agendas.
3) Disney has been **** for a while now.
4) I don't understand WHY Marvel would do this. I mean, comics have always been a loss leader...so whatever, that's not new...but the movies and the bit? I mean...Marvel Studios made Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and the newer Hulk...all of which made them mad profits and were/are/will be *gasp* GOOD movies.
5) Did I mention Disney has been ****? NEED I INVOKE THIS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1-cK5P4EDE

Funny thing is disney actually respects his creations, you should look up Nausicaa. when it was first brought to the U.S. Market it was recut and changed. Disney a couple of years ago re-released it and did a good job, and didn't cut a thing. and before you ask Buena Vista is Disney.

Nausicaa is and will always be awesome. Saw the Japanese version when I was a kid. Awesome.

Licensing is not the same thing as owning.

Yet at the same time the thread that cropped up in the Comic culture area raised a valid point. Not everything Disney touches rots and falls apart. Disney's partnership companies have produced strong, independant works of their own, love them or loathe them. Pixar, Buena Vista and Touchstone Pictures are good examples of this.

We're just going to have to wait and see....

Well...from the ARTIST perspective...this is potentially a very, very, very bad thing. Disney policy is to "keep all artwork." This is bad for us artsy peeps. Selling of original pages and artwork is half of our ability to make money. The collector's market is up in arms about this already.

And this isn't a partnering.

Now, there is a slim chance that they will "keep management as is." But my experience and observations have been that when this kind of buy out happens, they like to change things even when the company is doing well.

Case and point: Acclaim buying Valiant comics. Even though they said they had the intention of keeping things as is (and the company was THRIVING, succeeding, beat out "the big 2" in multiple awards, was making millions, etc), they came in and changed EVERYTHING. Acclaim went bust and took Valiant with it. NOT that Disney is going to go bust, but I'm simply saying that Marvel publications isn't exactly doing "well." Financially. NO comic publishers have post-90s boom and comic books themselves have been re-regulated as loss-leaders.

I predict bad things. Just sayin'...

You had to say the A word.

*Hisses at mention of Acclaim*

I will admit, the artist side is grim. But I think we're going to have to wait and see. With any luck we may all be panicking for nothing...they may choose to let Marvel exist as a 'partner' of sorts, fairly independant but with some stronger financial backing for a change. They may let things carry on.

Or they might force themselves into it. In all seriousness, I'm trying to figure this out. Marvel, as you said had hit gold in the movie market with Iron Man and Hulk. Hell, even Ghost Rider was something. I'm not too sure I like what this implies for the future. I've noticed that Disney are....well..diabolical when it comes to movies. At times it seems that once an actor signs a contract they sign their soul away too. Tim Allen? Dwayne Johnson? It's like the only thing sustaining their careers is Disney while it brandishes a baseball bat to remind them.

I just hope Disney don't rely on Marvel to be their 'boy marketers' to cram crap down the throat of. Eeesh.

I predict a serious exodus of artists away from Marvel to DC and other companies. On the flipside, this might be a good thing for other companies LOL! Kinda like...Image 2.0 Exodus.

This means I might have to start reading DC?

My god. Sod it. I'll just stick to Hellboy and Gargoyles. There. No subversive media!

I personally am looking foreward to getting Luke Cage and Captain American in my party on Kingdom Hearts.

Hell, I can't wait for Namor to beat King Triton and render Arial an orphan for the throne of Atlantis.

He wasn't there again today.
I wish, I wish, he'd stay away.
