So close to the eve of Champions..

I was unimpressed with CO back when it was in CB. I saw it a bit as it developed, didn't seem to get better.

So, GR will be the next game I 'buy'... and then after that, I'll either play it or WoW until SW:TOR comes out.

"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."

I saw CO at the beginning of my phase of closed beta, which wasn't the first wave. It was very unoptimized and unplayable for me. Also, I hated the way they did energy recovery and changing powers at the time. Then I tried open beta, because hey, a RL friend was also able to get into the open. It was a different game for me. It was playable.

However, I get some bad graphics problems. Emblems lack the alpha channel and are white background no matter what colors I choose, and I lack some of the more 'fluffy' graphics effects on costumes. I change graphics options and nothing really changes.

I prefer City of Heroes over Champions Online, but I'm going to Champions for a month. If I16 is released during the first month, I'm of course returning to CoH, and would just play Champions sometimes. I'm just burnt out on City of Heroes because it all is the same with my powers. I guess I'm spoiled with color customization in Champions.

Anyone here the gambling sort?

So.. what are the odds they'd skip open beta and gift us i16 on Tuesday, Sept 1?

That still me gives plenty o' time to daydream about GR this fall season.

I would probably squeal. And log onto Skype. And call everyone I know. And squeal. Then run away.

Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

Squeal harder, Flea. *New* news! 16 hit -open- beta. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=188142

Just now saw the news in VU2009.

Slow Ara.

Already saw that. Have it downloading to play with later on while I nap.

But this does mean I16 on Tuesday is a maybe.

Which means you better log on Skype so I can call you and squeal at you.

Y'know. Because.

I hate to bring this up but - um the guy most famous for saying 'nope can't do it' stuff is the guy behind CO. and the cool stuff for I16 is because they found a loophole in the current game engine.

as for me... CO had 1 thing going for it that I wanted, Lifetime sub, which I have, but I am staying here because I love this game. and who knows, maybe on the eve of "rogue" they'll sell 1000 lifetime subs....we can dream.

Hmm.. logged in. No Flea. I see a Kegan though.

Sorry, you're incorrect. In fact, it was Positron that had the disastrous developer interview with the whole "Well, we'd like to do all these things the players like, but it'd take too much effort and money.", with a backlash so huge they had to pull Statesman back on the boards temporarily to do a spinjob to save face. This was before the Cryptic/NCSoft split.

I think the problem was that Pos was, well, just being too honest. It hasn't been as bad lately, but it used to be that everytime he opened his mouth, I just cringed.

I don't really "love" this game anymore, but it's still one of the best MMOs on the market, and has been the only one of late that I find people even attempting to RP in. (which I think Champions will fail at. Horribly.)

Well you gotta admit he had a good point. One thing people tend to forget is that when CoH was with Cryptic it was being developed by an independent developer. Which means that their entire operation pretty much depended on getting a check from a publisher they were working with. Sure NCSoft loved CoH and wanted to keep it going, but being a separate publisher/developer teams it wasn't quite as easy as just giving them all the money they needed.

When the CoH team was bought out by NCSoft that no longer became an issue, there was now far less, for lack of a better word, bureaucracy to deal with between publisher and developer. So any money NCSoft made could be funneled directly into CoH development. This is why the Booster packs were so effective, because the revenue they generated stayed within the same company.

Even then there was a MASSIVE amount of work to be done to get these things into the game. Back when the CoH team was part of a smaller dev studio the amount of investment required for those changes was just too great to be feasible. When they were turned into an inhouse developer then it became a possibility, but it still took then several years and a TON of work to get it all in there.

p.s. Like Mariel I too got a lifetime Sub for CO, and I too will remain with CoH because it's the game I LOVE. CoH was the first MMO I played for more then 6 months, and five years later I have no intention of leaving any time soon.

Caios - Modern. Vampire. Cowgirl, not Catgirl.
Karnage - Monster. Psychopath. Fun at Parties.
FyreShadow - Innocent. Naive. God-like Powerful.
Queen Armitage - Caring. Exiled. and out of Options.

Oh, I agree completely, it was just wrong to try and turn it around into something "the evil statesman said" when it didn't.

I also honestly think we can thank the utter failure of Tabula Rasa and to a lesser extent Auto Assault for the renewed attention CoH has been getting, but that's a whole other story.

long time ago I went to a con over by LAX and "Statesman" was there he was signing COH stuff, got my Hero Click signed, needless it was then he did a QA for COH fans, many of the things that are coming true now where asked then. For many questions he was rather Rude and abrupt in how he answered questions.

so yes Posi had a failed interview, but what stands out for me is How Jack answered the questions, it was the moment I decided to play World of Warcrap.

and it wasn't that he said no it was his rudeness that came along with the No.

From what I gather, Jack never was much of a people person. But I really don't know.

And now, who cares? We've got Issue 16 upcoming!! Woot, no more pink pom poms on my Energy Melee tank.

Unfortunately, never found a proper way to screenshot the character creation screen without laying MSPaint over it. So I captured about 10 seconds of my three favorites on FRAPs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B_WXqd1Oo4

To be honest, after closed beta'ing CO for so many months, i'm unsure about it.

I've pre-ordered and boguht a 6 months subscription.. the lifetime sub is far too much money for me to lay down all at once in the current economy.

I think a huge part of my drifting fro it is that they killed our closed beta community all at once, and they also nuked the beta site.. leaving us with the main forums full of whiney concluson jumping immature posters. I just can't seem to find anyone I know there.. those i'm in contact with just seem to be doing the same as me: staying away from the open community.

Six months seems like a decent enough time for the game to get to grips with itself. After that, I'll have to see. The CO head start begins soon, but to be honest, I have no will to log in to it. Half of it is my attachment to my characters here and the other half is the complete lack of community in CO. They seem to have missed the ball for me, I play the game to roleplay, to interact with the community and immerse myself, but CO just lacks immersion.

I remember at the press conference for STO announcement, some guy asked Jack "Are you as arrogant as everyone says?"

And he simply said "Yes."

Psh, then he has no ambition.

If he'd been REALLY arrogant, he'd have said "Rumours of my arrogance have been greatly understated."

Blaze mastery for scrappers. Now if only Blasters will get a Psi APP, then Lasher will be pleased.
