Repeated "Lost Connection to Mapserver"

Commander

I play mostly on Guardian (a West coast server) and have no idea if this happens on other servers.

I have just recently started getting short "Lost Connection to Mapserver" interruptions frequently. They occur for a few seconds at a time every few minutes. I'm not crashing out. As far as I know I haven't changed any equipment or settings lately.

My connection speed (Comcast cable) sometimes degards and drops connection -- but that's not what this porblem is, because I'm used to tabbing out and looking at my connection speed when i have a problem (to see if it is indeed dropping me). In this new problem, the speed is always perfect when I tab over and check right after getting the Lost Connection to Mapserver msg.

Is this happening to others?

Getting same problems on Virtue, also a West Coast server. It's been happening for a couple of hours for me.

I am on virtue and it's 11:59am and I've been having "lost connection to mapserver" like once every one minute. I know it's not my internet connection problem. Glad I am not the only one experiencing this.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

I've been getting it every few minutes on Guardian.

Same on Champion, every 20 seconds.

This has been happening just about every minute or two on Champion. I switched to another character and it's still happening so it's time for a break. Supposedly /sync still works to shorten the mapserves but it doesn't appear in the chat box when you type it.

Yep, for me it's either this on the West Coast servers or the lessor but more frequent red spikes of lost packets on the East coast servers. East coast thing has been going on for a month or so now. So do I want my netgraph to have a few big red chunks or lots of little red spikes?...decisions, decisions.

/sync is doing absolutely nothing right now to help

It seems the pervasive network problems in the west coast co-loc are striking again.

Yes it cleared up for me in Virtue for 40 minutes, but then the red spikes came back with a vengeance.

Mapserving like crazy in Virtue at the moment, lots of people talking about it over broadcast.

Just logged in again (many hours later) and within seconds got mapservered. Guardian. It's sort of playable if I wait through it, but it's damned annoying. It's pretty frequent.

I played for a couple hours on Protector this morning and didn't have any problems.

Yesterday was smooth for Virtue.

I was dropping every second or so for the last two days. All was fine until the happy new Issue, then whamo run stop, run stop, run without me in control....and my favorite, opening a door and going no where, just sitting there.....

I'm taking a Mapserving every 10-30 seconds, regardless of server. I'm located on the West Coast myself.

I find it ridiculous that this game's having server problems. 6+ years online and my first day of play is plagued with disconnects.

And if it was the game, it would be affecting everyone, wouldn't it?
It's not the game.

Not at all.

Do not fall into the trap of calculating the games "innocence" because "everyone isn't suffering it."

Earlier today, in Imperial City on Virtue, the lag was horrendous. Multiple "MapServer" lag spikes (the kind that almost disconnect you), and "rubberbanding" like it was the new style.

That wasn't just the problem of the people logged in at that time. That was "game side."

I suspect there is a piece of hardware on NCSoft's side that is failing... Not dead yet, but working it's way towards dead. And with load balancing rotations, different people have the problems at different times. Like a switch with bad MAC address table memory modules. ((Just as an example.)) That would explain why some people have issues for a while, then they mysteriously disappear, and then others suffer it for a while.

I recommend checking your video drivers. If they are the newest and greatest from your card manufacturer, you might try rolling them back one version. That does fix it for some.
